Chapter 56
EPILOGUE:
Monday 8th April, 2019.
Erica Campbell was elbow deep in paperwork when there was a rap on the doorjamb of her office. The forty year old blonde looked up to find Michael Ezra standing there with a mixture of horror and excitement flitting across his facial features. "What is it Lieutenant?" she inquired while putting down her pen and leaning back into her chair.
"Sorry to disturb you Captain, but your wife is on line one. Apparently she has been leaving messages on your cell for the past ten minutes without a reply and is a little impatient to speak with you."
"Shit," Erica cursed as she reached for the phone sitting on top of her desk. "The battery is dead; Jane will kick my ass for letting it go flat."
"Uhm, I would take the call if I was you. She is pretty pissed and I could hear her mother in the background going on about you being irresponsible."
"Oh for shit's sake, if it's that important Jane could have called my desk phone instead of involving you. Sorry about this Michael."
Chuckling, Ezra shook his head, "Don't apologise, my wife acted the same way last month."
Picking up the telephone receiver, Erica pressed the number one button, "Hello Jane."
Expecting to be yelled at, Erica was stunned to hear sobbing on the other end. Panicking, she inquired, "What is going on honey?"
"I'm at the Boston General," Jane managed to get out before crying harder.
"Fuck, okay I am on my way." Ending the call, Erica picked up her useless cell phone with the intention of charging it while driving to the hospital.
Running out of the office, she waved to Michael, "You are in charge until further notice; Jane is in the hospital."
Grinning at what was to come, he cheered, "Good luck Captain."
"I am going to need it," Erica said in parting before rushing to the elevators.

Jane took the wad of tissues Angela handed her and wiped her eyes, "I am not supposed to be here for another three weeks. Something must be wrong."
"Jane Clementine Rizzoli-Campbell, I won't listen to that kind of talk. Everything is fine, you have already been told that by two doctors. Take a deep breath and relax. Erica will be here soon."
On cue the blonde entered the room and immediately approached Jane's bed, "I'm so sorry for not answering your calls, but my cell battery died. How long have you been here?" She pecked her mother in-law on the left cheek then kissed her wife's lips.
"An hour, but the pain has been hitting me for the past three hours. Little Miss has decided to arrive early and Gail is on the way."
Running a hand lovingly across Jane's brow, Erica smiled, "You panicked then?"
Jane smirked, "I guess I did."
Angela leaned over the bed and kissed her daughter's temple, "Now that Erica is here, I'll go call everyone and let them know what is going on."
"Thanks ma, thanks for getting me here in time."
"Don't mention it Janie and I'll be back soon."
Erica grabbed a nearby chair and placed it beside Jane's bed, "I love you and I gather mom is waiting at home for the kids to arrive home from school?"
"Yes," answered Jane before another contraction kicked in. "Damn, three minutes apart."
Smiling, Erica inched closer and pressed her lips to Jane's. The kiss lasted until she felt Jane relax, "I love you."
"I love you too and the next time you hear me say I want to have another child; remind me of this day."
"Well, it was your idea to even the numbers up to eight and you know I can't say no to you."
Giggling, Jane swatted Erica on the forearm, "Seriously, no more children after today."
"Okay," replied Erica while caressing her wife's belly. "Is there anything I can do for you?"
"No babe."
"Did you call Maura?"
"Yes and she is so upset she isn't here for me."
"I bet she offered to cut short their vacation in Australia and fly home?"
"She did, but I told her not to and to allow her three kids to spend the time with their grandparents."
"She is a good friend honey and I'll send her a picture after our daughter is born."
"Mau will appreciate that."
"I'm surprised Vince isn't here with your mom."
"He is playing golf with Sean and should be here soon."
"Those two certainly are enjoying retirement."
Nodding, Jane reached out and pulled Erica to her lips as another surge of pain coursed through her.
Doctor Huffman waltzed into the birthing suite with a nurse and smiled at the two women, "Here we are again ladies; how are you doing Jane?"
"Contractions are two minutes apart and lasting for one minute. Glad to see you could make it."
"I am too and I'll just take a look to see how dilated you are." Getting into position, Gail announced, "Jane on the next contraction I want you to push, your little girl is already crowning."
"Holy shit!" exclaimed the brunette. "She is going to be quicker than Benjamin was."
Standing, Erica gazed down at her spouse, "She must be in a rush to meet her family and you are pretty good at this labour business."
"Apparently I am and here we go," Jane replied before gripping Erica's hand tighter.
"You're doing really well Jane, I have the shoulders out now," declared Gail two minutes later.
With tears streaming down her face, Erica tenderly wiped the perspiration from Jane's forehead, "Our little angel is nearly here honey, you are so freaking amazing and I love you with all my heart."
"I love you more," panted out Jane while bearing down one more time.
"That's it Jane, you can stop pushing now," announced Doctor Huffman as she lifted the softly crying newborn and handed her off to the nurse. "Dianne will just tidy her up and check her out. Congratulations ladies, you have a beautiful girl."
Trying to sit up straighter, Jane tried to catch a glimpse of the baby, "She's very quiet; is everything okay?"
"She is perfect," replied Dianne while measuring the sleeping infant.
"Wow, our daughter is here," mumbled Erica with a grin.
Reclining, Jane took a deep breath and pushed one more time to expel the placenta, "Well, that is me done."
Giving her wife a coy smile, Erica leaned down and kissed her mouth until the nurse approached with the baby.
Stepping to the side, Erica allowed her to pass the newborn to Jane, "Oh my god, she is gorgeous, a mini version of her mommy."
Looking down at her sleeping child, Jane's tears overflowed, "She is beautiful babe."
Erica placed a loving hand on Jane's left shoulder, "She has your hair."
"Welcome to the crazy, large Rizzoli-Campbell family sweet girl," whispered Jane while brushing fingers through soft black curls.
Gail finished up and stood, "Have your chosen a name yet?"
Jane cast her eyes to her and grinned, "Say hello to Christina Jennifer."
"That's a lovely name and I'll have Dianne take you to your room so you can clean up and greet your visitors. They were starting to line up when I arrived."
Erica moved towards the doctor and embraced her, "Thanks again Gail and I swear, the only time we will see you again will be for check-ups and barbeques with your family."
Jane giggled then added, "I can attest to that statement, our family is definitely complete."
Grinning, the doctor reminded the couple, "I recall you both saying that after I delivered the triplets."
Glancing at her wife, Erica smirked, "No seriously, eight kids are enough and I refuse to buy a mini-van."
Reaching for Erica's hand, Jane noted, "You are such a soccer mom and would make a mini-van look sexy."
"Thank you for the compliment, but I will be happy to use two vehicles when we have to take all the children to matches. Mom said she would disown me if a van appeared in the garage."
Jane tittered briefly before saying, "She only told you that because she loves driving Emma and Jacqueline around in my Camaro. Claire always manages to walk away from the games with at least two date invites. That car is a man magnet and she loves the attention."
Erica's eyes widened, "She never said a word and hasn't gone out with anyone since dad passed away."
"Maybe it's time she accepted," suggested Jane as Dianne neared the bed with a wheelchair. "She deserves to have a little fun away from all our kids."
"Are you trying to pimp out my mother?" asked Erica with feigned horror.
"And that is my cue to leave," joked Gail while heading for the exit. "I'll check in with you in a few hours Jane."
"Thanks Gail," replied Jane while handing Christina to Erica. "Don't drop her."
"As if," quipped the beaming blonde. Placing the newborn on her chest, Erica cooed, "Your mommy is a riot."
"I'm hilarious Christina and your momma is a nerd."
Chuckling, Erica countered, "If you hadn't jut given birth to our wonderful baby girl, I would show you how much of a nerd I can be."
"Hollow threat babe or do I have to remind you of your and Emma's obsession with quantum physics."
"Hush now or I will withdraw my affections."
"Sure you will," challenged Jane while being pushed out of the birthing suite.
With a giggle and peck to her daughter's temple, Erica followed the love of her life and wondered what new adventures lay ahead for them.
-o-
It was a little past nine when the last of the visitors left Jane's room. Christina was sleeping peacefully in the crib to the right of the bed and Jane was having a hard time trying not to yawn. After introducing the latest offspring to family and friends, she was exhausted and ready for some quiet time with her wife.
Erica exited the ensuite wearing sleep shorts and a baggy BPD tee shirt and Jane's tiredness disappeared. With a raised right eyebrow, she commented, "You are so stunning babe."
Shrugging her shoulders, Erica retorted, "Yeah, I'm okay."
"You are more than okay, so hurry up and get into bed. I want to embrace and kiss my extraordinary wife."
Needing no further invitation, Erica rushed to the bed and slipped in under the covers, "I can't believe how easy your labour was."
"I guess I was just lucky," replied Jane while snuggling into Erica's chest. "God, you feel so good."
Watching her wife's right hand sneak across her chest then caress the underside of her left breast, Erica scoffed, "Am I right in assuming you are horny?"
"Incredibly and you smell nice."
"So do you since you had a shower and are you sure you want to have sex?"
Jane answered with a yawn, "My mind is willing, but I think my body is. Can we revisit that question in the morning?"
"We certainly can and I am so proud of you."
"Thanks and I do expect pampering when we go home in the morning."
"I am sure you will be, and Braxton has already got the day planned. He is helping Mildred make a big family breakfast then we are off to watch his soccer match followed by Taylor's, Blake's and Miller's. Then it's off to Ben's game before lunch at Maura's and Ian's."
"Holy crap, is there any time for us to share some alone time?"
"I think he pencilled in thirty minutes for the trip to the airport to pick up Colleen and Patrick in the afternoon."
"That was generous of him and when should I expect our next weekend away?"
Kissing Jane on the earlobe, Erica purred, "We and Christine are already booked into a mystery location for next weekend."
"Mmm, this is one of the numerous reasons why I love you so much; you are always one step ahead and organised."
"My motives are completely selfish honey."
Black eyebrows rose up in question, "Oh really, you better explain yourself."
"It can wait until after you've had some sleep. Christine could be hungry at any moment and you will need to feed her."
"So true."
"Close your eyes and sweet dreams my love."
Jane let out an audible sigh, "You too and wow, we have eight freaking kids."
"It was lucky for us Nelson married another nanny four years ago and they took over the guesthouse."
"It was and Lance is so good with ours and Maura's children."
"Speaking of which; do you think her and Ian will have anymore?"
"When I dropped into the Division last week to check on the Squad, Maura let it slip that Ian has had a vasectomy, so there's your answer."
"You didn't tell me you had been to work. I bet you were seeing how Sergeant Frost was handling running the Squad and coping with Anna's second pregnancy?"
Jane laughed softly, "Keep your money babe and Barry is doing okay."
"I am sure he can't wait for the ever sexy Lieutenant Rizzoli to return to the big chair."
"He didn't mention it, but command is all his for another two months while I bond with Little Miss Cutie over there."
"I may be bias, but she really is a beauty. She will grow to be as gorgeous as her mommy and I will need to buy a shotgun to dissuade all the potential suitors."
Chuckling richly, Jane kissed her wife on the chin, "I don't think you will have to worry about that babe; she will have five older brothers protecting her and looking out for her."
"Very true and aren't you supposed to be going to sleep?"
"I was, but I am enjoying our conversation."
"I am too and I want you to know how grateful I am to you for loving me and bringing such joy into my life."
"Back at you and together we have achieved so much. We are surrounded by wonderful family and friends and are parents to eight ridiculously cute children."
"Don't forget we both have kickass jobs and have been blessed with two loyal dogs that have put up with a lot of shit from the kids these past five years."
"Jo and Bolt certainly have been excellent companions and I think it is fair to say, I am content."
"I am too and with you by my side, we make one hell of a team."
Tears welled in Jane's eyes as she pulled her wife closer, "We sure do and the future looks bright babe. Now kiss me and make love with me."
Erica laughed boisterously before asking, "Bossy much?"
A brilliant grin preceded Jane's answer, "You bet your freaking ass I am and don't you forget it."
"You got it, for all time."
"And I am yours forever."
Smiling lips met in the darkness of the room and Erica and Jane reaffirmed their love for one another several times before falling into each other's arms and dreamtime.
The End
