"Why does everyone think we're together?"

Sasuke sat at his kitchen counter and drank leisurely from his cup. After a moment of staring out the window above the sink, he turned his eyes to his open door with the frazzled woman in it.

Her hair looked fluffier than usual, as if she hadn't brushed it yet. There was no excessive color to her face, but her eyes looked stern and worn. She was also breathing heavier than usual, but Sasuke assumed she was being dramatic. She had those tendencies, after all.

"Sasuke," Hinata said as she closed the door deliberately, "why do people think we're together?"

Sasuke set his cup of tea down and rested his head on his hand. "Better question: Why don't you?"

"BECAUSE WE'RE–" Hinata sighed heavily and pressed her back against the door. "What have you been telling people?"

"I haven't been."

"Then why-"

"I haven't been telling them anything." He picked up his cup and drank from it again, his gaze sliding back out the window. "I haven't been correcting them either."

Hinata stared at Sasuke blandly. She pulled her hair to one side and slowly began to braid it, all the while wishing the handle of Sasuke's cup would break.

"We had an agreement," Hinata muttered.

Sasuke nodded absently. "That was years ago."

"Sasuke-"

"I haven't told anyone anything, but let's be honest." He looked at her condescendingly. "Neither of us has been treating all of…this like we can separate emotions from it anymore."

Hinata reddened, wringing her hair.

"It's our own fault for slipping up in public." His fingers drummed against the counter. "I've already come to terms with it, Hinata. I'm yours."

Hinata almost choked, her eyes flashing wide. She attempted to back away again, but she had no more room behind her. Sasuke wasn't looking at her, but she was squirming as though his piercing black eyes were boring into her.

"We don't have to get married," Sasuke said. "But let's stop pretending we're only using each other for sex. That hasn't been the case since-"

"Wh-what makes you think I even want to be with you?"

Sasuke was silent for a moment, almost as if he didn't hear her. When he finally turned his head to look at her, he was smirking, and his eyes were as piercing as ever.

"I had a date a couple weeks ago. Well, I would have had a date. She called me last minute saying my girlfriend confronted her."

"And you think I had something to do with that?" Hinata demanded. "A lot of girls knew you were going on a date with that girl."

"That's true. Everyone seemed to know after the fact. You were the only one who knew before."

Hinata blanched.

Sasuke laughed.

"But you don't want to be with me." He took another drink.
