James And Rebecca
Today, a new engine is coming to live on the Island of Sodor. All of the engines waited for news from the Fat Controller. "A new engine is arriving on the Island of Sodor today," he announced, "I would like everyone to make her feel like home. Please do so." "Yes, sir," the engines replied.
"But I would like to be ready for my next passenger train," James said to himself. "James!" Thomas said loudly. The engines heard a chuffing sound. "Here she comes," said the Fat Controller. Soon enough, an engine puffed into view. "I bet she is going to be fun," said Percy. "Bet so," said Thomas.
"My name is Rebecca," said the engine, "I'm glad to be living here on your railway. I hope we can be best friends." "Then please do so," concluded the Fat Controller as he walked away. Everyone puffed closer to meet Rebecca.
"Hello," they all said together. "Hi," smiled Rebecca, "I'm ready to work as soon as possible," said Rebecca. "So, Percy," said Thomas, "She is a fun engine."
"Even though she wears glasses?" asked Percy. "Stop that, Percy," Thomas said sternly. "Well," smiled Rebecca, "I am a hard working engine nonetheless. I can haul heavy loads."
"Never mind," said James, who was not close enough at all to meet Rebecca, "I have work to do!" James puffed away to collect his passenger train.
Hours later, James returned to Tidmouth Yards, only to see Rebecca and standing besides her stood the Fat Controller. "Well, James," said the Fat Controller, "I've noticed that you haven't talked to our new arrival at all. So I would like her to work with you on your next job. Maybe then you two can get to know each other."
"Yes, sir," replied James. "Now start right away," the Fat Controller said before leaving. "We're going to have fun together," said Rebecca. "Yeah, I suppose so," sighed James. "Let's go!" Rebecca said, going ahead of James. "Ok," said James. The two engines puffed off to the quarry.
"The quarry!" Rebecca said, "I've always wanted to work at a quarry!" "Not me," said James. "Come on, James," Rebecca said, "I'll be fun." "Yeah!" said Bill. "Fun," said Ben, "Fun all the time. Who are you?" "My name is Rebecca," Rebecca introduced herself, "The Fat Controller has ordered me to work with James today, and I can't wait to get started."
"Ah," Boco said, arriving, "Just in time, Rebecca. There is a large load waiting for an engine to take to the wharf." "We'll do it," Rebecca said. "I'll pull from the first," said James. "If you say so," said Rebecca, "And I'll push from behind."
So that's what they did. James and Rebecca hauled the heavy train away. But when they got to the hill, the trucks played their trick. "Hold back, hold back!" they giggled, "The two slow engines can't pull us up this hill!"
"What on earth?" said Rebecca out loud. "Come on!" shouted James. "I'm trying!" Rebecca replied, "These truck do not want to play nice!" "Then push harder!" shouted James, "Keep going!" "I will!" Rebecca replied. In no time at all, they were over the hill and on their way.
"We did it!" shouted Rebecca. "Yeah, we did," said James, "Hey, Rebecca is kind of fun." Soon enough, James and Rebecca had all of the naughty trucks unloaded at the wharf.
"Hey, James," said Duncan, "Who is she?" "She is Rebecca," answered James, "The new engine!" "Yes," replied Rebecca. "Rebecca," said James, "Want to go to the next job?"
"Sure," answered Rebecca, "Let's be off!" The two engines left the wharf to pull a heavy goods trains. "Ready?" Rebecca called out. "Yes!" answered James.
The two engines went double header with the goods train. Later, they even pulled the express together. "Together, we can do it!" they both said at the same time. The express wasn't difficult for them. "Rebecca is sure strong," thought James.
"No wonder Gordon is a proud express engine I heard," thought Rebecca. They both steamed by Gordon, waiting with a regular passenger train.
"Oh, you two," Gordon said watching the two engines go by together. By the end of the day, James and Rebecca puffed home together. "That was actually kind of fun," said James.
"Yes," agreed Rebecca, "You glad that I was there with you all the way?" "Yes," answered James, "Thank you Rebecca. Sorry that-" "I was too slow for you?" Rebecca said, "Nonsense. You've never though that! Ever!"
"Oh, yeah," said James, "I was just wanting to do things myself. That's all." "Well," said Rebecca, "We can do them together now." "Friends?" asked James. "Yes, we're friends now," said Rebecca.
So the two friends returned home together.
