Chapter 51

A distant collection of voices caught my ear. The harsh whispers turned into a fit of snickering. If I didn't know any better...

"Believe me; she's going to be fired if Gerda finds out."

Ah, yes. The little trio of maids with the nastiest gossip this castle has ever heard. I never bothered to learn their names. Doing their work, they clucked away like chickens about secrets they discovered or made up their own scandals.

I'm surprised they didn't see me for I was lounging on the love seat with the door half-opened. I could clearly see one of them. They started to bicker and I made my decision to leave. It's hard to read around babbling idiots.

"I'm not cleaning her room!" one screeched.

I stopped moving. Who are they talking about? Anna's messy but-

"I don't want to clean up after Miss Alexis either but I did it last week. It's your turn!"

"None of us should. I mean she had no social standings. I bet she's beneath us!"

Oh hell. Looks like I'm the spotlight subject. Why are they complaining? I hardly have anything to clean! I don't even sleep in my room! It's not like they do a good job anyways.

"Why is she even here?"

"I don't know. I thought she had a debt or past favor to the Queen but look at the treatment she receives!"

"Maybe she pays for it?"

"With what? She came from the village with nothing except the clothes on her back."

"There are other ways to pay for something..."

It was silent for a moment before they broke out in giggles and I heard a smack, "That's such a scandalous thing to say!"

"We are talking about the Queen! You don't think..."

"Not really but I wouldn't be surprised. Queen Elsa does have her redeeming qualities but I little doubt in her as a ruler. She won't fulfill her duties as a Queen but it's not like we can stop someone who can kill you with the flick of her wrist. With those powers, that danger still looms over Arendelle. She can do as she pleases."

"She's not tyrannical dictator!"

"I'm just prepared for our unnatural ruler to-"

I couldn't stop myself. My anger blinded my morals. I ignored their insults about me but Elsa was a different subject. How dare them! Before I could think through my next decision, the book already left my fingertips. I watched it fly through the air and hit the visible maid in her head. She had been the one calling Elsa dangerous and a bad Queen. She cried out and gripped the side of her head as I stormed over to them.

"What is wrong with you?" one of the other maids screeched.

"Me? All three of you should learn to hold your tongues! I'm sure it would be a lot worse if it had been Princesses Anna in here or the Queen herself."

They all shifted uncomfortably but the angry one kept glaring, "That gives you no right-"

"I think I have every right. I can easily report everything I heard and I'm certain Queen Elsa would enjoy what her servants speak of." I smirked at the fear in their faces, "But of course, we wouldn't want that. So, I'm warning you. If I ever hear anything like this, I won't hesitate to open my mouth."

They all nodded. I swiftly turned to pick up my book and walked away from them.

"You hit her with book."

"I didn't kill her! She's lucky it wasn't my fist."

"Alexis!"

"What?"

Elsa shook her head, "My dear, you can't assault people."

"I rather call it defending your honor with literature," I excused.

"What am I going to do with you?"

"Love me?"

She couldn't help but smile at that, "I'm being serious."

"I know. I'm sorry. She said some awful things but I shouldn't have thrown book at her. I promise I won't do that again to anyone."

"Thank you," she planted a kiss on my cheek. "I'll have a talk with the staff so no more 'defending my honor with literature'."

"I promise. I'll stay in my room for the rest of the day and out of trouble."

"Well, I do have to leave to visit the General at the military training base. Would you like to escort me?"

"I have no possible use but I do need to get out of this castle for a bit. Why not?"

"Perfect. It's near the castle a few miles down the road. Shall we go?"

"Yes, we shall," I agreed.

I followed her as we zipped through the castle to inform we would be leaving. When we made our way to the gate, I saw an unfamiliar carriage was prepared to leave. They even handed us dark cloaks for disguises. Now it made sense on why Elsa was wearing a dark blue dress not a typical ice gown.

"Do we really need to take the carriage? It's like a fifteen minute walk! And we're wearing disguises!" I complained.

"They want to ensure my safety," Elsa reasoned. "You didn't have to come with me."

"You asked me to be your escort. How could I say no? Plus, I didn't have anything else to do."

"Then shush, stop being snippy, and get in the carriage."

"You did not just tell me to shush."

"Shush," Elsa repeated and pushed me in the carriage.

I huffed while plopped in my seat, "I'm not snippy…"

A servant nearby helped Elsa inside and closed the door. Once we were settled, the carriage moved forward. I watched out the scenery out the window as I held Elsa's hand. Just as I predicted, we didn't even travel for long before the carriage stopped. When I stepped out, I immediately noticed the stone structure. It resembled a fortress. Tall fortified walls with guards stationed on top and at the wooden gates. I stepped closer to Elsa when the guards outside approached us.

"We'll lead you inside Youth Majesty."

She nodded and started to follow them with me trailing behind.

"Why is the army out here?" I asked.

"My great-grandfather decided the military need their own space. He worked with head of the military and navy to build this structure. All recruits and official soldiers are trained here," Elsa explained.

I turned to one of the guards, "What about you guys?"

"Oh, well, the Captain usually sends us for training but we never stay long unless stationed to guard the base," he answered.

I nodded, "Cool."

They escorted us through the gates and we entered the training area. The open sky fell over the entire arena for the building had a skylight. I watched in curiosity at the countless of men scattered around the place. The room was divided into sections. Swords in one area, archery in another, other weapons, and it seemed like physical combat in another part because that guy just got pinned to the floor.

"What's going on here?" a deep voice boomed. Most of the men stopped moving to watch a distinguished older man march over to us. Hard chiseled face with a frustrated expression, short dark hair with wisps of great, and his fit form shown from beneath his Arendelle uniform, I could only assume he was in charge. "Who let these two in?"

Elsa removed her cloak, "I hope I'm not interrupting."

"Oh, Queen Elsa," the man bowed, "I was awaiting your arrival. I apologize for my rudeness. I don't allow strangers into the facility."

"It's quite alright General Bennet. I can see you're busy."

His eyes landed on me so I quickly removed my hood and flashed him a smile, "I'm a friend. I promise I'm not sneaking in here."

"General Marcus Bennet," he introduced.

"Alexis," I greeted.

"Well, if you'll excuse me and the Queen, we have important matters to discuss."

"Try not to get into too much trouble," Elsa cautioned.

I shrugged, "I'll try."

She rolled her eyes and walked off with General Bennet. I looked around the room to try to find something to do. My feet began moving forward without my direction. I strode past the strange glances from the training soldiers. They're probably wondering why a girl was entering the arena and honestly, I thought the same thing but I followed my feet to wherever they were taking me. I finally stopped by a collection of swords. They look like those typical swords you see in the books. Long, skinny, and had a handle with that half circle on one side.

I'm not familiar with swords or any weapon for that matter but it seemed like they were calling to me. I reached over and took one from the collection. Light in my hand, I swiped the air, the wind hissing behind the blade.

"Ever used one before?"

The voice startled me and I let go of the sword letting it clatter to the ground. I turned to the man behind me, "Uh, no I haven't. I'm sorry I shouldn't have touched." I quickly scooped it up, "Knowing me, I might poke an eye out."

"Don't sell yourself short. You seemed to know what you're doing."

"Lucky guess, I suppose."

"If you want to learn, there are plenty of people here to teach you."

"Thanks but its okay. Why would ever use a sword anyways?"

He shrugged, "You never know when you might need a skill to defend yourself."

A taller man walked over, "Don't put ideas in her head! Women shouldn't handle weapons."

"Just because General Bennet says it doesn't mean I believe it. She can do it," the other argued.

"It's not proper. C'mon lass, hand it over," the tall man instructed. He reached towards me and on instinct; I swiftly pointed the sword at him. The tip grazed at his nose. The nice soldier marked with laughter.

"She's a natural! Nice job!" He congratulated with a pat on my back. Once I felt the weight of his hand, the scenery changed. No longer was I in the military training base but in a large chamber filled with swords. The tall soldier replaced with a frightened young man…

"Excellent work."

I turned my head to the left and saw an elder gentleman. I responded, "Thank you father."

Father? Wait, is this another memory?

"You're excused," my 'father' told the guy at the end of my sword. I pulled back allowing him to run off. I started to slide the sword to the side of my belt until my 'father' stopped me.

"Is something wrong?" I asked. Wow, the voice sounded young.

"I have a gift for you," he said. He gestured for me to follow him as he walked over to a veiled box.

"What is it for?"

"My son, you've made great progress and I've decided you need a weapon to call your own."

He removed the cloth to reveal the glass box underneath and inside laid an extraordinary sword. But I was unable to focus on the detail for my vision blurred. I've seen this somewhere! But how? I don't use swords! This doesn't make sense!

"Son? Are you alright? Are you alright..."

"Hey! Are you alright?"

I gasped as I recognized my return to reality. I faced the ground and when I snapped my head up, I was surrounded by a few soldiers. I then noticed I fell to my knees during my memory. My face lightly flushed in embarrassment.

"I'm fine. I just got a bit dizzy. Could someone escort me back to the carriage?"

The man who offered me lessons helped me up and took me back to carriage. I thanked him before entering. I curled up on the seat when Elsa stepped in with a look of worry.

"Alexis, are you alright? I heard you almost fainted."

"I had another memory. This one took a toll on me but I'll be okay."

She sat down next to me brushing back my hair, "What did I say about getting into trouble."

"I said I'd try! I never promised!"

"You know I'm joking. Do you want to talk about it?"

"Not now. You're busy. Go back to your meeting."

"Are you sure?"

"I'm positive. I'll tell you on the way home."

Elsa kissed my forehead before reluctantly leaving me to rest. I didn't want her to worry but this mystery just got a bit more complicated. My connections to the voice have gotten deeper. Why does my mind believe we share similar abilities? Without him to answer, I was still left in the dark.

A/N: I apologize for such a long wait for an update and I know it's pretty crappy but it's a filler. I'm having trouble with the upcoming chapter. So, don't argue with my illogical military base. It sounded really cool, this is a fantasy world, so I'm keeping it. Also, school has started so I don't know how long it will take to update but I promise to try to put up a chapter once a week. Oh... I forgot to mention something that I SHOULD have told you earlier but thisstoryisabouttoendverysoonpleasedon'tkillme.

Anyways, I'll respond to your reviews!

dragon matt blue: Thank you so much! You're review encourages me to keep writing.

alehficsmore: I wanted to mess with you a little bit. I know, I'm awful. Hm, I can see how that line is very emotional and deep but considering it's from Elsa's mindset it has to be. It's okay,I've always sensed you were watching.

revealtheremedy: A good walk always clears the feels.

RJCA27: Thanks, and I understand. Sweaty eyeballs can occur at any moment.

rowingioannina-NOI: I feel accomplished

TheGalladeAcrossTheStreet: I really wish I could but I don't have time or money. I will just be that loser who has to wait because no one took me. Anyways, I'm sorry I added on to your feels. I can tell you had a hard fanfic moment.

pcry9999: Thank you, I appreciate the offer and will take it into consideration.

Guest: Thank you, you're so sweet! No worries, I have pressed the review button too early too. I will not abandon this story. I love my readers and writing too much to do that.
