"What's wrong, Hue?"
The boy, nineteen in two days, looked up at his older cousin and gave her a fake smile. His face was pale, his brown eyes wide in terror and his curly brown hair was slightly unkempt – very unusual for her meticulous cousin. Molly approached him and sat beside him, smoothing her skirt over her knees and taking his hand.
"Hugo? Have you been sleeping?" she asked him gently, her Healer side kicking in as she examined his placid complexion and the dark circles underneath his eyes.
"I'm fine, Mol," he reassured her, but the tremor in his voice told her otherwise. She regarded him in concern.
"You're not a very convincing liar," she told him with a small laugh. "What's the matter?"
With a deep sigh, Hugo took another sip of his drink – Molly wrinkled her nose at the strong essence of whiskey – and slumped forward onto his arms.
"I'm bringing Leo home," he mumbled. "Mum invited him for dinner tonight."
Molly beamed at him and squeezed his shoulder. "That's great, Hue!" she cried happily. Hugo had only recently come out to his parents. Of course, Rose and most of his cousins already knew; mainly Lily, Victoire, Molly and Roxanne – but it had been a great shock to Ron especially. The dinner invitation for Hugo and his boyfriend was definitely a step in the right direction.
"Rose is bringing Scorpius along too, to break up the tension."
"Honestly, Hue, I'm so happy for you," Molly smiled and drew him into a hug. Hugo merely laughed unsurely and half-heartedly returned her embrace.
"I can't do this, Molly," he told her. "I can't face Dad. I just… the look on his face when I told him – " He buried his face in his hands again, his whole body shuddering. Molly eyed him sympathetically and patted his back.
"Yes, you can, Hugo. You're so brave."
"No, I'm not, Molly!" he cried aggressively. "I'm a bloody coward. If I was brave, I would have come out years ago; I wouldn't have sat there on the couch, stuttering like a lunatic, needing my sister to hold my hand!"
He took another swig of whiskey and wiped his mouth on his sleeve. "You didn't see his face when I told him," he continued. "I've never seen him look so… disappointed! He's ashamed of me, Molly! I'm a disgrace! He probably wishes he'd never had me for a son!" Tears had begun forming in his deep, brown eyes and his bottom lip trembled. Molly felt a surge of affection for her younger cousin.
"Now," she said firmly, taking hold of both of his hands and keeping her eyes locked on his. "You listen to me, Hugo Charles Weasley. Your father is not ashamed of you! He loves you, Hue. He loves you so much. No matter what you do or who you love, your father will always love you, do you understand me?"
Hugo nodded slowly, letting tears roll down his cheeks.
"Don't you ever let me hear you say that he doesn't want you for a son! He should be honoured to have such a wonderful, brave boy for a son. I know that I'm honoured to have you as my cousin."
A small smile tugged at the corner of Hugo's lips. Molly beamed at him, tears shining in her own eyes.
"I love you, Mol," he told her softly.
"I love you too, Hugo," she replied. "We all do. You just need to be reminded of it, sometimes."
A/N: Awwww Molly is just the best cousin ever, don't you think? I'm beginning to love her more than I love Dominique - which is saying something because she's my favourite Weasley-Potter. By the way, Hugo's boyfriend is Leo Anthony Shacklebolt, the son of Kingsley and Hestia Jones. Molly is best friends with Leo's sister Destiny, who I've previously mentioned before. The world of Harry Potter is definitely a small one indeed. I hope you enjoyed this :)
Ages: Molly (20), Hugo (18, almost 19)
