Like a Brother

She hadn't really thought she'd see him again, not if she was being honest. Or rather, she didn't think she'd see him again as August, rather than Pinocchio the little boy, but as her friend that got her to believe in her son and the magic that now basically controlled her life. And yeah, maybe once upon a time there had been something budding between them, but not now. Not anymore. Now he was more like her brother, and as the only one who had really spent any sort of time watching out for her since her first day on earth, that was a connection that wouldn't be broken anytime soon.

Having him back in their lives was odd though, mostly because so much of what had happened in the past few years escaped him in a strange way. He hadn't been an adult, so when it came to real-life, adult situations, he hadn't been present. So yes, he knew that Emma was in a relationship with the pirate, but the whole town knew that by this point, whether by their late night street kisses or their constant hand holding. But for August, the man who had spent most of his life watching out for Emma Swan, there was still a certain amount of responsibility he felt towards her well being, and he made sure Captain Hook knew it.

They were following the rest of the group, August hanging back the same way the Captain usually did, intent on having a few words with him. Granted, based on what he'd seen so far, it wasn't as though Emma appeared to be in any real danger with this man. In fact, he seemed good for her. But that didn't mean he couldn't still make his own intentions clear.

"So...you're Captain Hook" August started once the rest of the group was far enough ahead and, while taking another step forward, the man next to him glanced at him sideways.

"Aye, what of it?"

August grinned, shaking his head a bit, "Oh nothing, just I never expected a ruthless pirate like yourself to settle down, but it seems to me that your time spent with Emma is anything like your adventures on the seas."

Killian frowned a bit, "No, it's not like my 300 years spent under the control of a nasty little boy, but it keeps me busy enough. There's never a quiet moment around here, although I'm sure you know that already" he continued, nodding his head towards the group ahead of them.

"Yeah, I suppose I do" he chuckled before pausing for a moment, Killian still walking in silence beside him. "You know," he said finally, breaking the quiet, "I was sent through the wardrobe with Emma and spent a good part of my life making sure she got to where she needed to be."

The pirate stopped again, looking pointedly at the other man, "I have a bad feeling that you're either about to tell me I should stay away from Emma or that you're in love with the same woman I am."

He shook his head, smiling again, "Actually, neither, she's more of a sister to me, but it's good to hear you say that." August continued walking then, leaving Hook to follow.

"Say what?" he asked a moment later.

"That you love her. Emma deserves someone who is going to love her and support her, you know...be her rock through all of this crazy that we live in. I can't say that if you hurt her you I won't hurt you, but if you can be that for her then I just wanted to let you know that I support that."

Killian opened his mouth and then shut it again, studying August's expression before continuing, "While I still may be confused about your connection to her, I appreciate that. It hasn't been easy."

"Nothing with Emma ever is" August added, looking back at him and sharing a laugh, "but she's the savior, and I think you know just as well as I do that she's definitely worth it."

"Aye, that she is."
