*Hey guys, sorry it's been so long... With writers block being a bitch, along with life it's taken a while for this to come. Hope the wait was worth it.
Dean jolted awake, breathing heavy and sweating, he sat there for a few moments catching his breath and tried to chase away the nightmare. He glanced at the alarm clock and saw that it was only 4:30 in the morning, he sighed and glanced over at Charlie, who was on her stomach drooling on the pillow, Dean smiled a little and pulled the blanket higher up on his friend and climbed out of the bed.
Dean walked down the dark hall and snuck into the nursery to check on Henry, Dean felt his heart swell when he saw his son sleeping on his back with his hands in fists above his head and sucking on an imaginary pacifier. Dean quietly shut the door and saw Sam sprawled out on the couch with Lucy laying on top of him, sensing someone else was in the room, Lucy lifted her head and started wagging her tail when she saw it was Dean.
He walked over and scratched her ear, "go back to sleep" he whispered and went upstairs to see his mom at the kitchen sink getting a glass of water. "How is he?" Dean asked, "he's fine, we had to up his morphine just a little, but he was sleeping when I checked on him before I left." Mary explained.
"When can he come home?" Dean asked, "if he keeps progressing he'll probably be able to come home tomorrow, only because I'm here, if he lived with Gabe or Naomi he wouldn't. I convinced the doctor since he lives with me, a nurse, he'll be fine." Mary said and Dean went and gave her a hug. "Thank you." He mumbled, "you're welcome… Why are you up anyway?" she asked, "nightmare." Dean said but he could feel himself getting sleepy again smelling his mother's calming scent. "Go back to bed, visiting hours start at 9." Mary said and kissed Dean's forehead.
"Come on big guy, let's go see papa." Dean said as he lifted Henry from his car seat. Dean took the elevator to the floor where Cas was and made his way towards the room, only to find it empty with the bed made.
Starting to panic, Dean turned around when he saw a nurse walking down the hall, "excuse me!" Dean yelled after her, "yes?" she asked, "um, my mate, Castiel Novak was in this room, and it's now empty… Can you please tell me where he is?" he asked trying not to loose it.
"Yes, he went in for an x-ray and I believe they moved him down to the first floor… I'm not sure what room though, so you might want to check with the front desk." The nurse explained, "oh, okay. Thank you." Dean said and made his way towards the elevator once again.
Finally getting the room number after proving to the new nurse at the station that he was Cas' mate, he made his way to the room, finding Cas attempting to eat Jello with his right hand. Dean stood there for a moment and watched his mate, Cas had the most concentrated look on his face and Dean could hear the small growl he let out when the chunk of jello fell off the spoon.
"Do I need to feed you?" Dean pipped up after the second time the jello fell. Cas jumped a little, not noticing Dean in the doorway, "will I loose my manly alpha complex if I say yes?" Cas grumbled and pushed his tray away. "Not one bit." Dean said softly and leaned down to kiss Cas.
"Someone's missed you." Dean said placing Henry in Cas' left arm. "Hey buddy! I missed you." Cas said and kissed the top of Henry's head. Henry squealed and reached for his papa's face, "Dean? What's wrong?" Cas asked when he noticed his mate crying.
Dean quickly wiped the tears away, not realizing he was crying, "nothing… Just still a little shook up about this." he chuckled. "I'm okay, everything is going to be okay now." Cas said softly and Dean just nodded. After a while, Henry just started babbling, causing the two to laugh, "I think he's gonna start teething soon." Dean said, "how do you know?" Cas asked.
"He's been chewing on his fist a lot and I asked mom about it and that's what she said." Dean explained, "she also said, to prepare ourselves because teething babies are nightmares."
"Lovely." Cas mumbled. The continued talking for a while when there was a soft knock on the door, they turned around to see Charlie and Benny.
"Benny?!" both Cas and Dean yelled, "surprise brother." Benny grinned, "what are you doing here?" Dean asked and got up to give his friend a hug. "Charlie called me and told me what happened. I jumped on the next flight out." Benny explained.
"But what about school?" Cas asked and Benny ducked his head down and rubbed the back of his neck, "I uh… I dropped out." Benny said quietly.
"WHAT?!" The three of them shouted, which startled Henry, who started crying. Dean picked up his son and turned back to Benny, "explain please." "Well, my parent's are pissed as hell, I have no money now after my two way ticket, so once I go back to Louisiana, I'm there for a long time… I'm staying with red while I'm here." Benny said.
"How long are you back for?" Cas asked, "I go back two days after your guys' homecoming." "Well, at least we got you for a couple of weeks!" Charlie smiled.
By time Monday rolled around, Cas wasn't overly thrilled to go back to school. Mainly because he didn't want people bumping into his shoulder; both he and Dean had stayed home from school on Friday, just to give Cas an extra day to heal.
"Are you ready for this?" Dean asked once they pulled into the parking lot at school. "Not really, but I'll live." Cas sighed, his bad arm was in a sling to prevent him from moving his arm. "Just avoid getting pushed into walls and lockers." Sam grinned from the back seat.
"Thank's Sam. I'll keep that in mind." Cas replied and pushed open the Impala door. Dean jogged around the car and came up on Cas' left, "you always walk on my right." Cas said, "yeah, well I thought I'd protect your arm a little." Dean said softly and blushed. "Thank you." Cas smiled.
They got inside and put everything in their lockers before heading to Homeroom when a classmate blocked their way. "Well, if it isn't the school hero and his bitch." he sneered, "oh fuck off Justin." Dean sighed, "do I look like I'm talking to you?" Justin sneered and Dean just rolled his eyes.
"Look fuck-tard, we don't have time for this shit." Dean said, "what, you have nothing to say hero? Have to have your bitch talk for you?" Justin asked. "Call him bitch one more time." Cas growled. "What can you do? You only have one arm, but I guess your bitch does your fighting anyway." Justin smirked but it was quickly morphed into pain when Cas' fist connected with his jaw.
"Listen here you prick. You may be an alpha, you may be bigger than me, but no one talks about Dean that way, or me. I might have one arm but I will still beat the shit out of you. Understand?" Cas growled, when Justin didn't answer Cas kicked him in the knee, bringing the bigger alpha down, "understand?!" Cas yelled, and Justin just nodded, "good. Let's go Dean." Cas said and stomped off.
"I gotta say, seeing you get all growly like that kinda turned me on." Dean grinned and nudged Cas' good arm. "Shut up." Cas grumbled, "he pissed me off." he said as he sat down. Just as homeroom was about to in Crowley walked in and made his way towards their table.
"Boys." Crowley said, "Fergus." Cas responded and Dean had to bite his cheek to keep from laughing, "very funny Mr. Novak, just like your little performance in the hallway this morning."
"Douche bag had it coming." Dean said, "Mr. Winchester, don't start with me." Crowley sighed and proceeded to hand them both detention slips. "If this happens again, it'll be a suspension."
"Fuck. I have to work after school." Dean groaned, "at least it's only an hour. I'm sure Mr. Murray will understand." Cas said quietly.
By time Dean got off work it was 8:30, so he grabbed left overs out of the fridge and heated them up before going downstairs. "You're home late." his mom said from the couch, where she was cleaning Cas' wound, "yeah. Someone went home sick so I said I'd stay and lock up since I was an hour late." Dean shrugged and dug into his food.
"Charlie called, she and Benny want to hang out after school tomorrow." Cas said, "they'll have to come here, no one can watch Henry." Dean said, "I already told her and she's okay with that, she said something about 'missing the little Hobbit'." Cas laughed.
"Are you boys going to homecoming this year?" Mary asked? "I don't know. We haven't really decided yet if we want to get someone to take Henry or just to stay home." Dean said pushing his plate away. "Personally, I would rather stay home, the dance wasn't very fun last year… But Charlie did say something about throwing another party." Cas said.
"Well, if you stay home during the game and the dance, I'll watch Henry for the rest of the night. On one condition." Mary said, "what?" Dean asked, "no more grandkids." Mary stated.
Dean blushed, "Mom! Jesus!" Cas just stared at the floor, the tip of his ears turning red. Mary laughed, "I'm just saying. Don't get me wrong, I love Henry, just no more for a while." she said and went upstairs.
