Chapter Fifty-Five
A Job with Lucy
"Here you go," Mira said with a large smile upon her face, "You are now an official member of Fairy Tail."
She had just stamped my skin with the Fairy Tail glyph upon my forearm. I stared down at the golden symbol that had appeared upon my skin, feeling on odd sense of pride at the sight of the emblem there. I lightly touched it for a few seconds before glancing up toward the white haired young woman across me.
"I guess I am part of Fairy Tail now," I told her.
"That you are," she said.
It was a few days after the huge brawl. I had decided to come back to the guild today to get my stamp and to become an official member of the guild. I glanced at the large guild behind me, noticing that they were still a few damages still visible from the brawl that had taken place and I couldn`t help but smile at it.
Now I was part of Fairy Tail, meaning that little wish I had ever since I was first aware that I was in Earth Land was now realized and it was making me giddy. Mira had probably seen the look on my face for she laughed drawing my attention toward her.
"What?"
"You just look so happy," she said.
"I guess with me becoming part of a new guild and with new adventures down the road," I told her, "I just can`t help but feel excited…and Grandpa Rob did talk to me a lot of Fairy Tail."
Mira raised her eyebrows.
"You knew him too?" she asked.
I nodded.
"Yeah, back at the Tower he was always telling me stories about his adventures with Master Makarov. He also told me that Fairy Tail was a place where everyone is a friend you could depend on no matter what kind of situation you were facing."
"That does sound like something Rob would say."
Master Makarov was there with both of his hands behind his back, a gentle look upon his aged face. I glanced down at the Master and feel a grin work upon my lips.
"Master," Mira greeted.
"How are you settling in Eve?" he asked.
"Well I haven`t got any threat for the Phantom war that happened," I told him, "I could say that I am settling in pretty well."
The Master nodded.
"Well, I hope you will enjoy the Harvest Festival that will be up in a few days," he said as he walked away.
I blinked at him in confusion before glancing at the barmaid beside me.
"Harvest Festival?" I repeated.
"It`s a festival that will take place on the second week of October on the 15th," Mira told me, "Its to celebrate the harvest for the year. They will be a large number of visitors from everywhere that will come to celebrate with us but the biggest event will be the Fantasia parade…I can hardly wait for it."
"Fifteen of October," I mumbled, "That`s only a few days away from now."
Mira grinned.
"I know," she said.
I chuckled.
"I`m sure that I will be able to enjoy the show…but I better go try to get a Job…or I won't have any money for my rent money."
"I hope you will find a good one," Mira waved.
I made my way toward the Request board and a large man with Indian styled clothes was standing right in front of it and he seems to be indecisive about what type of job to take but what surprised me was the sight of Lucy standing beside him with both hands on her waist.
"Lucy," I greeted.
The blonde turned around and found me with her large eyes and she gave me a smile.
"Hey Eve," she greeted, "You come looking for a job?"
"Yeah," I told her, "I`ve got to make a few jewel for rent and food."
"You`re in that same boat too huh," she said and I noticed that she was looking down too.
"What do you mean?"
"My rent pay is coming up so I have to try to go on a job on my own," she said, "But I`m not sure about which one to take."
I glanced toward the Board with a light frown upon my face seeing the number of requests. The Board was really filled up with almost every inch of it covered with requests and it didn't surprise me after all, Fairy Tail was the most powerful guild in all of the Fiore Kingdom.
"Wow, the board is so filled up," I commented, "Not even Phantom`s was that full…I guess Fairy Tail really is the most popular out of all the guilds out there."
The one that drew my attention was the Monster Hunt and I approached closer to it to read.
Monster Hunt
The citizens of the town of Maria had all spoken about the sighting of a vicious monster in the mountain pass leading out of the Village. Please get rid of the Monster for us, Reward money: 200,000 Jewels
"This one looks promising," I said pulling the poster down, "And quite a hefty sum too."
"Eh?" Lucy said surprised, "You`re going to do this one by yourself?"
"Yeah," I told her glancing at the blonde, "I do these kinds of Jobs all the time back when I was with Phantom."
"You`re brave," she said, her figure slumping lightly.
I chuckled, "Or maybe I am just confident in my own skills. Say, Lucy how come you are here by yourself? Aren`t you usually with Natsu, Erza and Gray?"
The blonde sighed.
"Usually but Erza had left the guild earlier saying that she wanted to fix the Armors she had damaged during the Tower of Heaven business," she answered, "Well, Gray was here earlier but he left on a Job with Juvia."
"Really…that`s surprising," I said, "What about Natsu?"
Lucy pointed toward one of the table and sure enough, the Fire Dragon Slayer was there lying upon the table with his face pale as if he was sick. I blinked at him completely taken aback by it and he didn`t even twitch when Happy was dancing around his head along with a Fire stick.
"Look like he is still sick from eating that Etherion," Lucy said, glancing at the boy with a worried look upon her face.
"I would have thought he had recovered by now," I said with a light frown.
"If I don't get money for rent I`m going to be in so much trouble," Lucy whined, "And I don't know if I can handle a Job on my own."
I glanced at the girl.
"Then come on the Job with me?" I offered.
The blonde looked at me in surprise.
"Eh?"
"The Monster Hunt," I told her, "You can do it with me and we`ll split the reward fifty-fifty. The money should be able to cover your rent for this month right?"
Lucy looked nervous.
"I`m not too sure if I would be useful in this kind of Job you know," she said, "I`m not strong enough of a fighter…"
"You`ll do fine," I told her, "But if there is fighting, why don't you let me handle it?"
"If you`re sure," she said.
I nodded and made my way toward where Mira was.
"Hey, can we check this one out?" I asked her.
She blinked at us.
"Lucy, you`re going with Eve?"
"Yeah," she said with a shy smile.
"That`s good," Mira said, "maybe you can show Eve the ropes then…oh, a Monster Hunt quest…this thing could take times you know."
"I would usually agree with you Mira but Monster Hunts are my specialty," I told her, "It won't take me three days to find this monster and destroy it."
She nodded and made her way toward the counter with a large book with the Fairy Tail symbol upon the brown cover and opened it. She reached a page and started to write down the information upon it and when she was done, she looked up toward us.
"Here you go," she said, "I will notify the town about their Request being answered. Hope you two have a safe trip."
"Thanks Mira," I told her with a light smile.
"I`m going to my house," Lucy told me as we walked off, "I will have to go get ready for the mission."
"Sure, we`ll meet at Magnolia Station," I told her.
Lucy grinned at me before taking off at a run out of the guild. I glanced down at the Request again and they placed direction as to where their town was located and considering it was in the Mountain, it could mean passing near Mount Hakabe and continue by the Forest until we reach the second mountain Range…
This trip might take us a day and a half to get to the town, I thought making calculation, But if we took the train…and descend it at that station…we could get there in a few hours…
I smiled to myself.
"Let`s get this show on the road then," I smirked.
I made my way down the street with a light smile upon my face as I made my way toward where the station was. Magnolia was, as always filled with people, thought I think that it seems to be more crowded than usual probably for the Harvest Festival that will take place on the fifteen and considering it was the 7th today, it was still seven days away.
It`s already October, I thought looking at the sky above, To think earlier this year I was still part of Phantom and now I am a member of Fairy Tail.
Chuckling to myself, I continued to walk toward the Station and as I got closer, to it I took notice of the busty blonde girl running toward me. She was dressed differently with long brown boots and a Heart Kruz blue shirt upon her.
"You changed?" I asked her.
"I took a shower to freshen up," she said, "So how long are we going to be away for this Job?"
I thought about it.
"Depends on how hard it is to find the monster," I told her.
Lucy nodded.
The two of us made our way toward the train and we were lucky to find the train that will take us to Rosewood was there. Lucy and I boarded it and we both took a seat across each other waiting for the train to depart.
She had a flyer in her hands and she was looking down at it reading the content.
"What`cha got there?" I asked.
"Happy gave it to me," she said, "It something about the Harvest Festival…Wow, a Miss Fairy Tail Contest and the reward is 500,000 Jewels."
I blinked.
"You`re entering?"
"I might just do so," Lucy said a light grin upon her face, "I mean, I am a new beautiful face here at the guild, meaning I will have a good chance that I might win…"
"If there is such a contest, you know that most of the ladies of Fairy Tail are going to enter…if not all of them," I reminded her.
Lucy seems to suddenly get depressed.
"You`re right," she said, "With the likes of Mirajane and Erza entering they might threw me out of the loop completely but I won't give up if it means earning extra money on the side."
I chuckled.
"Well, you have my support."
She grinned again.
"Thanks Eve,"
We reached the town of Maria somewhere around five o`clock. It was really small too considering that it was somewhere around in the mountains and it had gotten colder up there as well. Lucy had wrapped herself in a large brown cloak and I simply had placed myself my coat upon my form to keep the chill out.
The two of us toward where the Chief of the town was a small man by the name of Mabu.
"Oh, you`ve answered my request about the Monster," he said.
"Sure thing," Lucy said.
"I have gotten word from your guild that capable wizards have been sent," he said taking us in, "We are eternally grateful…with the day of the Saint Maria is almost upon us, I am glad that someone will finally get read of that monster."
"Er…Day of Saint Maria?" I repeated confused.
Mabu seems surprised at my confusion.
"Oh, you don't know of it?" he said, "Well it is something like an offering of respect you might say to the Mother of our Lord."
"A religious offering?" I said.
"Yes, if you would like to see it that way," Mabu smiled lightly.
I never once thought that they are some people that worshipped God in Earth Land, thought I do know that they have churches so they must at least have some of the same belief as we do. I was pleasantly surprised by this new revelation.
"It will be nice to witness something like this," I told him.
"Oho," Mabu said with a grin, "It will be taking place in two days…so I`m sure that it will be a sight to any outsiders."
After the meeting with the Village`s Chief, the two of us made our way through the village.
"So how are we going to find this monster?" Lucy asked.
I gave her a glance.
"I already found it," I told her.
Lucy looked shocked.
"How did you…?"
"When we first got into town," I told her, "I send out a few feathers to spread out over the mountain and had been searching through the entire time we were talking with Mabu. It`s the same spell I used to find you back during the war against Phantom."
Lucy was surprised.
"So that`s how you were able to find me so quickly," she said.
I smiled at her.
"So Lucy, you ready for some Monster smack down?" I asked her.
"Not really," she said, "But it is going to get dark soon."
She was right since we reached the town way down in the afternoon and we probably have only one hour of sunlight left.
"Then let`s take care of that monster quickly."
"But I am feeling tired from the journey," the blonde said, "How about we turn in for the night and first thing in the morning, we go hunting."
I let out a sigh before thinking about it.
Well I am feeling beat from the journey, I thought, I can just use the Feather Resonance again if I want to find that monster and considering I know how it`s magical presence feel now…I might find it quicker than before.
"Maybe you`re right," I told her, giving the blonde a glance, "Taking a rest from the journey will do us good if we have to fight a monster. Let`s go find an inn so we can spend the night."
"Sure, follow me," Lucy said, and from the look on her face, she was relieved that we didn`t have to fight yet.
I followed after her.
