"Belikov," I answered sleepily, not even bothering to look at the caller ID on my cell phone.

"Hi, Dimka," I recognized my sister's voice in an instant. To say I was surprised would be an understatement. It wasn't often I heard from my family, especially Sonya.

I loved all of the women in my life dearly, but Sonya and I were never particularly close. We both liked to keep to ourselves and respected each other's space.

"Is everyone okay?" I asked, sitting up to rub the sleep from my eyes.

"Everyone's good, little brother; don't worry." She answered in our native tongue. I could hear a baby crying in the distance. "Well, Anastasia's hungry," she amended.

I glanced over at Rose who was still lightly snoring next to me, thankful that she was a heavy sleeper.

After a few sounds of shifting, Sonya came back to the line.

"Sorry, I'm feeding her now. How are you and Roza doing?"

"We're doing well. The Queen's guard is keeping her busy, and I've been pulling a lot of overtime."

I was still confused as to where this late night friendly conversation was going.

"That's good. I'm glad you're both happy. Everyone needs love in their lives," she sounded dreamy.

I suddenly had a clue as to where this was going. For as long as I'd been aware, Sonya had always been desperate to find 'true love.' As kids she'd spend countless hours reading fairytales, and as we grew older she became obsessed with romances.

Every boy I could recall her dating had been "the one." She so easily fell for the stories they'd string her along with. I hoped after everything that led to my niece's conception she's calmed down. She was never as responsible as Karolina when it came to her love life.

"Have you met anyone?" I raked my hand through my hair. Already trying to figure out what kind of damage control she'd require.

"I have actually. He's an American. I figured I could come visit you and Roza, and that maybe we could talk face to face one day. I still haven't seen him in person. I thought court could be a safe place for us to finally meet."

I let out a heavy sigh, "Is this American royal?" I asked.

"No, Dimka. He's not even Moroi."

At least that was something.

"Where'd you meet him?"

"Online. We do have our own dating sites you know."

I did know. I also knew they were used more for hook-ups than actual dates.

"Sonya…" I started. You could hear the disapproval dripping from my tone.

"Dimitri, I'm a grown woman. Either way I'm going to meet him. I just thought this was the safer option, and I'd get to visit you."

"No, you're right. I'm sorry. What's he like anyway?"

"Oh, Dimka, he's so sweet. He's a Guardian, good friends with Karo's boyfriend actually. He works at one of the academies, but I don't remember which one. Maybe you know him."

I did know my fair share of the Guardian's state side, especially those who worked in the academies. We'd been forced to attend many conferences together. I actually had met Karolina's new boyfriend that way. Guardian Volkov was a good man, any friend of his couldn't be too bad. He didn't tolerate that sort of company.

"I might, what's his name?"

"Guardian Alto. Stan Alto."
