'We Own It' by 2 Chainz ft. Wiz Khalifa

One shot, everything rides on tonight,

Even if I've got three strikes, Ima go for it,

This moment, we own it,

And I'm not to be played with,

Because it can get dangerous,

See these people I ride with,

This moment, we own it,

And the same ones that I ride with,

Be the same ones that I die with,

Put it all out on the line with,

Letty was upstairs rummaging in the back of the closet when she heard the Jetta pull up outside, quickly followed by the sound of the front door opening and closing. They were routine noises and as such simply faded into the background as she continued in her search. A search that was proving useless, and as Letty sat back on her knees and shoved the hair out of her face she became aware of the commotion from the floor below.

It was a busy house with lots of comings and goings and there was always a fair bit of chaos. But this was different from the normal 'I've whooped your ass now suffer bitch' or 'Who took the last beer it was mine' and nor was it the turbulent 'I've lost my temper and someone it gonna get there ass kicked'. The sounds that were reaching her were indicative of serious turmoil and it caused an uneasy shiver to run down Letty's spine.

Abandoning her search Letty quickly jumped to her feet and hot footed it out the bedroom and across the landing to the stairs. Half way down she stopped in order to survey the madness her family had become. Jesse was gabbling frantically and all but bouncing off of the walls, he was so wired. Vince was bellowing and gesticulating, stalking back and forth the expression on his face more than a little wild. Mia was also fluttering around the room, looking rather like a distraught butterfly, something very much like panic distorting her features. Leon was doing his best to calm the others down but since he was as hyped up as them it did little good and his voice was just one more lair of sound. And Dom…

"Where's Dom?" Somehow Letty's words managed to momentarily cut through the commotion, though by the time she reach the bottom of the stairs they were once again talking over each other.

"Enough!" Letty managed to pitch her voice to once again carry over the hubbub before turning to the still twitching Jesse. "Where is he Jesse?"

"Tran." The kid said shifting his weight from foot to foot, his hands clenching and unclenching convulsively as he tried to keep from completely freaking out.

"Okay," Letty said soothingly when she really wanted to scream, but the main thing was to keep Jesse calm enough to explain. "Just take a breath and tell me what happened."

"We were coming out the store," He started in a rush, his eyes fixed of the words Semper Fidelis scrawled across her chest, apparently finding it easy to speak when not meeting her eyes. "Almost at the car when Tran jumped us."

"Just Tran?" She questioned. There was no way Johnny Tran could take Dom one on one, which meant in his effort to tell the tale Jesse was missing details.

"No, no. Lance was there too and others I didn't know. Three, no four. They jumped Dom he was walking behind, but there was nothing he could do there were too many of them. I ran, I would have helped but he told me to go and so I did." All the suppressed energy seemed to vanish as Jesse wilted in place, his face a mask of shame. "I ran away."

"You did the right thing." Letty reassured him, Jesse was good under the hood of a car but in a fight the kid was a liability. She briefly squeezed his hand and forced a smile onto her lips, though judging from his reaction it looked more like death rictus.

Then, all business like, she began methodically searching the draws in the sideboard. All the time concentrating on keeping her breathing regular and steady because she knew that if she started freaking out then everything would completely breakdown. Dom might be the gravity that drew all the members of the team in, but Letty was the linchpin that held them all together.

"What are you doing?" Vince snapped as he paused in his pacing to stare at the girl, his expression an odd blend of exasperation and almost homicidal rage.

"I'm going to get him." Letty didn't even bother to look round, she just kept on rummaging through the draw until at last her fingers made contact with cool metal. She straitened, Beretta in hand and begin checking the chamber and the clip.

"You can't Letty, you don't even know where thy are." Mia said though it was obvious she was conflicted about what she was saying. Yes she wanted Letty stay where it was safe but she also wanted her brother back.

"They're in Chinatown. That old restaurant, the one that's been closed forever, that's where Tran always hangs out. They'll be there I know it and so do you." Letty exchanged a nod of confirmation with Vince as she flicked on the safety and secured the gun in the waistband of her cargo pants.

"But…" Leon started and trailed off at the look on her face and he suddenly understood what was meant by the expression the lights are on but nobody's home. Letty's rational mind had clearly gone on vacation and what was left was metaphorically up in the attic in a rocking chair cackling its head off.

Letty didn't say another word just snatched up her keys and headed for the door, Vince hot on her heals. Leon and Jesse exchanged a quick glance before dashing after the other two. Staying behind and just waiting wasn't even an option.

"Wait here," Leon said, glancing back over his shoulder as stepped through the front door. "We'll bring him back."

All Mia could do was nod silently as the door shut behind the departed foursome. A moment later she heard the roar of high performance engines coming to life, then quickly fade as the three cars sped off. No doubt headed directly for Chinatown and an unsuspecting Johnny Tran. They weren't the normal sort of Calvary but they were a very fitting one for her big brother.

Dom turned his head and spat blood onto the ground, he'd taken beatings before and knew that the thing to do was just grit his teeth and bear it. He'd wounded Tran's pride once too often it would seem. Not to mention the supposedly huge insult he'd given Tran's family when he chosen Letty over Tran's sister. Now the Asian pretty boy was out for revenge and since he knew in a fair fight he'd never stand a chance he'd called in backup. If his jaw hadn't of been throbbing Dom could have almost laughed, here he was being held down and the worse he would walk away with would be a few bruises and maybe a mild concussion. Tran might think of himself as some sort of badass, but the reality was he was just a kid playing pretended.

It took Dom a moment to recognise that the low rumbling he was hearing wasn't in fact distant traffic but several rapidly approaching car engines. He must have been hit harder in the head than he had realised because it took him even longer to recognise the sound of the engines and realise what it meant. His first gut reaction, the one that came from the Neanderthal part of his brain right at the back, was 'Dom no likely this. Grr'. The last thing he had meant when he'd told Jesse to run was for the kid to get Letty involved in this.

Sure he had known the kid would head directly for home he'd just never translated that into Letty making a run on Chinatown, which was a bit of an over sight on his part. His woman had never been the sort to sit contentedly at home at let the men folk go off deal with the big nasty world. Quite the opposite in fact, if there was any hell to be raised Letty would be at the head of the crowed going out to raise it. She'd never met a challenge she didn't take or a fight she'd backed down from.

And as the three cars hove into view, the Nissan in front and the Maxima and the Skyline following behind and slightly to either side, Dom had to admit there weren't many other people he'd rather have riding to his rescue. Letty was a good, all be it unconventional, knight in shining armour. She knew how to work the odds and if numbers weren't on her side she found other advantages. Letty was the type of person to bring a knife to a fist fight, believing that if you were smaller you should even the odds by making sure you were better armed.

It was as this thought crossed his mind that the voice in his head which had been jabbering wildly finally made its self heard. The cars weren't stopping, they weren't even slowing down!

The two people holding him released him hurriedly and stumbled backwards as the magenta car bore down upon them. Time seemed to stretch out like elastic and Dom found himself thinking that while he'd known there was a chance he'd end up under Letty's front wheels when they got together he'd always assumed he would have done something to deserve it. Ending up as road kill just because she couldn't find the brake in time and because restricted blood flow to the legs, not to mention a couple of hard blows to his left knee, kept him from getting out of the way seemed more than a little unfair.

As it thundered towards him, Dom suddenly decided that the front of the Nissan looked rather like a face. Letty's face at that, proving that excess adrenalin could make even the most grounded of people more than a little irrational when they thought they were about to die. Slanted almost cat like eyes, a wide generous mouth and even a couple of cute dimples all of which screeched to a stop less than five feet from him as Letty all but stood on the brake

The 240SX had only just stopped moving and Letty was throwing open the drivers door and jumping out. She had a gun in one hand and when her eyes found Dom there was something dreadfully close to terror in her eyes. It drew lines in her forehead and pinched at the corners of her mouth, and somehow managed to hurt him more than anything Tran had been able to inflict upon him. Something primal and irrational screamed its rage in Dom's chest, Letty was hurt and no one got to hurt his Letty without paying the price.

What she saw when she looked at him must have reassured her slightly though she was still clearly unhappy about the condition he was him. Her body was trembling and her free hand was clenched into so tight a fist that her knuckles showed white against her golden skin. She glanced around then all but sprinted for Tran, the expression on her face was something out of a Lewis Carroll opium induced lithium laced nightmare.

Tran just had time to widen his eyes in fear at the sight of a deranged latina with a gun in her hand before she was with in range. Dom pushed himself to his feet and watched in smug satisfaction as Letty swung the gun in a two handed grip and smashed it against Tran's temple. Unconventionally use of a firearm but effective and less hassle in the long run, the Asian went over like a fallen tree.

Lance had started to move the moment Letty had but had been taken off his feet by Vince who smacked him down like a pissed of grizzly swiping at a pesky fly. Leon had also intercepted one of Tran's hangers on who was stupid enough to think that Letty's back was a good target. Sensing rather than seeing Dom turned and planted one fist into the gut and one to the jaw of one of the idiots who had tried to come up behind him. The other would be attacker backed up, turned and met Jesse swinging a baseball bat coming the other way. At which point anyone still able to started to beat a hasty retreat.

The whole thing, from the cars coming to a holt to the last of Tran's merry band of followers taking to their heels, had taken little more than thirty seconds. Dom put one hand on the hood of the Nissan, the metal warm against his skin, and leaned against it. Now the he was up and moving his left knee had begun to throb in a decidedly unpleasant way. If Jesse noticed the injury when he sidled up, baseball bat still in hand, he thought better of mentioning it.

"I got help?" They'd ridden in like heroes out of one of Mia's trashy romance novels and saved him from a slow and painful beating yet Jesse was eyeing him nervously in case he had done the wrong thing.

"You did good Jesse," Dom said shifting his weight to try and ease the pain in his knee, which continued to throb, than added as Vince and Leon reached them. "You all did."

Jesse looked pleased by the reassurance, but the praise simply earned a noncommittal grunt and an eye roll from Leon. And Vince actually flipped him off, managing to convey with the one action that Dom was an idiot if he'd thought for a moment they wouldn't come and get him and beat Tran senseless in the process, they were family it was what they did. Dom just returned the gesture and smiled as Letty finally trundled up to them, once again making the group complete.

Her hair was coming out of its tail, her cargo pants were covered in grim and someone had managed to partially rip her shirt, though Dom could still easily read the word inscribed upon it. He smiled at her, kind of messy, kind of crazy and yet kind of perfect with it, and said, "Always faithful, it's kind of fitting."

For a moment Letty just blinked at him as if she were somehow confused by what she was seeing, then her lower lip started to trembled. If Dom had not been so concerned at the sight of Letty on the verge of tears he would have found his friends reaction to it rather funny. They took one look at the clearly emotional girl and then all but ran for the cars. Asian thugs they could deal with but crying females scared them senseless.

Ignoring the protests from his knee Dom pulled her into his arms as the two other cars speed off, Jesse staring worriedly at them through the Maxima's passenger window. Letty tensed against him and Dom knew she would have tried to pull away if it weren't for the huge raking sob that wracked her body. She held stiff for a moment longer than simply collapsed against him, whimpering and trembling as tears skated over her cheeks. Letty was strong, fierce and proud, it was for the sake of that pride that the others had bolted so she could fall apart without them there to witness it, but she was also very human.

Adrenalin had probably started to flood her bloodstream the moment Jesse told her what had happened. She had then driven all the way from the house to Chinatown, horrors, no doubt, playing through her head the whole time. Then she'd arrived to find him bruised and bloody before finally using a gun as a blunt instrument on Johnny Tran's skull. Now the cocktail of chemicals, endorphins and pheromones that had allowed her to function through all that was presenting its bill. It was braking down and flooding her system with toxins and all they could do was wait for the poison to run its course.

Dom eased back against the hood of the car, keeping hold of the crying girl but taking some of the weight off of his leg, and then just held her while she cried herself out. He had known he was never in any serious sort of danger but if their rolls had been reversed, and Letty was the one who had been taken, he would probably have ended up as much of a wreck as she now was. That was the problem with being in love it tended to make things like common sense and logic go out the window.

After only five minuets or so of intense sobbing Letty seemed to get a grip on her self. Which was to say she pulled away enough to punch him hard in his left bicep, one of the few parts of his body which had managed to avoid Tran's ministrations, and snarled at him, "You pull a stunt like that again Toretto and I'll kill you myself."

She then pulled fully out of his embrace, as she was still holding a gun in one hand Dom didn't object, and stomped round to the drivers side door, her boots striking the ground with enough force to suggest it had personally offended her. Dom did his best to keep from smiling partly because it caused the split in his lip to leak blood and, again, because Letty was still holding a gun. Instead he limped round to the other side of the Nissan and eased himself into the passenger seat, his knee grumbling all the way.

Letty also grumbling, all be it under her breath, glared at him and the blood he was getting on her cars interior then slid the 240SX into gear and peeled out just and Tran and the rest of his unconscious cohorts started to stir. Dom thought that Letty showed great self restraint in simply driving off. If it had been him behind the wheel he would have found it next to impossible to resist the temptation to drive over one or two of the recumbent bodies first the car's suspension be damned.

They were at their third set of traffic lights before Letty felt inclined to speak to him again. Her tone was all frosty and brittle and cut like razor blades, but Dom found it reassuring never the less, Letty only bothered to be angry with people she cared about. That she cared about him was something he had never doubted, but if she was once again being acerbic it meant that the last of her fear was finally fading.

"Next time, you can sort it out yourself. I'm not dragging your ass out the fire just cus you decide to mess around with Tran. Now," Letty continued, thrusting her cell phone towards him, before he even had a chance to think of interrupting. "Call your sister, she'll be worrying herself sick."

Obediently Dom reached out and took the proffered phone, then scrolled through the contacts until he found the right number and then waited patently while it rang. Both of them knew that Letty's words were just for show, if he were ever in trouble she'd fly halfway round the world to get to him. And it went without saying that he would do the same for her.

(A/N) I have to say it took some doing but I think I managed to pull of Letty saving Dom without making it seem OOC quite well. That said I know Letty bursting into tears might seem strange, but anyone who's come down hard from a bad adrenalin rush will know what I'm talking about. And we all know this song is pure F&F and it was only a matter of time before I had to give it its own drabble.
