A/N: I know it has been a while. Thanks for everyone who has stood by me through this! It's been interesting, but hopefully, I will be able to update a bit more often!
Ryou didn't like Duel Monsters very much. It was a nice game and everything, but it was so quick, impersonal, and uninvolved. You could sit down with a random person and have a quick, 5 minute duel.
But with Monster World, everything was different. Stories needed to be created through time and effort. Characters must be chosen, shaped, and tested. A single game usually went on for hours, depending on the game, and you got to know people very well from the choices they made.
Through Monster World, Ryou felt like he understood the Spirit. It was driven, ambitious, willing to do anything to achieve his goals. Ryou was remarkably similar. If the Spirit hadn't cheated, Ryou would have said that he even approved of the Spirit's methods. After all, Atem was the source of the Spirit's rage, and this was the Spirit's way of getting over what had happened in the past.
But the Spirit did cheat, and Ryou could not accept this. He had started to accept the Spirit as a part of him, and it betrayed him. So Ryou betrayed him right back. The Spirit had allowed him a small amount of control so he was still aware of his surroundings and, in small ways, could act. So Ryou used the lessons the Spirit had given him to fill the Soul Dice with his own soul and splinter it into a million pieces
