Title: The Black Star

Author: AileenDickinson

Summary: His godfather is dead and Harry decides that it's time to cut the strings from the old twinkle eyed puppeteer, start revealing his secrets and live his life as he wanted to. There's a new star in the Black tapestry. Independent! Smart! Powerful! Harry - Character bashing- slash-

Pairings: Harry/Draco

Genre: Romance, Adventure

Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter.

Warnings: There will be Character bashing, mainly Dumbledore/Ron/Hermione/Ginny/Molly Bashing!

Slash pairing(s ?) . Don't like, don't read.

Author Notes: First of all, I would like to remind you that I'm Italian and there is a possibility that you will find spelling mistakes or the occasional wrong word, I will do my best to write correctly and double check.

Now, onto the story, I know that many love the old headmaster but personally I don't like him very much. Dumbledore will not be evil, but the greater good often makes him lose contact with reality and forget the difference between people and pawns, and the fact that everybody looks up to him like he can do no wrong does not help. Ron, Ginny, Hermione and Molly are another matter.

For those who follow my other story, Love of Legend, I'd like to say that I did not abandon the story. I found a bit of a writer's block, maybe it's because I have too many things I want to write about and no idea how to. I hope that maybe writing something else for awhile will help me.

§The Black Star §

-Chapter 45-

It was the thirty of October now and everyone was nervous and paranoid. The students could sense the tension around the adults and became nervous too. During the month they had taken all necessary precautions for the attack without outright telling them about it.

All the students were to take refuge in the previously prepared RoR, that had asked it to stay like they made it until they dismissed it so the children had a safe place without revealing the secret of the room. Professor Sprout was staying with them along with the astronomy, runes and arithmancy teachers.

The older students had wanted to fight too, but Harry would never let them on the battleflied so they had to negotiate.

They were divided into groups. The first to the astronomy tower, they would launch the first volley of spells to scatter and hopefully take a few death eaters out of the battle, after that they were to intervene only if one of their side was on the ground or they risked hitting an allay instead of a foe.

The second group was the best fighters, they would be stationed at the entrance of the castle and attack anyone who got close enough to the doors. The last one was to go outside of the RoR and protect the room and the students inside.

Their own children would be safe in the inside tower where they resided the last month. The tower itself was invisible from the outside of the castle and since designed to hold the relatives of the founders while alive it had more protections on it. Luna was charged with staying with them since she didn't like to fight and the visions she had could be fatal while on the battlefield if she lost concentration for even a second. While there she would inform them with the mirror, that had been transfigured into ear pieces for the day, if see saw anything of importance and keep a look on the castle and passages with the Marauder's Map.

Lorelai, Susan and Andromeda were the healers in charge and would wait in the infirmary for any wounded to come. All the fighters had been equipped with a portkey that would send them to the infirmary instead of having to bleed around while walking there.

The only ones who would be on the battlefield itself were the 'protectors', the professors and the aurors that Amelia sent the day before the attack under the maximum secrecy along with the minister herself.

They were all ready. Now all was left to do was wait.

Frank was at home, angry at himself for not being fit enough to join the battle. He actually wanted to go anyway but his son made him see reason. it was too dangerous in his condition and he didn't want to force his son to lose a father he just got back. Not to mention he wanted to see at least his granddaughter grow up.

He thought back to the day he finally spoke with his mother. After a week of denying her answers he told the elf to allow her entry.

When she entered the room with her head high and fuming in anger expecting to see Neville and rant to him probably, she had quite surprise finding his son there.

She had tied to hug him, overjoyed to have her son back, but he refused her.

"How can you act like that with me after the way you treated my son?" he asked in anger.

"What? The boy was weak, his magic was weak… I just tried to tough him up a bit. Have him a bit more like you. He would have never made it as an auror otherwise and.." she started to babble

"HE is not ME! He is his own person and you have no right to belittle him if he has different dreams or abilities than what you like" he told her harshly "you wanted him to be me. You didn't care if you were hurting your grandson, MY SON!"

"Don't make it bigger than it is Frank" she tried to reason

"Enough. I always knew you were demanding and too proud to admit you were wrong, but that goes over any limit. I want you stay away from me and my family. At least until you have learned to admit what you did wrong and changed your attitude. Don't look for me until then." He ordered, standing tall and strong in front of the woman who gave him life and nurtured him, but wasn't able to do the same to his precious child. He felt anything but strong at the moment, he could feel his legs aching and the argument had tired him out greatly even though short, but he would never show it in front of her.

"I am to leave the manor then?" she inquired, still too proud even in front of the rejection of her son.

"Not yet. I will send an elf to inform you should I decide to take residence there again"

After that the woman just left and he hadn't heard of her yet. He wasn't surprised, his father always said that one day the woman would drive away all that she loved because of her all commanding attitude and he couldn't fault them. He was sad that those words became true but he couldn't forgive her, not unless she showed true remorse at least.

He sighed, looking at the book that had been laying open in his lap for the last hour. He couldn't concentrate with the knowledge that between today and tomorrow the fight between dark and light would take place and that his son, all his family by blood or extended, would be out there to fight and could not come back at the end of it.

Alice had to be put under a sleeping potion because she was getting too worked up and it would probably last until the morning of the first. At times he wished he had asked for the same treatment, but he didn't want to take the easy way out.

Instead he closed the book for good and closing his eyes he prayed Mother Magic to watch over his child, over Harry, over all those fighting for the good and their families, in the day of the battle and have them all come home safe.

Halloween came and with his the decorations and the feast associated with the feast. The usual banquet had been moved to lunch, in order to have them enjoy it fully instead of having it ruined by the attack and leaving the children with half empty stomachs.

Minerva had never approved of the feasts with only sweets in it that Albus likes so much, she made sure the children at an healthy lunch, even if smaller than usual, before they pigged out on the sweets. It was a good compromise she thought and the children didn't even protest. Probably even they knew that it wasn't healthy eating only sweets and she knew more than one student who didn't like sweets at all.

In the afternoon they closed the doors of the castle so no child could go outside without permission, if they were all inside it would be easier to sound the alarm and have them safe in the quickest time possible.

Dinner came and still no trace of Voldemort. The students had been allowed to eat in the common rooms, passing it as a house party for them since the teachers were busy with something.

It was nine in the evening when the wards placed outside of Hogwarts alerted Minerva and the others of death eaters presence.

The headmistress sounded the alarm in the common rooms and the prefect led the students to the RoR, all in a neat column walking at a brisk pace, without panic or running around. They probably thought it was just another practice probably.

The aurors and the fighters went outside, and each one to his post.

The death eaters appareted outside the walls of Hogwarts and marched towards the gates ready for the final battle. Even though the gates were opened something was wrong though.

The first death eaters to try and pass them were blasted back violently, two of them dying from the collision with the trees.

The others started casting spells at the ward with the intention of breaking it by sheer force.

After some minutes it started to fail and it dispelled with a few sparks. They marched gleefully inside the grounds before stopping and wait for their leaders orders.

Voldemort walked in the head of his army and looked ahead of him. There in front of the castle were his enemies.

Clad in their usual basilisk battle robes were Harry and the others that Voldemort recognized with an angry hiss as the ones who ruined his raids and killed his followers. He would make them pay.

There in front of them was his target. Harry Potter. He looked different than after the battle at the DoM. He was now tall, muscular, his raven shoulder length hair were tied back with a ribbon, only a few strands escaping it and framing his face making his Avada Kedavra eyes glow eerily with power. He looked like a true warrior, with his battle robes and sword on the back, strong and powerful. But he was Lord Voldemort. He would kill him!

At his side he could hear the angry curse of Lucius upon seeing his traitorous son. The boy looked strong at Potter's side, the strong and tall built, the long hair braided back. He would have been a perfect follower if only he hadn't decided to betray him.

He didn't bother to give a name to the faces behind the two, they would soon follow them in death anyway.

"Are you ready to die, Harry Potter?" he asked, his voice magically enchanted to resonate in the air.

Potter just smirked and raise an eyebrow "Quite sure of yourself, aren't you Tom?"

He hissed angrily at the name and somewhere in the back of his mind he wondered how he cast the spell to enchant his voice, he didn't see him reach for his wand from his position.

He ordered his army to move forward and kill. Wanting now more than ever to wipe that smug smirk off of Potter face.

As soon as he saw Voldy give the order to attack, he gave the signal sending red sparks in the air.

From the astronomy tower the group of seventh year students from the DA started firing spells and curses at the death eaters. The first volley hit a few of them, sending them to the ground unconscious. The other spells made them scatter around, too confident to cast simple shields.

As soon as they started to spread several things happened. Loud booms resonated in the air from where a group of death eaters stepped on the explosive tablets that the twins had hidden underground. The panic started to settle in the ranks and they run around like headless chickens, some of them severely hurt from the blast.

Harry gave the signal to stop and motioned for the fighters behind them to move and start taking them out.

From the forbidden forest giants and acrumantulas were making their way towards the school. The were though stopped form the powerful wards cast on the border. They were strong enough to take on ten full grown dragons, overgrown spiders and giants were no match for it. They would be spending a lot of time pounding against it but make no progress.

Fred saw it and sent a burst of magic towards the explosive tablets he left there. Those were even more powerful than the ones used on the grounds and abundant in number, they hadn't to fear of destroying the grounds completely. The feature he liked more was that they continued to explode until there was no living thing beside them anymore.

The explosions resonated into the night until all spiders and giants were dead.

Grinning he looked back and run to his twin's side. Together they started to shoot death eaters with their guns -best invention EVER!- laughing merrily all the time, scaring who heard them.

Bill was making liberal use of his fire elemental magic. Sending whips, balls and jets of flames their way. No shield or spell could block the fire and they all fell dead around him.

Not far his wife was sending curse after curse, jumping left and right to avoid being hit and all around enjoying the battle. Just like Flitwick at the other side of the grounds, who was casting with impressive speed and shooting off chains of spells unknown to his enemies.

Charlie was doing something similar to his brother, only with less finesse. He just wanted for it to be over and done with, so he could go back to his lovely pregnant wife.

Theo was using his talent in transfiguration and fighting back to back with the headmistress, both of them commaning the suit of armors and the conjured animals against the death eaters, creating weapons to throw at them.

Severus was using every curse he knew and ever invented, going through death eaters like a knife through butter, Remus always at his side fighting with him in an impressive example of teamwork.

Daphne was showing an impressive mastery over her wind affinity, Blaise preferred using his sword to cut them up instead.

From the tower and the doors, the students of the DA were watching awed how those protectors, who should have been their age and in their year, fought with a grace and power never seen before. It was like no one could oppose to them, those who faced them all fell in front of their superiority.

More and more death eaters bodies were covering the grounds, never to wake up again.

They felt like that was a too elaborated dream, or nightmare maybe? And would wake up soon. It also seemed too easy the way they were winning.

They had seen from there how some of the aurors portkeyed to the infirmary after being too badly wounded.

The minister though was still fighting. Sirius Black dueling back to back with Madam Bones.

Down in the passage of the whomping willow some death eaters lay dead after triggering the wards of the tunnel. The same happened with those trying to break inside of Hogwarts from the passage under Honeyducks. Peter Pettigrew was among them, turned into a half burnt pile of flesh and bones, his silver hand fallen to the ground several feet from the corpse.

Andromeda, Lorelai and Susan were in the infirmary taking care of the surprising very few injuried. All of them were aurors and a seventh year who had been too close to the door and had been hit by a flying debris.

All things considered things were pretty calm for them. None of the injuries were life threatening, some more serious than others like the badly cut arm of an auror. Another inch deep and he would have lost its use for months and never have the same mobility.

"Why don't you sit down a bit Lorelai? You look a bit pale" said Susan concerned.

"I'm fine, just a bit tired from the pregnancy. And this damn morning sickness that appear only in the evening is quite annoying" she grimaced. Nonetheless she sat down a moment, even if it was to bandage a wound.

"It should last only a little more out there." Announced Andy looking outside the windows "there's only a few death eaters left and the madman"

"Good" the other two women chorused.
