Author's notes: We need a bit of fun in our lives, even in the saddest of times. So - here you go - a bit of silly fun before the serious stuff begins with Kendall.
Love you all!
Emy
The following morning Carlos found Kendall and Jeanie talking at ease while she checked Sundance - a beautiful mare with a reddish brown coat - in the very last weeks of pregnancy.
"I'll have to go to LA for a few days." Kendall said on an informative tone.
"Oh?" Jeanie asked with just half her attention to Kendall. Carlos let them speak without making his presence known just yet, as this bit of information was new to him as well.
"Yeah... Katherine needs me." Kendall spoke again. A bit of sorrow and a lot of anger in his voice. Carlos' brows shot up. Kendall calling Katie by her full name meant he was royally pissed, but from there to actually going to LA... Carlos wondered what would drive Kendall to such extent. Then he remembered how loyal Kendall was to his loved ones and it all clicked into place.
"What's wrong with her?" Jeanie asked with half a voice. Carlos could clearly see she didn't like Katie and didn't really care, but asked her question just to be nice. Kendall, however, didn't notice and Carlos felt he had to step in just as his brother was opening his big mouth to answer.
"Hey, guys. What's up?" He asked playing innocent.
"Hey, Carlos." Jeanie greeted him, relief washing off of her in wave after wave. Carlos' eyes moved to Kendall. He was so caught up in his own thoughts that he didn't notice her reaction. Instead he offered a meekly greeting in return. Carlos shook his head ever so slightly and engaged Jeanie in light conversation until she left.
When Jeanie was finally away Carlos turned to watch Kendall lean into the side of the stable and sigh heavily.
"You do realize she's jealous of Katie, right?" He asked quietly pointing over his shoulder at Jeanie's truck driving away.
"What?" Kendall's eyes snapped to him green and ablaze.
"Katie has what Jeanie wanted." Carlos shrugged. Kendall looked at him with confusion. "James?" Carlos asked moving his hand in a random pattern in front of himself. Kendall made a quiet "oh" noise. "You're so oblivious." Carlos chuckled passing Kendall by to get into the shade of the stable.
"When did you get so knowledgeable all of a sudden?" Kendall smirked crookedly at Carlos.
Carlos shrugged again. "Having a pregnant fiancee... I guess."
"Sounds legit." Kendall chuckled wrapping an arm around Carlos' shoulders. "Anyway, why are you here?"
"Why are you going to LA?" Carlos simply ignored Kendall's question.
"To bring that stupid sister of mine back home." Kendall growled between clenched teeth.
Carlos nodded in agreement. "When are you going?"
"Tomorrow..." Kendall answered thoughtfully. "Camille is handling the booking... I just had to finish up here. Make sure Jeanie sees Sundance before I go..."
"Wait... Camille..."
"Yeah. She's coming with..."
"Oh..." Carlos looked up at Kendall's eyes. "How's Logan feeling about that...?"
"Ok... why?"
Carlos shook his head in disbelief. "You can be so thick, sometimes, Kendall... Camille is leaving... Logan can't like that..." Kendall finally caught on and Carlos actually saw the puzzle pieces click together inside of his head before a small smile appeared on his face.
"Los, Logan is ok with Camille going back to LA. She'll come back. She won't risk what they have. Not again." He kept his smile on his face while lightly tapping Carlos' shoulder. "Besides, if she even gets some stupid idea, I'll be there to drag her back by her hair." Kendall chuckled. "Her and Katherine both." He hissed. "I'm sick of my brothers hurting over... them!"
Carlos chuckled nodding. "Ok."
"So, why did you come by here?" Kendall asked once again.
"Oh, that - yeah - Jo sent me to get you. You left your phone back at the house and lunch is ready." Carlos beamed up at him before grinning widely, the way he used to when they were kids and he'd get a crazy idea. "Last one at the house is a rotten eeeeegg!" He yelled and bolted from Kendall's side at top speed.
"We're not five anymore!" Kendall yelled after him, but Carlos didn't stop so Kendall finally ran after him. He caught up to Carlos right the second he entered the house screaming happily that he'd won. Kendall jumped him in a head lock, messing up his short hair calling him a cheater between laughing and panting. Carlos shoved his fingers in Kendall's side trying to escape. Kendall jumped on the spot but didn't relinquish his hold on Carlos' head until Carlos - albeit unwillingly - tripped him. Kendall fell backwards pulling Carlos on top of him in an awkward position.
"What the...?" Camille let out coming out of the kitchen to find Kendall trying to roll on top of Carlos on the hallway floor, both of them laughing like crazy children.
"He's a rotten egg!" Carlos squealed fighting to stay on top of Kendall and get a chance to run away from him.
"You cheated!" Kendall whined and fought to get Carlos back into the head lock he'd somehow managed to escape.
Camille began to laugh out loud. A full, happy laugh that soon attracted Jo, Becky and Nicole out of the kitchen where they were setting up the lunch table. Both of them stood there for a second, taking in the two fighting men, before they both joined Camille in laughing whole heartedly.
Jake came running from behind Jo. He saw Carlos attack his father and, without hesitation, he let out a war cry and jumped on top of Carlos who was now tickling Kendall into submission. Carlos fell to the floor as father and son ganged up on him.
Camille, Becky, Jo and Nicole were laughing with tears by now, the pregnant red head gently holding a hand over her slightly larger belly.
All the ruckus finally made its way to Logan's office making him come out and check it out. He saw the women of the house double over in laughter and the men fighting on the floor.
"Help. Me." Carlos gasped out from under the Knight boys. Logan shook his head, a smile splitting his face before crying out "Waaaaar!" at the top of his lungs and jumping into the pile of limbs on the floor.
