After a few more minutes had passed, the commotions and place started to quiet down, and Jack had passed out. Lovejoy and I were still conscious.
I could tell that Jack was having a nightmare from the look on his face, probably about how cold he was feeling.
"I'm so sorry, Jack," I said sympathetically.
I took of my life vest and put it on him.
It didn't seem to have any affect.
I began to cry.
He had gone through so much to save me, and this is how I repay him. I wanted to help him climb up, but he refused. I had no choice but to leave him out in the cold without a vest. It was going to be a while before his body would warm up.
"I'm so sorry," I told him again.
We got more and more desperate waiting for the life boat to come and rescue us. I was trembling.
