Chapter 12 – Faith

"So fuck your rules man, you get up you'll go down fast, I've got to release all this SHIT that has made up my past"

I looked at the caller ID on the phone. It was Sam. I ignored the ringing and went back to cleaning my house. The moment I arrived home after leaving Sam and Dean, I had ripped out my contacts and trashed my house. It had taken me a few weeks but I had almost fixed everything I had broken.

'Hey Kaylee, it's Sam. Uh… you probably don't want to hear this, but it's Dean. He's sick and the doctor said there's nothing they can do. Um… but they don't know the things we know, right? So don't worry, because I'm going to go whatever it takes to get him better. All right. Just thought you should know. I miss you. I know Dean does as well'

I listened to the voice mail over and over again. I did a bit of research and found a specialist in Nebraska.

'Kaylee?' Sam asked in shock as he answered the phone.

'There is a specialist in Nebraska. Take Dean there. He might be able to help' I said simply

'Thank you. Kaylee…' Sam started to say

'Dean won't ever accept me for what I am, Sam' I interrupted

'He has nightmares about what he said to you. I hear him talking in his sleep about that argument' Sam argued and I remain silent.

'Please… we need you' Sam whispered

'Good luck Sam' I said before hanging up. I tapped the phone on my leg for a moment.

'Fuck it!' I shouted before grabbing my bags.

….

Dean and Sam pulled up to a tent in the middle of Nebraska. I watched from a distance as Sam ran around and helped Dean stand up.

'I got you' Sam said

'I got it' Dean argued and I couldn't help but smirk.

'Man, you're a lying bastard. I thought you said we were going to see a doctor' Dean said to Sam angrily.

'I believe I said a specialist. Look Dean, this guy's supposed to be the real deal' Sam said

'I can't believe you brought me to see some guy who heals people out of a tent' Dean said annoyed

'Reverend Le Grange is a great man' A woman said as she walked past the brothers. I felt my heart ache as I watched Dean and Sam.

'I'm just here to make sure this guy helps Dean' I whispered to myself

'Come on, Sam, a faith healer?' Dean asked

'Maybe it's time to have a little faith, Dean' Sam said

'You know what I got faith in? Reality. Knowing what's really going on' Dean said

'How can you be a skeptic with the things we see every day?' Sam asked

'Exactly. We see them. We know they're real' Dean argued

'If you know evil's out there, how can you not believe good's out there?' Sam asked

'Because I've seen what evil does to good people' Dean said simply

'What about Kaylee? All she ever did was help us. Yet you cast her as being evil' Sam said and I tensed up.

'She lied to us' Dean muttered

'You lied to her. I lied to you about my gift' Sam argued and Dean sighed. I frowned.

'What does he mean Dean lied to me?' I asked myself confused. I looked back over to see Dean introducing himself to a woman.

'I'm Dean, this is Sam' Dean said grinning

'Layla. So if you're not a believer, then why are you here?' Layla asked

'Well, apparently my brother here believes enough for the both of us' Dean said as Sam grinned

'Come on, Layla. It's about to start' A woman said

'All right. Bye' Layla said to the boys.

'Well, I bet you she can work in some mysterious ways' Dean said to Sam as I rolled my eyes and Sam laughed.

They walked into the tent and I followed them inside, slipping into the crowd to remain hidden.

'Yeah, peace, love and trust all over' Dean muttered as they looked up at the camera.

'Come on' Sam said leading Dean to the front.

'What are you doing? Sit right here' Dean said

'We're sitting up front' Sam said

'What? why?' Dean asked

'This is ridiculous' Dean muttered as Sam walked him up to the second row, straight behind Layla. Sam looked around at the sick people and his eyes looked over to me. I froze as Sam's eyes locked onto mine. He was about to open his mouth but I shook my head. He looked at me sadly before nodding and turning back to the front.

'Each morning my wife, Sue Ann, reads me the news. Never seems good, does it?' The preacher named Roy asked

'No' Everyone replied

'Seems like there's always someone committing some immoral unspeakable act. But I say to you: God is watching' Roy said

'Yes, he is' Everyone replied

'God rewards the good and he punishes the corrupt. It is the Lord who does the healing here, friends. The lord who guides me in choosing who to heal by helping me see into people's hearts' Roy said

'Yeah, or into their wallets' Dean muttered to Sam

'You think so, young man?' Roy asked as the crowd went silent. I smirked.

'Sorry' Dean said

'No, no, don't be. Just watch what you say around a blind man. We got real sharp ears. What's your name, son?' Roy asked

'Dean' Dean said

'Dean. I want you to come up here with me' Roy said

'No, it's okay' Dean said

'What are you doing?' Sam asked

'You've come here to be healed, haven't you?' Roy asked

'Well, yeah, but… maybe you should just pick someone else' Dean said

'No, I didn't pick you, Dean, the Lord did' Roy explained and Dean hesitantly got up onto the stage.

'You ready?' Roy asked

'Yeah, look, no disrespect… but I'm not exactly a believer' Dean said

'You will be son. You will be' Roy said as Dean looked out at the crowd and locked eyes with me in shock before Roy placed a hand on his head and Dean started feeling dizzy. Dean sunk down to his knees before passing out. Sam and I looked on worried as Sam ran to Dean's knees.

'Dean! Say something' Sam said

'Kaylee' Dean muttered before he saw something behind Roy and then it disappeared.
