Episode 54:Rescue Mission

Gale, Kyokyomon, and Gatomon slunk around the perimeter of the hospital. After making sure the coast was clear the trio snuck inside with Gale in the lead. The trio traveled through the halls of the hospital, avoiding anybody in their way. They were almost to the group's room, when Gale heard a pair of familiar voices.

"Gale!"

"There you are!"

With a quick motion of her hand, Gale bid Kyokyomon, and Gatomon to take cover. She then turned just in time to be caught by her mother's tight embrace.

"Oh thank goodness we found you!" the woman exclaimed.

"We've been looking everywhere for you!" said her father. "We thought those monsters had gotten you!"

Gale's mother grabbed the girl by the shoulders, coming to face her. "Where were you sweetheart?"

"I was uh...hiding in the bathroom." Gale answered.

Her mother let out a small sigh. "Well...all that matters is that you're safe. But...please don't scare us like that again."

"Don't worry guys, I promise. I'm gonna head back to my room okay?"

"Alright sweetheart." her father replied. "Stay safe, okay?"

Her mother moved in to give Gale a small peck on the forehead. The pair then headed down the hall, and toward the nearest flight of stairs. Once they were out of sight, Gale let out a sigh of relief, and turned about.

"You guys can come out now."

Gatomon, and Kyokyomon slowly slid out from the behind the cover of a nearby gurney. The three then continued down the hall toward the group's room. As they stepped inside, they could see the room's five occupants all waiting with various levels of anxiousness.

"Oh my gosh!" June suddenly gasped, standing from her seat.

Before anyone could react, she rushed over to Gatomon lifting her up into her arms. The cat blinked in bewilderment, as the girl scratched gently beneath her chin.

"What a cute little kitty!"

Gatomon quickly shook off her surprise, and began to squirm in her grasp. "P-put me down! I am not some common housecat! Put me down, right now!"

June suddenly gasped in shock, and let the cat the down. "Sorry! I didn't know that you were a digimon!"

"It's fine." Gatomon replied, lightly flush with embarrassment. "Just...don't do it again."

Beside her, Kyokyomon chuckled lightly. She quickly measured him with a glare, silencing him. The cat then looked up to Gale.

"Who is she?"

"I'm June." the girl answered.

"Gatomon." The digimon turned back to Gale. "A friend of yours?"

Gale, and June both shared an awkward look. The dark haired girl then cleared her throat, before replying.

"It's...complicated."

"Is that really you Gatomon?" Chloe asked, breaking the awkward tension.

"Of course."

"But...how?" Poromon questioned, looking to the cat quizzically.

"She said, she'll explain everything once the other's get back." Gale answered. "For now, I'm gonna chill."

"Same." added her partner.

Gale quickly plopped herself down in a nearby chair, Kyokyomon soon joining her. With a bit of reluctance, Chloe and Pupumon returned to their book. Both of them still keeping an eye on the window. Derek let out a yawn, and laid back down, while his partner moved to sit on the windowsill.

As Gatomon went to find a spot of her own, June approached her. The cat measured her with a curious glance, as the girl considered her next words.

"Again, sorry."

"I said it's fine." Gatomon replied. "Just don't go touching people like that without their permission."

June nodded, and seemed to ponder for a moment. "So...can I pet you?"

After a moment of consideration, Gatomon sighed. "Fine. Just, don't pick me up. It's too degrading."

June gave a vigorous nod, and reached out to touch Gatomon's head. With a slow gentleness, she moved her hand across Gatomon's soft fur. The cat took the treatment a bit begrudgingly at first. But soon, she began to lean into the touch, and a soft purr escaped her throat.

Nearly half an hour past, before the group of eight heard the sound of a rumbling engine. Everyone looked to the window, all scanning for the source. After a few moments, a small greyhound bus came into view. It knocked over several abandoned cars in the street, before pulling into the hospital parking lot.

The bus then came to a stop, a little over a dozen people stepping out onto the black tarmac. Several members of the hospital staff came out of the entrance, moving to meet the new arrivals. They were soon ushered inside, ready to be tended to.

Out of the corner of her vision, Gale soon spotted Kiko's van moving up the street as well. She motioned her hand, drawing the other's attention. They all watched, as the van parked in an alleyway, one street down. Their friends came slinking out from within moments later, all of them circling to the hospital's rear entrance.

Gale and others didn't have to wait long, before they heard the door to their room click open. Trent, Misaki, Kiko, and their partners soon stepped through. Each of the digimon were being held tightly in their partner's arms, all of them looking visibly tired.

"What happened to you guys?" Gale asked, standing up from her seat.

"We ran into some trouble." Trent answered. "Another dark digivice user."

"Damn. How many of those guys are there?" Gale cursed.

"We'll give you details in a bit. How did you guys do? Any trouble?"

"Nothing we couldn't handle." Gale answered with a shrug.

From behind her, Gatomon cleared her throat. The cat rose from June's lap, and leapt down onto the floor.

"Not without some help of course."

"Gatomon!" Misaki exclaimed in surprise.

"How the heck did you get here?" Kiko asked, looking equally as shocked.

"Sit down, and I'll explain everything."

Over the next hour, Gatomon explained the events that transpired since the digidestined left. From what she had gathered, Alphamon had been weakened from opening the portal to the human world. He left Gallantmon in charge, giving her full command of the royal knights. Only a few days after that, Nexus captured a spy for the machine empire. They gave Nexus a grim warning of the empire's arrival, before self destructing.

An army of machines, several thousand strong soon arrived. The entire force lead by four elite generals. The first attacks began only a day after. From both the air, and the land, the machines tried to take Nexus. But each time the defenders of the city would be triumphant.

The third attack however, was nearly successful. The machines brought a large swathe of their forces to bare. Including several, powerful, ultimate level digimon. They came with everything they had, moving in to take down the cities barrier. It began to break beneath their assaults, and Nexus's forces couldn't do anything to stop them.

"I'd been injured before the battle." Gatomon stated. "So, I couldn't do anything to help. I watched on as our forces began to falter, and the barrier was about to break." She paused, touching a claw to her chest. "That was when the light came."

Kyokyomon looked to her quizzically. "The light?"

Gatomon gave a nod, and continued. "It was a warm, golden light, that seemingly came from nowhere. It gifted me with it's power, and that's when I digivolved into Angewomon."

Trent, gave Gale a curious look. She mouth the word 'later' and turned back to Gatomon.

"With my new power, I was able to heal the injured, and turn the tide of battle. It was only after the the battle, that I found the light came from Lucemon."

There was a gasp of shock from all the digidestined, and their partners. June looked to each them, with a hint of confusion.

"Lucemon? That was the half angel, demon guy you guys fought right?" she asked. "But...I thought you said you killed him?"

"We did." Trent replied. "So how the heck did this light come from Lucemon?"

Misaki suddenly gasped, as she recalled a detail of the battle. "His core! It split in two remember? Daemon took the dark half-"

"-and the light half rose up into the sky!" Punimon finished, as he remembered as well.

Gatomon gave a nod at that. "Right. The knight generals said that the light must have returned to the surface, and split apart. One of the pieces eventually finding me."

"So, there are still other pieces of this light out there?" Koromon asked.

"They seem to think so." Gatomon took a moment to clear her throat, before continuing. "The final battle came only the next day. The machines brought their entire forces to bare. We fought against them, but the machine armies generals soon arrived. They were far too strong for any us. But we held out long enough for the knight generals to come to our rescue."

"They easily matched the machines, and would have beaten them." She paused, brow furrowing. "If that 'monster' hadn't shown up."

"Monster?" Chloe asked, brow quirked.

"It was a fortress, armed with batteries of weapons. It was built upon the back of a giant digimon, the size of a small mountain. It's body was covered in chrome digizoid armor, and sent tremors through the ground as it stepped."

"Holy shit…" Gale cursed under her breath.

She, and the others couldn't even imagine such a thing. The closest Trent could think of, was Tortugamon. And even he wasn't quite as massive as that.

"We tried to fight it, but none of us could even make a dent. It kept coming, firing with all of its weapons. So, we left it to the knight generals, while the rest of us focused on the remaining army. It was total chaos after that, and I barely recall all the details. There were giant explosions, the cities shield failed, and there was a giant burst of shining green light in the sky. Through it all though, we somehow won."

Gatomon's eyes lingered over each of the gathered. "The rest of the machines forces retreated after that. I was only given a day to rest, before the general's called for me. Apparently, a rift had opened up near Nexus. One that lead to the human world. The generals knew you needed help on the other side, so, they sent me. While everyone else remained to deal with the aftermath."

She spread her arms. "And so, here I am. Ready to help in any way I can."

"Well, we could definitely use the backup." Trent said with a smile. "A lot's gone down since we came back."

Kiko suddenly rose from his seat. "You guys get her up to speed. I'm gonna go check on the twins."

Chloe rose as well, grabbing her crutches. "I'll go with you. I wanna see how Emily's doing."

With their partners following closely behind, the pair exited out into the hall.

Over the course of the next half hour, the digidestined went over the events of the last half month. From their arrival, to new their forms, and the disappearance of the people within the city. Gatomon moved to June's lap once more as they went on, the cat slowly coming to enjoy the girl's attention.

Once everyone was up to speed, the group decided to relax for the rest of the day, and plan for their next move tomorrow.

Sinclair wiped a bit of sweat from her brow, as she worked at the mechanism above. The professor lay on her back, partially beneath a small console. A set of makeshift tools she had gathered from her room lay nearby. Wires, circuit boards, and other bits of machinery lay strewn about.

She had been working away at the console since her capture. Desperately she tried to hijack the machine, hoping to use it to try, and access the main network. So far, her efforts had been fruitless, with error, after error barring her. But she continued to persevere, working away tirelessly.

After attaching one last wire, Sinclair nodded in satisfaction. With a grunt of effort, she slid out from under the console, and got to her feet. She then pressed the console's power switch, the screen before her flickering to life. With several deft keystrokes, she opened up the remote access port.

"Please work." she whispered, pressing one final key.

The professor waited with bated breath, as a small window appeared. The words 'Attempting remote access. Please wait' were displayed within the window. A small hourglass sprite slowly spun just below. After a few moments, the window suddenly flashed red.

"Access denied." a robotic voice stated.

"Dammit!" the professor growled, slamming her palms into the keyboard.

Her body suddenly sagged, as she slumped down onto the floor. She leaned backward, resting her head on the desk behind her. For several moments she simply stared up at the blank ceiling above. Lazily her hands moved into her pockets, fingers brushing along the inner fabric.

Suddenly she felt the familiar rustle of paper within. Slowly the professor pulled out the folded paper from within. It was the note, that Derek had given her only a few days earlier. She unfolded it, looking over the contents. The phone number of course was of no use, but the symbols on other hand…

"A magic spell?" she laughed humorlessly. "I suppose I don't have anything to lose."

After reading over the instructions, Sinclair moved over to a nearby desk. She opened one of the drawers, reaching inside to pull out a permanent marker. With painstaking care, the professor copied the strange symbol on the sheet of paper onto the back of her hand. She then let the ink dry, before looking over the instructions one last time.

"Press the center of the star. Focus on the person you want to contact. Envision them in your mind." she read aloud.

Sinclair took in a breath, pressing her finger on the star's center. She closed her eyes focusing on the image of Derek. She slowly recalled the details of the boy's appearance. From his spiky brown hair, to his foggy grey eyes.

"Please, work."

June slowly awoke, sitting up with a groan The girl had fallen asleep in the group's room, using one of the spare mattresses. She tried to move her legs, but felt a weight pushing them down. With a glance, she saw the sleeping form of Gatomon. The cat sat curled up at the foot of her bed, body slowly rising, and falling.

With a small smile, she reached out, and scratched between the cat's ears. A soft purr began to rumble from the cat's throat with each breath. The girl then lifted her hand, and with great care, slipped her legs out from under the sleeping digimon.

She then slid out of bed, and looked about the room. Everyone else was still sound asleep. Kiko's twin brothers had joined him last night. One of the boy's snoring on either side of their older sibling. Likewise, Emily had done the same. With Pupumon held tightly in her arms, the girl rested in her sister's grip.

June moved to the nearby window and looked out. The first rays of the sun were beginning to peak past the horizon. Their soft golden light bathing the empty city in their glow. Long shadows were slowly cast, stretching from the hollow forms of buildings, and abandoned vehicles.

The girl shuddered slightly, as she looked upon it. It still felt so surreal, even now. Like something out of a chilling horror movie. Every time she looked at it, she half expected to wake up, to find it at had all been a nightmare. Her parents would be there waiting for her, like they always were. Ready to comfort, and reassure her in any way they could.

June hugged her shoulders tight, and sniffled. A lone tear rolled down her cheek, and stained the neck of her shirt.

"Good Morning." a voice softly whispered.

June jumped slightly in surprise. She quickly hid her face, wiping her tears, before turning to the source of the voice. It was Gatomon, sitting atop the windowsill, on all fours.

"Morning." June eventually replied, holding back another sniffle.

Gatomon cocked her head, ear twitching. "Are you alright?"

"Yeah I'm just-" She paused, letting out a heavy sigh. "Oh who am I kidding? I'm barely keeping it together. I'm literally in the middle of a pre apocalypse!"

Gatomon could see the girl was shaking now. The beginnings of tears were starting to form around her eyes. Not really knowing what to say, Gatomon acted on her first instinct. She moved closer, and gently brushed her cheek against June. It was a strange sensation for her, offering such comfort, to a near complete stranger. But something within her, compelled her to do so.

June sniffled, and picked the cat up in her arms. Gatomon snuggled close, purring softly. The girl hugged Gatomon tight, and began to rhythmically pet her head. The combination of the repetitive motion, and Gatomon's warmth, had a calming effect. After a few moments, her shuddering began to slow, only a few tears falling.

After finally calming herself, June stood silently for several moments. Gatomon was quiet as well, scanning the hospital's surrounding area through the window.

"I shouldn't even be here." June sighed, finally breaking the silence.

Gatomon blinked, and looked up to her. "What?"

"I mean with them." June replied, gesturing her head toward the others. "It's not like I'm their friend or anything. Gale tolerates me at best, and I know her partner doesn't like me. The others might as well just be strangers. I'm just hanging around them like some lost puppy dog."

June squeezed Gatomon a little tighter. "And even if they were my friends, I wouldn't deserve them."

Gatomon freed herself from Junes grasp. She then leapt onto the windowsill, turning to face her.

"Why would you say that?"

June avoided her gaze. "Cause I've done some awful things. I treated someone like they were barely a person. And even after all that, she helped me. I never even really thanked her." She squeezed her eyes shut. "I'm nothing but a selfish bitch! I'm such scum."

"You're still young." Gatomon said. "There's still all the time in the world for you."

June sniffed, and looked to her in confusion. "What?"

"Do you want to thank this person? Do you want their forgiveness?"

"Y...yes."

"Then do it. Give them your gratitude." Gatomon continued. "That's the easy part. Getting their forgiveness however, depends on them. Sometimes no matter how much you apologize, you can never make up the things you've done to someone. But, you have to try."

Gatomon looked downward sadly. "Because if you wait too long, there's a chance they might be gone before ever got to tell them how you feel."

June reached out, but hesitated. "You lost someone?"

"I've lost lots of people." she replied. "The digital world is a harsh place. Especially if you're a wanderer like me." Gatomon looked up once more. "Life's too short. Take your chances to be kind. Keep trying to be a better person."

"Do you really think I can change? Make up for what I've done?" June asked hopefully.

"Are you willing to try?"

June gave a hearty nod.

"Then you've taken the first step." Gatomon smiled.

June couldn't help but smile back. "Thanks Gatomon."

"Of course." the cat nodded.

June finally extended her hand, and scratched between Gatomon's ears. Suddenly, a flash of light engulfed Junes arm. June jumped back in surprise, staring wide eyed at the shining light. When it faded, a d-brace was left in its place. It's body was a shining white accented with gold. The digicode ring in the center, was written in deep purple letters.

"What, the hell!?" June gasped, looking over the device curiously.

"A d-brace!" Gatomon exclaimed. "Do you know what this means?"

June turned to her, shaking her head in confusion.

"We're partners."

Before June could even process that new information, she heard Gale suddenly begin to stir. The girl rose groggily, rubbing her eyes.

"Whats with all the noise?"

June chuckled awkwardly "Oh, um that was me, sorry."

Gale made a few incoherent grumbles, and slowly rose out of bed. As she stood up, her eyes shot wide open. She then spun about on June, zooming in on the girl's arm.

"June...is that what I think it is?"

"Yes, its a d-brace." Gatomon answered stepping forward. "June, and I are partners now."

"Oh." The gears turned in Gale's mind for a few moments, before her eyes went wide. "WHAT?!"

The group was not happy to be so rudely awoken. But decided it was time to get up anyway. There was of course a big fuss over June, and her d-brace. Several members of the party were quick to congratulate the pair. June didn't fully understand the whole situation, but tried to take it in stride. The only one seemingly not happy about the turn of events was Kyokyomon. But the dragon kept his displeasure to himself.

After the round of congratulations were over, everyone sat down to breakfast. Thanks to Trent's mother they were able to sneak in double portions. So that everyone would have their fair share.

In the middle of his meal, the spell circle upon Derek's hand suddenly flashed. He blinked in surprise, and looked around the room.

"Alright, which one of you is the practical joker?" he asked, holding up his hand for all to see.

All of his companions shared a look of confusion.

"It's not any of us." Trent said, shaking his head.

"Then who could be-" Suddenly Derek's eyes widened in realization. "The professor!"

Derek quickly pressed the center of the circle. There was another small flash, as blue energy poured forth from the magical mark. It solidified, forming into a perfect holographic image of Professor Sinclair. All the digidestined, and their partners let out gasps of utter shock.

"Professor!" Derek exclaimed.

Sinclair seemed to blankly stare for several moments. She then closed her eyes, and looked upward. As if thanking whatever divine force was watching over her.

"It worked! It actually worked!" she exclaimed, letting out a small chuckle.

"Professor." Derek repeated, grabbing the woman's attention.

"Oh! Sorry." she apologized. "I just honestly didn't think this 'spell' or whatever would actually work. I've been trying to get a message outside for the last few days."

The group of chosen twelve, all soon gathered around the hologram. Forming a circle around the professor's flickering form.

"Professor can you tell us where you are?" Trent asked. "What happened to you?"

Sinclair took a moment to collect herself before replying. "Right, of course. I'm in, what I assume to be, Daemon's base of operations. During the fight in front of the apartment, Alastormon showed up, and escorted me back here. Daemon then said he needed to keep me here so that I would be 'safe' from you. He's basically keeping me prisoner here."

"Where is this base?" Punimon asked.

"That...is a bit of a complicated answer."

Gale crossed her arms. "Please, enlighten us."

Sinclair adjusted her glasses. "Alright, I'll try to keep this as simple as possible. You see, our world, and the digital world, are not the only planes of existence. There are potentially an infinite number of universes. One universe in particular is situated in between our world, and the digital world. Although it is not a universe in, and of itself. More of a quasi reality, or pocket dimension that bridges the two universes."

"So, like a buffer zone between the two realities?" Misaki asked, putting a finger to her chin.

"Very astute young lady." Sinclair nodded, genuinely impressed. "This space in between spaces is better known as cyberspace. A vast reservoir of information, and data. We humans are able to access it through the internet. It is where Daemon has made his base of operations."

"So, how the hell are we supposed to get there?" Gale asked, voicing the obvious question in the air.

"My dimensional gateway." the professor supplied. "It's the fruits of all my research. It allows travel between other planes of existence."

"That's fantastic! Where is it?" Trent asked excitedly.

"In my laboratory at the institute." Sinclair suddenly frowned. "Unfortunately, you won't be able to use it. It is incredibly complex, and requires precision calculation. If the portal is not properly calibrated, you could end up in a completely alternate universe. Or worse, have your bodies torn asunder, atom, by atom."

"Oh, lovely." Gale remarked with a grimace.

"Then we have to rescue you." Botamon quickly suggested.

"Yes, but we can't do that without the professor's portal." Punimon quickly snapped. "Which we can't use, without deadly risk."

"A catch twenty-two." Misaki remarked with a frown.

Trent pondered for a moment, before an idea struck him. "Professor, have you heard about any other prisoners being brought in? Anything like that at all?"

Sinclair furrowed her brow in thought. "I do recall overhearing one of the guards mentioning something. They said they were moving large groups of humans to this base, then transferring them to a special location. But, I don't really know the details."

Trent snapped his fingers, in a sudden 'aha' moment. "All the captured people! That's how we get in!"

Chloe looked to him confusion. "I'm not sure I follow."

"Darkdramon, and his goons were capturing any stragglers right?" Trent asked, turning to her. "Well they can't be the only ones searching. So, what if one of us acts as bait and gets captured. While the others follow after. Then, they can lead us right to their base, so we can sneak in and save the professor!"

"That's not a bad plan." Chloe said thoughtfully.

"There's one problem." Derek stated, drawing everyone's attention. "All Daemon's soldiers know who we are. They would try to kill us on sight, not capture us."

"Damn. Your right." Trent cursed brow furrowing.

"I'll do it."

Everyone turned about, looking at June in surprise.

"I'll do it." she repeated. "I'll be the decoy."

Gale stood up, shaking her head. "Uh uh. No way."

"But I want to help!" June argued. "My parents got captured by that freak Daemon! If there's anything I can do to help get them back, then I'm gonna do it!"

"Its way too dangerous." Chloe stated standing up as well. "You barely have any idea what you're dealing with. You could get yourself killed."

"So could you!" June snapped back.

"Yeah, but we have partners to protect us!" Gale retorted, gesturing to Kyokyomon.

Gatomon quickly moved to stand by June's side. "And now, so does she."

Both Gale, and Chloe opened their mouths to retort, when they felt a hand upon their shoulders They turned, to see Trent standing between them..

"Let's give her chance." he said, looking between the pair. "She might be our best shot at saving the professor. Once we get her back, we'll have a chance to be end to all of this."

Chloe, and Gale considered his words for several moments. They looked to June, and the resoluteness in her eyes. Then, with great reluctance, they both gave a single nod.

Trent nodded back, and turned to the others. "Anymore objections?"

The others shook their heads in reply.

"Alright then, consider yourself rescued professor."

"Please, be careful." the professor sighed. Suddenly the woman jumped as she heard noise from outside. "I have to go. I hear the guards coming. I'll be in touch."

The hologram then disappeared, Derek's magic circle going dark.

"The professor is gonna be in for a wait." Gale sighed. "None us are at full strength right now."

"I can help with that." Gatomon stated. "Gather around me."

All six digimon moved to encircle the cat. Once they were all in position, Gatomon closed her eyes, bringing her hands together. She focused, calling to the new light within her core. Her body began to glow, an aura of light pouring off of her. For a brief moment, the aura shifted in shape, taking on the vague form of Angewomon. The energy then released outward, creating waves of warm, cleansing light.

All of the partner digimon were bathed in the shining radiance. They felt invigorated as the light washed over them, filling them with strength. Each of them were then encased in white light, as they digivolved. Kyokyomon, Puroromon, Koromon, and Poromon, all digivolved to their rookie forms. While Punimon,, and YukimiBotamon were transformed into their in-training stages.

Each of the tamers felt the residual waves of energy. All of them were similarly invigorated by it's power. Both, Derek, and Chloe were even able to stand on their own once more.

The light then slowly faded, the room suddenly feeling cold with its absence. Gatomon opened her eyes, and took several deep breathes. The strain of her ability suddenly catching up with her.

"Are you alright?" Ryudamon asked.

"Fine." she replied. "I've just never used it without digivolving first. I should be okay."

"Amazing." Chakoramon gasped, looking herself over.

"So, who's going on the mission?" Trent asked, after several moments of silence.

"Chakoramon, and I for sure." Derek said, taking a moment to stretch his legs. "Since we can turn invisible, we have the best chance of sneaking through Daemon's base undetected."

"We're going to." Chloe stated, moving her crutch aside. Beside her, Fanbeemon gave a nod of agreement.

"I'll go." Gale, and Ryudamon said in unison.

Trent gave a nod. "Alright. Its settled. Me, Huckmon, and the eight of you will head out into the city. While the everyone else, stays here, and protects the hospital. Now, we just need to go over the plan."

"We've been waiting here for two hours." Gale groaned, propping herself up against a nearby wall.

She, and the others stood around in an abandoned clothing store. Ryudamon was at her side, as usual, wearing a frown. Trent, and Huckmon were across from them, standing on either side of a display window. Derek, and Chakoramon were hidden by one of the windows as well. Both of them watching the outside intently. Chloe, and Fanbeemon were over by the entrance, occasionally scanning out of the clear glass doors.

"We knew this wasn't gonna happen right away." Chloe said, approaching the girl. "Just try to be patient."

She grabbed a small box off the windowsill, and held it out to Gale. She then popped it open, revealing several different varieties of donuts inside.

"Want one?"

Gale looked at the pastries dubiously. "Where did you even get those?"

"There was a cafe next door." Chloe answered. She then took a bite of one of the sweet treats "They're are a little stale, but they taste okay."

After a few moments of consideration, Gale shrugged, and grabbed a jelly donut from within. Chloe then closed the box, and moved to join Fanbeemon by the entrance once more.

Outside, June performed a small circuit around the block. She looked about cautiously, searching for any signs of enemy digimon. Up on the rooftops above, Gatomon watched her closely. She kept herself hidden at all times, muscles tensed, and ready to spring into action at any moment.

Gale took a lazy bite of her donut, as she watched June pass by her vantage point. She then glanced beside her, noticing the slightly sour look on her partner's face.

"What's got you in such a mood?" she asked, wiping a bit of jelly from her lip.

"We're on a possibly dangerous mission." Ryudamon replied. "I think I'm allowed to not exactly be in a good mood."

"Don't give me that crap." The girl gestured to herself with a thumb. "You're not the only one who learned how to read their partner. Somethings bothering you."

Ryudamon let out a small sigh. "It's...it's not important. We're on a mission, and we need to focus right now."

"I hate to burst your bubble, but there's not a whole lot going on right now. I think we can maybe spare a minute or two." She took another bite of donut. "Come on, I'm all ears."

Ryudamon paused for a moment, before answering. "How are June, and Gatomon partners? Its doesn't make any sense! They're nothing alike!"

"Oh, so that's what it is." Gale said with a nod. "Well, I remember you telling me that Chloe said something similar about us."

"That-" Ryudamon struggled with his words for a moment. "That's not the same!"

"Isn't it?" Gale retorted quirking a brow. "Look, I think there's something a little off about it too. But, so far, when a digimon, and a human become partners, they seem to be the right fit." She paused for a moment. "I mean, excluding all those people who've been trying to kill us these past couple of weeks."

"I suppose so." Ryudamon sighed. "I just can't help but worry."

Gale's lips curled into a mischievous smirk. "Worried, or jealous?"

Ryudamon gave her a nasty glare. "I am not jealous."

"Whatever you say." Gale shrugged, taking the last bite of her donut.

After fifteen more minutes of waiting, Trent let out a heavy sigh. He then stepped out of the storefront, grabbing June's attention.

"Alright, we're gonna move on." he said. "Let's try a different spot."

"Can I take a break first?" June breathed. "All this walking is starting to hurt my legs."

After allowing June a twenty minute break, the group moved to another location, a dozen blocks down. Trent, and the others took cover in a deli. While June began her new circuit, and Gatomon climbed up to the rooftops once more.

June circled the block four times, before she heard the flap of leathery wings. She quickly looked upward, spotting the approaching form of a Boogeymon. Gatomon, Trent, and the others spotted him as well. All of them quickly taking cover as he neared.

"Well, well, what do we have here?" the devil sneered, as he landed.

June backed away in fear. The purpose of her mission suddenly forgotten.

"If you know what's good for you. You won't go running off." The Boogeymon stepped forward, and produced a pair of energy shackles. "Now, be a good a little human, and let me put these on. If you don't cooperate, I'm going to use a little persuasion." He gestured vaguely with his pitchfork.

June swallowed a lump in her throat, legs shaking. Then, with a deep breath, she stepped forward, holding out her arms. The Boogeymon smiled at that, and without ceremony slapped the shackles onto her wrists. June held back a hiss of pain, as the cuffs snapped on tightly. A chain of light than extended from middle of the shackles, and fell to the ground.

"Come on." the Boogeymon growled, picking up the length of chain. "Let's get you to your new home."

The demon pulled sharply on the chain, making June stagger forward. He then took to the air, and began to fly forward. After several awkward steps, June was able to match his pace, and follow.

As she was lead up the street, she spared a single glance behind her. Out of the corner of her vision, she spotted a shadow form on the rooftop. As well as the forms of the others, as they rushed to follow.

For a almost twenty minutes the group trailed after June. The Boogeymon was completely oblivious to their activities. He kept his eyes forward, and his pace quick. Intent on reaching his destination in good time, wherever that may be.

Dark clouds rolled in as they moved. They seemed to appear out of nowhere, blocking out the rays of the sun. A thin mist soon followed, pooling on the ground, curling around buildings, and vehicles.

After a time, they neared a large office building. It was nearly forty stories, and made of gleaming metal, and glass. June, could see several Boogeymon stationed nearby. All of them standing guard, pitchforks at the ready.

June was suddenly distracted, as she heard a distinctive chirp. She looked about, thinking it was some sort of signal from the others. Soon, she spotted several dark shapes, hanging from the eaves of a nearby building.

They were bats. Dozens of them. All with shimmering red eyes, and fang filled mouths. The sight of them made June shiver in fear, and quicken her pace. The creatures watched her silently, red eyes unblinking.

"I got a live one!" the Phelesmon exclaimed, as he approached his comrades.

"Didn't think you'd actually find one." one of the other demons replied.

"Yeah, thought you were gonna come back empty handed." another snickered.

"Hey, don't you patronize me!" the first one snapped. "You got the easy job. Standing around just looking at empty space!"

"Hey, you try standing around with that freak watching you!" another retorted. He took a quick glance around. "He's got eyes everywhere."

"Yeah, yeah, whatever. I'm gonna take this brat through the portal."

The Boogeymon gave a hard tug on the chain, pulling June forward. He lead her past the guards, and into the alleyway before them. At the end of the alleyway was a small lot of concrete. Another pair of Boogeymon stood at attention near the center of the lot.

As June neared, one of them moved off to the right. He seemed to reach out to thin air, but his hand touched something solid. He flipped an invisible switch, and the air before him suddenly crackled with electricity. As the arcs of lightning faded, a large mechanical device suddenly came into being.

It was a biomechanical console, with a pair of screens. Attached to the console by several thick wires, was a giant metal ring. Within the ring, was a swirling portal of blue energy.

The Boogeymon leading June gave another hard tug of the chain. Soon she stood only several feet before the shimmering portal. Her captor gave her a gentle prod with his pitchfork, urging her forward. Just as her foot neared the threshold, a shadow leapt from a nearby building.

"Lightning Paw!"

With a clang, the energy chain was snapped. The energy shackles around June's wrist, then flickered out of existence. She sighed in relief, and looked over at her savior.

"Thanks."

"No problem." Gatomon replied.

For several moments, the three Boogeymon gaped at Gatomon's sudden arrival. Then they all charged, pitchforks at the ready.

She nimbly leapt over them, striking one in the head with a flying kick. As he staggered forward, she leapt toward one of the others, thrusting forward with her claws. They pierced into his chest, and he let loose a howl of pain, before scattering into data.

Suddenly the shout of several attacks sounded at the other end of the alleyway. Cries of pain, and shouts of dismay followed. Clouds of data then rose up into the sky, just before Trent, and the rest of the group came rushing into the alleyway.

The remaining Boogeymon were soon dealt with, all bursting into shimmering particles.

"Nice work guys." Trent said, sheathing his blade.

"Wooh. That was like, way too close for comfort." June sighed, holding a hand to her heart. "You guys seriously do stuff like this all the time?"

"Pretty much." Gale smirked.

"My, you took care of that lot quite quickly."

Ryudamon quickly looked about. "That voice…"

"Show yourself!" Huckmon growled.

From the eaves of the surrounding buildings bats fluttered out. Dozens gathered together, forming into a large swarm. Their chittering noise, filled the air, creating an ear splitting cacophony. Slowly they began to form into a vaguely humanoid shape. All of them then morphed into a blood like liquid, and with a flash of energy solidified into the form of GranDracmon

"It's you!" Trent exclaimed, drawing his blade once more.

GranDracmon gave a dramatic bow. "I see you recognize me. No doubt from my recent performance." He stood stall, mouth curled into a smirk. "Would you like an autograph perhaps?"

"Who the hell are you?" Gale demanded, getting her digivice at the ready.

"I am known by many titles." the vampire answered, gesturing to himself. "The King of Vampires. Lord of the Undead. Ruler of the Night." He smiled, baring his dagger like fangs. "But, you may call me GranDracmon."

Trent moved subtly closer to Derek, and Chakoramon. "Derek. You, and Chakoramon go on ahead through the portal. We'll hold this guy off."

"Are you sure?" the other boy whispered back.

"Yeah. You two have the best chance of sneaking in without getting caught. Now, go."

The pair nodded, and Derek called to his inner power. As he felt the energy flow through him, he touched a hand to Chakoramon. The two briefly flashed with purple light, before completely vanishing from sight. June gasped at their sudden disappearance. She looked about frantically, as the pair leapt into the swirling portal.

"My, what a neat little trick." GranDracmon smiled, sounding slightly amused. "I suppose I'll just have to go after them, once I've taken care of you lot."

"You wouldn't be the first one to try." Chloe retorted, getting her digivice at the ready.

All three digidestined and their partners were soon bathed in their respective colors. Gatomon followed their example, her body bursting into shining light. With a flash of four colors, Jesmon, TigerVespamon, Gaioumon, and Angewomon appeared.

GranDracmon smiled, and floated up, stopping an inch above the ground. He then flew backward at high speed into the open streets beyond the alleway. The partner digimon all followed after him. Their human companions trailed behind, taking cover behind a line of abandoned cars.

As the four digimon came out into the open, they spotted GranDracmon standing in the center of an intersection.

A few yards away from him they could see a man. He was devilishly handsome, with sharp features, and a piercing gaze. He wore sharp designer clothes, and had perfectly coiffed hair. Pulsing on his arm was a dark digivice, a green sigil shining within.

GranDracmon raised a hand, and ran one of his claws along his palm. It sliced deep into his flesh, crimson red, liquid data came dripping out. It shone almost like pure energy, faintly crackling with power.

"Sanguine Will!"

Suddenly the stream of data poured from the wound in a deluge. It nearly made June throw up in disgust. GranDracmon gripped onto the stream, the data solidifying into a tangible energy. It formed into a long whip, still crackling with power.

With a quick motion, GranDracmon lashed out with the whip of blood. The four partner digimon dodged out of its path, its energy cutting a deep gouge into the street.

Gaioumon drew his blades, leaping toward the vampire. GranDracmon whipped upward, meeting the humming blades with his whip like energy. With another swift motion, he cut into his other hand, summoning another crimson whip. He then lashed out with it, wrapping it around Gaioumon's leg.

With subtle push of his will, long hard spikes sprouted from the end of the whip. They peirced deep into Gaioumon's leg, making him cry out in pain. GranDracmon then tossed him aside, sheathing the spikes, and sending him careening into a street lamp.

Jesmon, and TigerVespamon came charging in together, blades at the ready. GranDracmon quickly brought his hands together. He willed the crimson whips of data to change shape, and they coalesced into a single orb. The orb then spread out rapidly, creating a wall of energy, formed of crimson hexagonal plates.

There was a flash of energy, and blood colored sparks, as the two megas struck the wall. With a subtle motion of GranDracmon's hands, a ripple moved across the wall's surface. Suddenly giant spikes sprouted from the wall like blades. Jesmon, and TigerVespamon barely reacted in time, leaping backward, to avoid a full body impalement.

Angewomon soared over the shield, summoning forth her bow. "Celestial Arrow!"

The arrow of rainbow colored light rocketed downward. With a giant flash, it exploded against the vampire's back. He let out a hiss of pain, part of his back beginning to sizzle, and smoke. With growl of anger, he looked up to the angel, making another motion with his hand.

"Sanguine Will!"

The shield of energy burst into smaller crimson shards. They quickly began to twist, and warp, forming into new shapes. Soon, the crimson energy had taken on the form of two dozen bats. With another hand motion from their master they flew upward, swarming around Angewomon.

The angel cried in dismay, as the bats encircled her. With claws, and fangs of energy they cut into her. She struggled against them, kicking, punching, and swatting at any within reach. But they were too fast, and began to overwhelm her.

"Rinkazan!"

GranDracmon turned just in time, to see Gaioumon's arrow hurtling toward him. The phosphorescent projectile struck his shoulder, sinking into his flesh. He looked to the arrow, and without ceremony, tore it free. A small wound was left in its wake, leaking crimson data.

"Sacred Flame!"

With a great exhale, Jesmon unleashed a wave of searing white fire. GranDracmon took to the air to avoid, and summoned forth another stream of crimson data. He lashed out with it, slashing across Jesmon's chest. The knight felt searing electricity course through him, as the whip made contact, and sliced along his armor.

TigerVespamon raised her arms, as the whip lashed out. Her cannons flipped outward, firing a swift stream of laser fire. GranDracmon swept the whip toward the oncoming barrage of lasers. The energy solidified, forming into another wall.

TigerVespamon quickly ceased her fire, and flew upward at top speed, A contrail of blew energy was left in her wake as she rocketed toward Grandracmon with her blades. The vampire crossed his arms, willing his blood to surround his hands. It quickly took on the shape he desired, forming into crimson claws of energy.

Blue, and red trails of energy cut through the air, as the two megas unleashed a flurry of slashes. The two energies mixed as they clashed, creating flashes of purple electricity.

The clash continued for several moments, until TigerVespamon feinted on one of her attacks. GranDracmon fell for the bait, leaving him open for a slash to the side. TigerVespamon's blade dug deep, leaving a long gash along GranDracmon's rib.

GranDracmon let out a hiss, and thrust forward with one of his claws. From the tips each of his fingers, the energy blasted forward, as five streams. TigerVespamon was blown back by the strike, five holes now drilled into her armor.

As Jesmon moved to engage the vampire, Gaioumon leapt toward Angewomon. He unleashed several slashes, careful to only harm the bats. With their numbers slightly dwindled, Angewomon was finally given an opening to retaliate. She brought her hands together, light surrounding her form. Then with a cry, she spread her arms, unleashing a burst of light. The crimson bats were all burned away, dissolving into black acrid smoke.

"Thank you." she breathed.

"Consider it thanks for yesterday." Gaiuomon replied.

Angewomon nodded, and brought her hands together once more. Six orbs of light quickly surrounded her, all humming with power.

"Heaven's Charm!"

The orbs of light released their energy, as six streams of light. Gaiuomon quickly followed up her attack with a trio of arrows. All nine of the long range attacks quickly hurtling toward GranDracmon.

GranDracmon caught one of Jesmon's blades with his whip, and tossed the knight over his shoulders. He waved his other hand before the oncoming attacks, summoning forth a crimson barrier. There was a grand explosion of light, and energy as the attacks struck, the barrier barely holding against the onslaught.

In that same moment, Jesmon flew upside down, over GranDracmon. The knight quickly gathered his bearings, and opened his maw wide. With a loud rushing noise, a blast of white hot flame struck GranDracmon's back, burning the same spot Angewomon's arrow had struck.

GranDracmon staggered forward from the attack, gritting his teeth in pain. Then with a smile, he turned to each of his enemies.

"It seems I'll actually have to try. Consider yourselves lucky, for you are about to witness the true form of the lord of the undead."

With a snap of his fingers more bats flew down from the sky. They swarmed around him, transforming into a cocoon of black energy. After several moments, the cocoon cracked like an egg, and split open. As the two halves fell away, GranDracmon's new form was on display for all to see.

His entire lower half had been replaced by the body of a beast, giving him a tauric appearance. The beastly body was covered in shaggy red fur, and had digigrade legs. His feet, were giant paws, each tipped with four sharp claws. Two large bat wings spread from his back, and a blonde, horse like tail grew from his lower half. Finally, growing from the front of both thighs, was the head of a monstrous beast. They were shark like, and eyeless, their gaping mouths filled with two rows of razor sharp teeth.

GranDracmon crossed his arms with a smile, as the others looked upon his new form in horror. He chuckled, and gentle pet one of the beastial heads below him.

"Much better. Now, shall we continue?"

The two invisible forms of Derek, and Chakoramon looked about, as they came through the portal. They were in a giant room with a high ceiling. The familiar biomechanical wires, pipes, and consoles of Daemon sprouted from the white walls. Small cracks could be seen around some of the structures. As if the the black machines were some parasite, or mold, infecting the majority of the structure.

On either side of them they could see more portal rings lined up on the walls. There were over a dozen, each one with its own console. At least two Boogeymon stood by one of the portals, weapons at the ready.

Finally in front of them, at the far end of the room, were three sliding doors. One leading straight ahead, another going right, and other heading left. Two more Boogeymon guards stood nearby them.

Before the pair's invisibility wore out, they rushed toward the door straight ahead. The two Boogeymon felt a rush of wind as the two passed by. They then watched with confusion as the door beside them, opened, and closed on its own.

"Stupid thing must be on the frits." one of them said with a shrug.

"Wouldn't be the first time." the other grumbled. "The one in sector b has been acting weird the last few days."

Derek, and Charkoramon sprinted through hall before them. They then turned down the nearest corridor, taking refuge in some sort of storage closet. Once safely inside, Derek dropped their cloak, and let out a heavy sigh.

"That was a bit easier than I thought." Derek breathed.

"The hard part's just beginning." Chakoramon reminded.

His partner gave only a nod in reply.

After taking a moment to catch his breath, Derek held up his communication circle. He focused, bringing the image of professor Sinclair into his mind. It took several seconds, before the circle flashed. The professor's holographic image then appeared above it.

"Professor. Chakoramon, and I have made our way in."

"Excellent." she took a moment to look around. "Where are the others?"

"They're being held up by one of Daemon's commanders." Chakoramon answered. "They sent us on ahead."

"I see." Sinclair sighed. "We'll just have to make do I suppose. First, I need you to find an access terminal. I can instruct you on what to do from there."

"Got it." Derek nodded. "We'll get back in touch as soon as we find one."

With a press of a finger, Derek ended the call. He then turned to Chakoramon the pair sharing a nod.

After making sure the coast was clear, the duo slunk out of the closet, and into the hall. Derek followed his partner's lead, keeping to any available shadows. They turned down another pair of halls, before coming to a set of sliding doors. A security panel sat nearby, opening as the two approached.

As they considered their options, there was a hiss, as the doors began to slide open. The pair quickly ducked into a nearby corner, as a pair of Boogeymon walked out from within. Without missing a beat, Derek and Chakoramon rushed through the doors as they passed. The doors then closed behind them, with the demon's none the wiser.

The two now found themselves in a long circular hallway, almost like a tube. Unlike the other parts of the base, it was entirely untouched by biomechanical machines. The smooth white material was broken up only by tubes of blue data, and the occasional porthole.

As they made their way through the tube, Chakoramon took a glance out one of the portholes. She quickly did a double take. Her eyes widened, beak hanging slightly agape at what she beheld.

"Derek...look."

Derek paused mid step, and turned about to move to his partner's side. He looked through the porthole as well, a similar look of shock coming over him as well.

"Holy…"

Outside, they could see the vast white void of cyberspace. Far off in the distance, they could make out gargantuan rings of code. Some of them encircling white islands, like the ring around a planet. A school of strange digital lifeforms suddenly flitted past the window. Several of them even paused there to observe the pair curiously.

The creatures had a strange shape, almost like a mantaray, mixed with a sea slug, and an eel. Their forms flickered, similar to a hologram, For a brief moment, they were almost transparent, allowing one to see their inner workings. It was almost like a circulatory system, made of circuit like patterns, that occasionally pulsed with energy.

After several moments, the creatures took their leave. They quickly picked up speed, moving to catch up with the rest of their school. All of them soon becoming nothing more than a blob of color in the distance.

After snapping out of their wonderment, Derek, and Chakoramon moved to the door at the end of the hall. Luckily this one had no security panel, and let them in without difficulty.

They came to a medium sized room, mostly composed of biomechanical machinery. Only a few bits of the white material peeked through the cracks. Lining the walls were several large, tube like containers. Each of them filled with some form of energy. Three more doors lead out of the room, each one heading in a different direction. Finally, in the center of the room was a large console, connected to the various machinery in the room.

Derek quickly moved to the terminal, Chakoramon walking slowly behind him. As Derek called up the professor once more, Chakoramon watched the room's doors closely.

"Professor, I found a console. It was in some sort of energy storage room." Derek stated, as the professor's image appeared.

"That should be fine." Sinclair replied. "Most of the computers in the facility are connected to the central system. Now, I'm going to have you access the facilities map, so that you can figure out your location, relative to my own."

"Alright, just tell me what I need to do."

Sinclair carefully instructed Derek on the use of the terminal. Once the basics were gone over, the map was easy to bring up. Derek couldn't help but let out a gasp, as he beheld how large the base was. It was even larger than the Dark tower.

"From the looks of things we're in sector C right now." Derek sated, after scrutinizing the map.

"Good." Sinclair nodded. "Now I want you to enter in Sector D, Room D12 in text box in the upper right. The computer should then show you the quickest route there. Then, if you click on the room, if should open an information window. Within it should be the passcode for the room."

With a few keystrokes, Derek did as he was bade. The map then zoomed in on his location. A red line then traveled from it, twisting down halls, and others passages, and ending up at their destination. He then opened up an information window, several lines of text appearing. After scanning it for a few moments, he found the passcode information. Derek then quickly whipped out his phone, and snapped a few photos.

"All right. We got it professor. We're on our way." Derek then ended the call, and turned to his partner. "Come on Chakoramon we're outta here."

The bird nodded, and the pair took off toward the rightmost door.

"Feel the cold of undeath." GranDracmon announced, holding up his hand. "Crystal Revolution!"

With a swipe of his claw, a wave of deep dark cold was sent forth. In its wake giant crystalline ice spikes rapidly rose from the ground. Cars, and pieces of the street. were flung to the left and right, as it surged forward.

The four partner digimon all moved to grab their tamers, leaping or flying to the top of the nearest building. As they were set down, the humans dared glance below. Bits of concrete, and tarmac were everywhere, scattered amongst the path of ice. They could even make out the line of cars they had been taking cover behind. One of them even impaled atop one of the icy spikes.

"Holy shit! I almost died!" June shrieked.

"Welcome to the club." Gale deadpanned.

"You guys be careful." Trent said, looking up at the digimon. "It looks like he wasn't kidding about showing his full power."

Jesmon gave a nod at that, and dived back down toward the street. The other three digimon soon followed him, all of them coming to land behind the vampire.

"Sacred Flame!" Jesmon called, unleashing a gout of white fire.

Despite his new bulk, GranDracmon was able to spin about to face the attack. With a swipe of his hand, he sent forth another wave of icy crystal. The two attacks soon collided with a loud hissing noise, unleashing a giant explosion of steam.

Gaioumon, and TigerVespamon leapt through the steam cloud. They came at GranDracmon from either side, their weapons humming with power. The vampire was ready for them however, and aimed his two beastly heads toward the pair.

"Death Scream!"

A deafening noise filled the air, as two black blasts of sonic energy erupted from the beast's mouths. It was an unholy cacophony of thousands of souls shrieking in torturous pain. The humans above the battle nearly dropped to their knees, as the sound reverberated through the air. Lines of windows shattered as it traveled, sending out sprays of broken glass.

TigerVespamon, and Gaioumon were each struck by one of the sonic blasts. They felt red hot pain bore into their skull as the sound overloaded their ears. Cracks spread along their armor, and they felt as if their very bones would shatter into dust. The force of the sonic attack then sent them flying backward, bodies skidding along the broken street.

Angewomon quickly flew over to their fallen forms, and held up her hands.

"Halo Of Light!"

A burst of golden energy radiated from her palms, and washed over the two megas. Slowly their wounds began close, the cracks in their armor sealing up. They felt a warmth course through them as it did, making their entire bodies tingle.

As Angewomon tended to them, Jesmon moved to engage GranDracmon. He soon summoned forth At, Rene, and Pol, the three spirits appearing in flashes of flame.

GranDracmon snapped his fingers as they approached. With a flash of dark energy, five floating eyes appeared around him. They were yellow, with black sclera, and had a slitted pupil.

"Gorgon's Eye!"

At his command, a beam of crackling red energy fired from each of the orbiting eyes. Jesmon, performed a deft roll to dodge. One of the beams still struck the top of his shoulder, breaking away a piece of his armor. As he fell behind, he willed At, Rene, and Pol, forward, the three spirits soon picking up speed.

GranDracmon dismissed the orbiting eyes, and summoned a pair of red energy whips. The three spirits dodged the first few lashes, and began circling above the vampire. Every few moments one or two of them would dive bomb down, attacking with their blades. While they scored a few good slashes, GranDracmon found them to be nothing more than a nuisance.

Up above the battle, Chloe and the others watched. As the blonde focused on GranDracmon, something caught her eye. She called on the power of her sigil, the world around her soon bathed in a yellow hue.

Her vision zoomed in like a telescope, zeroing in on GranDracmon. Something appeared off. After a few moments of focusing, realization dawned upon her. His wounds were healing. It was happening slowly, but it was still noticeable. They were almost completely healed, save for one.

The one one on his back. Where Angewomon had struck him with her arrow. It had begun to heal as well, but far more slowly.

After turning off her power, Chloe quickly relayed this information to her companions.

"Oh great, not this again." Gale groaned.

She briefly recalled their battle with Lucemon. Though GranDracmon's healing seemed a far cry from Lucemon's near instant regeneration.

"But why is it only AngeWomon attacks that affect him like that?" Trent asked.

"I have no idea." Chloe answered with a shrug.

"It's because he's a vampire!" Gale exclaimed, after several moments of thought.

His three companions turned to her with curious stares.

"Oh, come on! You guys have to have seen at least one vampire movie!" Gale exclaimed. "Vampires hate holy symbols, and light. Can't think of anything more holy than an angel."

"That does make sense." Chloe nodded. "As crazy as it is."

Trent suddenly turned to June. "You have to give AngeWomon a boost. If she and the other's can keep hammering GranDracmon, they might just overcome his healing."

June quickly turned toward him, eyes widened. "A boost?! What? How the hell do I do that?"

"You have to focus, and feel the connection between you, and your partner." Chloe answered, holding a hand to her heart.

"Yeah, it's like this, thread that keeps you connected." Gale added. "You can kinda feel energy moving along, it back, and forth."

"It's like a steady stream." Trent continued. "The two of you sharing a consistent flow of energy. But...if you focus on it, you can strengthen the flow. Give them just that little bit of a boost they need."

"I'll...I'll try."

June watched, as Trent, Gale, and Chloe closed their eyes, holding their d-brace's to their hearts. She could see their sigil's shine within, a faint aura surrounding them.

After taking in a breath, she followed their example, eyes closing tight. For several moments she heard only the beat of her heart, and saw only darkness. She continued to focus, eyes screwing tighter, and tighter.

She was about to cry out in frustration, when she felt a faint thrum. June continued to search, feeling the thrum several more times. Soon, it was a steady beat, almost in sync with her heart. Through that sound, she felt a warmth. The same comforting warmth that filled her when she held Gatomon.

She focused in on the connection, and with every ounce of concentration she could muster, willed a surge of energy through it. It flowed through the bond like a wave, and suddenly filled AngeWomon with energy. The mysterious sensation gave her pause, as the power coursed through her.

Soon the other partner digimon felt that rush of energy as well. All of them reveled in it, feeling the strengthening presence of their partners.

"Hit him with everything you got guys!" Trent shouted at the top of his lungs.

"Don't let up!" Chloe added.

Gale raised her fist. "Take him down!"

June looked to each her companions, and down to her partner. "Go, Angewomon!"

The healing light around Gaiuomon, and TigerVespamon dissipated, and the two stood tall. Angewomon did the same, feeling emboldened by her partner's energy. Jesmon shrugged off his shoulder injury, and dismissed At, Rene, and Pol. With the three spirits gone, GranDracmon could turn his attentions back to the four partner digimon.

Derek, and Chakoramon leaned out from the corner of a hallway. Several yards down the hall they could see the door to their destination. Standing by the doors were a pair of Boogeymon guards. Lurking nearby however, were a trio of observation drones, yellow eyes continually searching.

The duo ducked behind the corner once more, Chakoramon turning to her partner.

"Just give me a cloak, and I'll handle them." she stated, face resolute.

Derek gave a single nod. "Alright, just be careful."

She nodded back, and held her wings at the ready. Derek took that as the signal, and placed a hand upon her. With a bit of focus, he channeled his sigil's power. Then with a flash of purple, his partner disappeared from sight.

As soon as the invisibility kicked in, Chakoramon leapt into action. She rushed down the hall, and swept her wings, in three swift arcs. A trio of wind blades flew through the air, each one striking an observer drone. The black creatures were quickly sliced in twain, their bodies dissolving into data, and smoke.

Before the two Boogeymon could even react, Chakoramon swooped toward them. With several powerful, and deft strikes of her taloned feet, she knocked them unconscious. Then as she came to land, she unleashed a flurry of blades upon their fallen forms. Their bodies then quickly burst into shimmering data.

She let out a heavy exhale, her cloak finally dissipating.

"You never fail to impress." Derek smirked, rushing over to the door.

"I try." she replied.

Derek quickly moved over to the doors security panel. He checked his phone, and typed in the passcode he received earlier. With a small beep, the light upon the panel turned green, and the door slid open. Derek, and Chakoramon then slipped inside.

"Professor?" Derek called, looking about the space.

The pair quickly spotted the woman pacing about the room. She turned with a start, a look of obvious relief washing over her features.

"Oh, thank goodness." she sighed. "You don't know how happy I am to see you." She made a move for the door. "Now let's get out of here, and to the nearest portal."

"Professor, wait." Derek suddenly.

Sinclair turned about to face him, Chakoramon glancing up at him curiously.

"What is it?" the woman asked.

"Can you tell us more about the conversation you overheard?" Derek questioned. "The one about the captives being moved?"

"I didn't catch all the details." she answered. "But from what I could gather, it sounded top priority. Information like that would be kept in the main terminal."

Derek's brow knit, mind pondering over this new information. After several moments, he finally spoke up once more.

"Professor, could you help us get to this main terminal?"

Sinclair's eyes widened. "What?!"

"Derek what are you talking about?" his partner asked, looking almost as shocked.

"Professor, the captives they were talking about, are people from the city." Derek said, meeting the woman's eyes. "Most of Houston is completely empty. Entire families, just gone!" His hand curled into a fist. "Even some of our families."

"Derek…" Chakoramon frowned.

"We plan on rescuing them." Derek continued. "But to do that, we need more information. And if the main console holds all Daemon's important data. There could also be something in there about whatever he's planning. If we're going to stop Daemon we're going to need every advantage. This is a perfect chance!"

He paused, and gave the professor a pleading look. "Please, Professor, help us try to end this."

Sinclair was taken aback for a moment, letting the words sink in. She considered them very carefully, mulling them over in her mind. Then after several moments, she closed her eyes, and let out a sigh.

"Alright. I'll help you get to the main terminal."

Derek cracked a small smile. "Thank you Professor."

"But, if I get captured again, I am holding you responsible." she warned with a pointed finger.

"Fair enough." Derek replied. "So, how do we get to the main terminal?"

"First we need to find an elevator. If we take it to right floor, it should leave us right at one of the control's room's entrances." Sinclair put a hand to her chin thoughtfully. "The problem is getting into the room without being noticed. It is under constant surveillance."

"Leave that to us." Chakoramon supplied. "We can get in without being detected."

"If you say so." Sinclair sighed, already regretting her decision.

The woman moved over to her a nearby desk. It was littered with computer parts, circuit boards, and notes. After searching through the mess for several moments, the professor found what she was looking for. It was a flash drive like device, made of biomechanical metal, and circuitry.

"This should help get what you need."

Derek looked it over, as she place it in his palm "What is it?"

"It's a device I was able to cook up. It should get you past any security in the terminal, and allow you access to the information you're after. After that, the device will download it directly. I was going to use it to escape, but unfortunately it doesn't do much if it can't connect to the bases computer systems."

"You were able make something like that in only a few days?" Derek asked incredulously.

"And, out of spare parts?" Chakoramon added.

Sinclair adjusted her glasses, straightening proudly. "I was able to make a portal capable of interdimensional travel, with only colledge grant level funding. Do not underestimate me."

"Point taken." Derek conceded.

With the professor now in tow, Derek, and Chakoramon moved out once more. They carefully crept through the halls just as silently as before. After turning down a pair of halls, they were able to find another access terminal. Sinclair quickly worked her magic, finding the location of the nearest elevator. As well as the access code for the main terminal room.

They all moved to their new destination with a cautious speed. Once along the way they had a close run in with a roaming patrol. Thanks to Derek's ability however, the were able to arrive at the elevator with little difficulty.

After entering their destination, the elevator quickly shot upward. It only took several moments for them to arrive. Ahead of them now was a short hall, leading to a single sliding door. Just like many of the other doors in the facility, a security panel was on the side.

The professor soon tucked herself in a small corner behind the elevator. She then ducked low, keeping her body in the shadows. With her now hidden, Derek, and Chakoramon made their way over to the door's security panel.

The pair took in a steadying breath, as Derek activated the power of his sigil. As the two were cloaked in it's power, Derek typed in the security code. The door slid open, and the two quickly slipped into the main command room.

They took a quick cursory glance around the room. Off to their right they could see several Boogeymon working away at computer stations. If the demons had noticed the mysteriously opening door, they made no show of it.

Derek, and Chakoramon then moved to one of the only unoccupied stations. Derek pulled out Sinclair's device soon finding a usb like port. With it clicked into place, Derek performed several keystrokes, as per Sinclair's instructions.

A small loading window soon appeared on screen. As the bar slowly filled, Derek, and Chakoramon could see files being opened in the background. They flew by like a blur, from blueprints to inventory. All of it becoming an unintelligible mess.

The two suddenly turned, hearing a door slide open behind them. Their eyes widened in shock, as they spotted the armored form of Alastormon stepping through. Beside him was the knights partner, his dark digivice on full display.

Derek, and Chakoramon's breath hitched in their throat, as the demon scanned the room. Chakoramon then took up a battle stance out of instinct.

Alastormon simply stood, surveying the work of his subordinates. After several moments, he made a move toward the central elevator. He paused however, sensing something was amiss. With his hand upon his blade, he turned back about, scanning the room once more.

Derek chanced a glance at the progress bar, noting it was at seventy-two percent. He swallowed, his heartbeat quickening. He could feel the power of his invisibility running out. Every muscle in Chakoramon's body tightened, waiting with bated breath for the knight's next move.

The Boogeymon working their stations soon noticed Alastormon's tense stance. They all shared a quick look of curiosity before one finally spoke.

"Uhh...is there something wrong...sir?"

After several moments, the knight's sword grip relaxed. He then turned to his subordinates.

"No, its nothing. Carry on."

Alastormon then spun about, he and his partner stepping into the main elevator. With a soft rushing noise, they descended, disappearing from sight. The Boogeymon all shrugged together, and turned back to their work.

Derek allowed himself a sigh of relief. Chakoramon mirrored him, falling out of her battle stance. They then turned back to the computer terminal before them. It took only a few more seconds, before the information completed downloading.

Derek snatched up the device once more, and rushed out the door they came in. The moment it closed behind them, the boy dropped their cloak. He heaved a heavy sigh, breathing ragged, and a bit of sweat dripping from his brow.

"Did you get it?" the professor asked, as she came out of hiding.

Derek simply held the device up with a smile, still trying to catch his breath.

After the boy recovered, the the trio rushed toward the elevator. They backtracked the way they had come, passing through halls, and passages. After having another close call with some Boogeymon, they reached the doors to the portal room.

With a deep breath, Derek called upon his sigil power one last time. The three were then cloaked in his invisible field, and burst through the doors. They sprinted across the room at top speed, the portal in their sights.

Derek's cloak began to flicker as they were only few steps away. The Boogeymon guards barely had time to register their appearance, before they leapt through the portal.

Gaioumon leapt into the air, landing atop one of the nearby buildings. He ran across the rooftop, forming his bow. TigerVespamon flew across from him, readying her blasters. From both sides, the two unleashed a barrage long range fire. Arrows, and beams of energy flying at GranDracmon.

The vampire shielded himself, summoning forth two crimson barriers on either side of him. The barrage of projectiles hammered against the barriers. Ripples began to form across them, as they warped, and buckled beneath the onslaught.

"Royal Meister!"

"Rinkazan!"

The two megas both came at the vampire, charging through the air. The weapons connected with the two barriers, sending out flashes of energy. With that last push, they finally shattered into crimson shards. The remaining momentum of the two mega's attack carried them forward. Each of their blades cut a deep gouge into GranDracmon's tauric body.

He howled in pain, and called forth two whips of crimson. With swift swipes, he lashed out with them like a whirlwind. TigerVespamon, and Gaioumon were blown back by the wild attack. Barely stopping themselves from crashing into two nearby buildings.

As GranDracmon made a move for a follow up attack, Jesmon charged straight at him. Each of this three blades began to glow, and a contrail of energy followed in his wake.

"Iron Sword Judgement!"

"Crystal Revolution!" GranDracmon cried.

A wave of cold was sent forth at his call. Spires of crystalline ice then rose from the earth, hurtling toward the oncoming knight. He did not slow, crossing his two arm blades as he approached. A roar escaped his throat, as he charged through the approaching ice. Like trees, all of them were felled in his wake.

When he finally reached his target, he brought down all three blades. They cut into the vampire's flesh, creating six intersecting wounds across his chest.

GranDracmon willed his data to flow from the wounds. It quickly turned into crimson energy, forming into long crackling tendrils. All of them grabbed Jesmon tightly, then smashed his body into the ground, creating a crater in the broken street.

With Jesmon down, Angewomon had a clear shot. She opened her bow, and summoned an arrow of light. June's energy flowed into the projectile, doubling it in size.

"Celestial Arrow!"

With a loud twang, the arrow was let loose. A corona of white energy surrounded it as it soared through the air. A contrail of sparkling light being left in its wake.

GranDracmon held up both hands as the arrow neared. It collided with both his palms stopping the attack. His teeth grit, as he tried to push back the attack. Soon he began to feel the power of the holy light. His skin began to bubble, and sizzle, before starting to peel away. The energy slowly started to travel up his arms, more bubbles forming along his skin.

With a final grunt of effort, he shattered the arrow into pieces. Shards of holy light then scattered into the air, raining down like glittering snow.

"Impudent rats!" the vampire howled, looking at his wounds.

Off to the side of the street, his partner, raised his d-brace. The sigil within flashed with power, and a dark green aura surrounded him. The same aura soon encompassed GranDracmon, his crimson energy combined with it, swirling like chaotic flame.

GranDracmon's healing kicked into overdrive. All the wounds Jesmon, TigerVespamon, and Gaiomon had inflicted now beginning to close. Even Angewomon's attacks were healing, though still at a slower rate.

Jesmon finally rose to his feet, as the energy appeared. He flew back, gaining some distance on his enemy. TigerVespamon, and Gaioumon readied themselves. Then together they charged the vampire, bringing their weapons to bare.

GranDracmon summoned more whips of energy, infusing them with his aura. The four megas then began to clash. Red, crackling energy whipped in all directions. Blades of energy, and metal were swung with great force. A flash of sparks, and crimson electricity arcing outward when they clashed.

As Angewomon watched the four mega's clash, her eyes roved over to GranDracmon's partner. She could see the the parasite ripple, and pulse, as more energy was transferred into the vampire.

An idea suddenly formed in her mind, and she sheathed her bow. She took in a steadying breath, and charged forward at top speed toward the man. Out of the corner of his vision, GranDracmon's spotted her, and lashed out with a whip. At the last possible moment, Gaioumon jumped into the attacks path, blocking the whip with crossed blades.

As Angewomon neared GranDracmon's partner, she brought her hand's together in prayer.

"Halo Of Light!"

A burst of warm light poured off of Angewomon, creating a ring of gold. The dark aura surrounding the man tried to fight it back, but was quickly dissipated. With nothing to shield him, the man was bathed in the warm glow. Along with the parasite.

The dark creature let out a gurgling cry, as it was bathed in the light. Almost like boiling tar, it began to bubble, and sizzle. Red veins spider-webbed across its eye, as it too began to burn. Then, with an almost inaudible 'pop' the creature was dissolved into black smoke, and data. From the cloud, a core engraved with a green sigil, floated into the sky.

As the man fell to the ground, GranDracmon reached out with his claw. He grabbed Angewomon by the middle, and hurled her with all his strength. She went careening through the air, crashing through a nearby building, before stopping.

"Angewomon!" June shouted.

GranDracmon then howled, unleashing the last of his partner's energy as a burst of darkness. The three megas around him were blown back by the attack. The aura around the vampire then dissipated, his newfound strength leaving him.

The vampire lord heaved, as he surveyed his new situation. The three other megas were now standing back to their feet, readying themselves. There was still a slim chance he could win this fight. If he treaded carefully, and paced himself, he could come out victorious.

But that was a gamble he was not willing to take.

"Well played." he said, with a small smile. "Let's continue this another time. Farwell, chosen ones."

With a flash of red light, the vampire transformed into a giant swarm of bats. They quickly scattered in all directions. Before flying up into the sky, and disappearing from sight.

The three megas all relaxed, dropping their guard. TigerVespamon then took off toward the fallen Angewomon. As she helped her to her feet, Gaioumon, and Jesmon brought the humans back down to street level.

When TigerVespamon, and the angel returned, both of them dedigivolved. Without hesitation, June rushed toward Gatomon, lifting the cat into her arms.

"Oh, my god! Are you alright?! Are you hurt?!" she exclaimed, examining Gatomon like a concerned mother.

"I'm fine! Please, put me down!"Gatomon answered, as she tried to escape June's grasp.

Beside them, Chloe picked up Pupumon in her grip, watching the display with a chuckle.

Within the nearby alleyway, Derek, Chakoramon, and Sinclair all stumbled out of the portal. After catching their breath, they moved to the street. All of them gasping at the destruction before them. Derek then spotted his companions down the street, and shouted to gather their attention.

The others all turned, many of them waving back, as they spotted the trio. The two groups then rushed to meet each other. All of them overjoyed that hey had succeeded in their mission.

Author's Notes:

Guys, I'm incredibly sorry if I've been making you wait on this one! I wanted to get at least one more chapter of Battle for Nexus done before starting this chapter. Anyway, I'm not totally happy with this chapter. It ended up being a little bloated. I think I tried to do too much in one episode. I think there were a couple scenes I could have cut. Anyway, the next chapter is gonna first part of the finale. Please look forward to it guys! And as always thanks for reading!
