School had dragged on longer than usual in the last week. Although things had been going well for us recently, we had been anticipating the summer too much and so it was taking its time.
Johnny had dropped out of school, and he did physical therapy a few days a week then on the other days he'd take tutoring from Ponyboy in the afternoons. He was going to sit his high school certificate exam sometime in the near future so Pony was helping as much as he could. I was gearing up for my new job, and waiting for Dal to get out. I was used to spending lots of time with Ange and whenever we had problems we'd always spend time together working it out, or bitching about our problems. But she was getting ready for the baby, seeing as it was due in a little over 6 weeks she was really focused on that. I didn't bother her too much, even though I had a lot on my plate and I really needed to talk to her. It was funny to see Ange so focused on this and working so hard towards a goal, she was usually the sort of person who just went where the wind took her and didn't care where she ended up.
Currently I was listening to one of the teachers wrapping up the 'time of our lives' speech at the final assembly. I was mainly thinking about Dally though. I couldn't concentrate on anything other than the fact that I'd hopefully get to see him sometime next week. They wouldn't give him a solid date for some reason, something to do with the court signing off on his release papers. Usually they'd see Dallas Winston on the paper and shove it to the bottom of the pile so it could be a while.
I was still off in my own little world when everyone started getting up and leaving the auditorium to head out to the car park. School was over for the final time! The seniors were all high fiving and excited. But for me and Ange it wasn't really that big of a deal, nor was it a big deal for Two-Bit, given that this was the 2nd time he'd played this game.
Everyone started filing out of the auditorium and I could see Tommy heading towards me through the crowd. He was staying on to do his senior year in the hope that he'd get into a decent college, somewhere outside of either Texas or Oklahoma he'd said. He hadn't spoken to me since our little chat last week, I was mainly avoiding him as I had no idea what he'd meant. But he hadn't made any effort, until now, to seek me out. So I'd left it at that.
I let Two-Bit and Ange move on ahead and stayed back a bit so Tommy could catch up to me.
"So excited you're finally finished?" He gasped as managed to push through the last of the throng.
I shrugged. "S'pose I guess. Start fulltime work now so not really."
He laughed. "Yeah I forgot about that." He looked me up and down. I was wearing a nice denim skirt and had a loose fitting plaid shirt on which was tied around my waist, it was summer after all. I ignored his sly look and carried on walking.
"So what are you up to tonight Blue? Fancy hitting the Dingo?"
"Dunno really, was going to see if Ange wanted to do something."
"Ah cool, well if ya'll wanna do somethin' that'd be great. It'd be good to do somethin' all together. I like hangin' around with all you guys."
He seemed genuine, and I did feel bad that without us he'd probably have no one to hang around with all summer.
"Ok cool. Well come on over to Two-Bit's car with me and we can head back to my place."
"Alrighty, should be a good night, we gotta celebrate the end of school after all. Well for you anyways."
We made our way slowly towards the end of the car park where all the Greasers parked up and I spotted Two-Bit's car, I wondered briefly for a second who was leaning against the car alongside Two. Then I realised. It was Dallas.
I forgot all about Tommy and bolted towards Dally, who was as cool as ever wearing his leather jacket, cigarette in mouth. He spotted me coming and threw his butt down on the ground and stomped it out before accepting my running-jump/hug. The hug part didn't last very long before we found each others lips, and I'm sure I could hear whispering and feel the stares as we forgot where we were for a moment. I finally broke away when I heard Pony's protests as he walked up to join us at the car.
"What are you doin' out early babe?"
"What? Ya not happy to see me doll? Don't worry 'bout it." He smirked at me before stiffening up as Tommy made his way over. Rambling on about dinner tonight. He stopped when he clocked Dally glaring at him.
"Oh, you must be Dallas. Hi I'm Tommy." He held out his hand anxiously. Dallas eyed him up, ignored the offer of a handshake but acknowledged Tommy's presence and said hello back, before immediately turning his attention back to me.
"So wanna split babe?" He gave me a wink.
"Uh sure." I laughed at the expression on his face but he pointed to the T-Bird next to us. I'm guessing it was one he got from Buck. He lead the way as Two-Bit gave me a nudge before telling us 'kids, to be careful'. Tommy looked slightly disheartened but I apologized and told him we'd all do something another day. He just shrugged and accepted Two-Bit's offer of a ride.
"So where we goin' babe?"
"Somewhere quiet I s'pose." He seemed to be back in his element, behind the wheel of a fast car, sunglasses on and music up. "So what was you and Tommy gunna do tonight?"
He looked slightly stiff as he asked that question. I chose to give a nonchalant answer, hoping he wouldn't read too much into Tommy's disappointment. "Ah nothin' much babe. We were all just gunna go out to the Dingo." I slid along the seat closer to him. "But this is a much better offer."
He winked and slid his hand up my leg. By the time we finally pulled over the tension between us was unbelievable. We were back at the park just on the outside of town. We'd been here before a couple of times, a lot of people would come here from time to time with their girlfriends. But we had the place to ourselves as usual.
Naturally we couldn't keep our hands off each other; it had been a long three months, especially for Dally.
"You have no idea how much I've missed this." I gasped between kisses.
"Ha, after those letters you have no idea." He swung my leg over so I was straddling him and before long his tshirt was off along with my shirt.
I couldn't help but stare for a second, Dally was always pretty muscular, nothing compared to Darry or Steve, but I guess there's not much to do in jail except work out. So his usually defined muscles were now chisled, I guess… sounds a bit weird to say but he definitely wasn't as wirey as he used to be.
He clocked my expression and chuckled. "Like what you see?"
"You are a cocky shit aren't you?" I punched him on his arm jokingly before moving back in for another kiss.
Things certainly picked up from there, we had a lot of catching up to do. I don't know if it was because of how much we missed each other, or if I'd just forgotten what it felt like, but things were certainly better than I remember. Not that things weren't good before, hell they were amazing, but I guess this time I could really tell how much Dally missed me.
Finally when we broke for breath things calmed down. I rearranged my skirt and bra and grabbed my shirt off the dashboard. Dally just grabbed a smoke, pleased with himself as usual.
"You are so not going back in for a long time."
He chuckled again. "Don't worry babe, I don't plan on it." He winked at me before offering me a smoke.
