Hello, lovelies! Hard to believe that it's nearly Christmas, so, in case I forget, I'm going to do a Christmas one shot for "Eternal Flame." Then, I'll do one for "Stolen Moments," the new drabble series I just started. Anyway, I appreciate all the reviews and support! It means a lot to me!
It's that time, Christmas time is here
Everybody knows there's not a better time of year
Hear that sleigh, Santa's on his way
Hip, Hip Hooray, for Christmas Vacation
Caroline smiled as she put the finishing touches on the tree. It was getting to be that time of year again, the time of year that she loved the most, Christmas. She had been looking forward to it for months, and now that it was upon her, she couldn't wait to make everything look festive. She had just placed the star on top when she felt a familiar presence.
"I thought I told you to wait until I was done decorating?"
Klaus smiled at her. "You know that I never do as I'm told, love."
"Unfortuantely, yes," she replied. "As long as you're here, you can make yourself useful by putting the manger up. I'd do it, but I still have a few wreaths that need to be hung."
Klaus nodded. "As you command, Caroline."
Caroline shook her head and, after he went to set up the manger, she went to hang the wreaths. Getting the ladder from the downstairs closet, she went to put the first wreath up and as she did, she felt the ladder getting wobbly, and it fell out from underneath her. Caroline closed her eyes as she fell backward, bracing for impact.
However, when she opened her eyes again, she saw that she wasn't on the floor, like she thought she would, but in Klaus' strong arms. It wasn't that she wasn't grateful for him coming to her aid like this, which she was, it was just that she didn't think that the ladder was going to do what it did.
"Are you all right, love?"
"I am now, thank you," she replied. "I just...wasn't expecting that to happen."
"Then, it's a good thing that I disobeyed you, isn't it?" said Klaus. "If I didn't, I probably wouldn't have come to your aid like that." He smiled. "Perhaps I should hang the rest of the wreaths. Wouldn't want my girl to take another fall."
"What about the manger?"
"I already finished it," said Klaus. "That's when I sensed that you were in need of my assistance and I came running." He kissed her softly. "And you know that I'll always come to your aid."
Caroline returned his kiss as he stood her back up, deepening it a little. She then looked up to see if there was any mistletoe hanging above her and was disappointed when she didn't see any. Damn it, and that would've been perfect, she thought. Then again, I suppose that it wasn't necessary. I think Klaus found an excuse for giving me that kiss.
Klaus then reluctantly broke the kiss and looked into her blue eyes with his greenish blue ones before shooing her away so that he could go about hanging the other two wreaths. Knowing that he had his task well in hand, Caroline decided to go into the kitchen to check on the cookies that she had put into the oven. She was greeted by the sweet aroma, indicating that they were just about ready. Licking her lips, she took the tray out of the oven, and placed the freshly baked cookies on a plate on the counter. They looked delicious and she felt tempted to sample a bite. Of course, she stopped herself, since they didn't have any frosting on them yet.
Caroline then grabbed some green frosting and began to decorate the cookies. As she went about her task, she saw that they looked even better than they did when they came out of the oven. She was still decorating when she felt Klaus embracing her from behind, smiling at how affectionate he was being.
"I take it the wreaths are hung?"
"They are," he replied. "I even took the liberty of hanging some mistletoe in the hallway, since I saw that you were disappointed at not seeing any earlier."
"Klaus, you really didn't have to do that," said Caroline. "I appreciate the effort and everything, but..."
Klaus waved his finger at her. "No buts, love."
Caroline discouraged herself from making another protest. After all, he was only trying to make this an enjoyable Christmas for them. No sooner did she do this than she felt him tugging on her arm and escorting her out to the hallway, where she saw that he had indeed hung a sprig of mistletoe. Shit, was there nothing this man couldn't do? True, he was an Original, and Originals were capable of just about anything, but still, this was impressive beyond words.
Another smile on her face, she pulled him closer to her and kissed him. Klaus gladly returned her kiss, smiling against her lips. After a few minutes, they stepped back, breaking the kiss, looking into each others' eyes, just like earlier.
Note: Can't think of anything else to put here and I don't want to risk sounding redundant, so I'll end it here. As I mentioned in my first note, this is a Klaroline Christmas one shot for "Eternal Flame." I'll be working on the one for "Stolen Moments" next. Merry Christmas, lovelies!
