The khaki brown expanse of the circular airstrip grew further and further away as the plane gained altitude. Elaine smiled contentedly as she glanced at her and Severus's entwined hands.

"I've loved this holiday, but I am so glad to be going home," she said, laying her head on Severus's shoulder with a sigh. "Do you think the cats have missed us?"

Severus squeezed her hand gently and closed his thick book with a snap. "Of course. My only concern is the current state of the neighborhood."

Elaine shivered, remembering the reason for the Paris holiday in the first place.
