ATTENTION PLEASE READ!
Hello my little babies. I just finished another fan art for this story. It's just one of Darcy in an Elsa-esque pose, but she's clearly Darcy and not Elsa. The skin isn't colored again, but I think I like it better that way. The link will be in my bio shortly. I also have nearly completed a piece that was inspired by someone's review that suggested that I draw Seamus and Darcy getting drunk or drink butterbeer...so I did. It's pretty funny.
I hope you like this chapter. It's going to be mostly about Darcy's power (the origin, the new things she can do, the consequences, and some...unexpected warning). I think it's going to clear up a lot of questions any of you have about what Darcy can do.
I reread the scene between Snape and Darcy from the previous chapter. I realized how much I love their relationship. I think it's really cute.
I'm dedicating this chapter to LoveYourself845 for being supportive and convincing me to get back to work on my other fanfic, Looking for a Future. You're awesome.
I hope you enjoy this chapter!
Chapter Fifty-Four: Year Five
Icy Origins and Renewed Friends
Sitting by the fire one evening after classes, I worked diligently on my Transfiguration homework. Fay and Seamus worked quietly beside me. We all jumped when someone came into the Common Room.
"Miss Finnigan." It was McGonagall. "Professor Dumbledore would like to see you in his office. You'll find that Dumbledore enjoys Acid Pops."
I stood immediately and left the Common Room without question. I had been expecting this. Dumbledore hadn't contacted me at all about another lesson yet. Maybe this was it.
I reached the giant gargoyle and said, "Acid Pops." It moved so that I could go up the spiral staircase to his office. I knocked three times and waited until I heard,
"Come in."
I went into the office and looked around. Everything was the same as it had been. I found Dumbledore sitting solemnly at his desk. "Hello, sir. You wanted to speak to me?"
He nodded, "Yes, I did. New information on your abilities has come to light. I was hoping I could share some of this information with you once you show me the progress you have made."
I smiled at him and swirled my hand, creating a little snowstorm above it. Dumbledore smiled at it. I then swished that arm into the air, making a snowfall above our heads. Then I stepped gently on the floor, covering it in a thin sheet of ice. Then I shot my acid snow at the wall, melting the stone.
Dumbledore applauded, "That was excellent. I am very impressed with how far you've come along. I believe that henceforth, our lessons can end. Please, sit down." He said, gesturing to the chair across from him. I sat. "How are you doing on your studies?" He asked.
I licked my lips, "They've been going pretty smoothly, sir."
"Professor Snape told me that he offered you a place in his advanced class. And that you accepted. That is good news."
I nodded, "Yeah, I thought it was very kind of him to give me a chance like that."
Dumbledore smiled, "Indeed. And I trust your duties as Prefect are going well?"
"Yes, sir." I answered.
"Excellent. Well, let me move onto what I have learned about your abilities, shall I? Your powers, as I've said before, have not been seen for centuries. I was correct in that aspect. Your powers, again as I've said before, are only given to those who are deemed worthy."
"Deemed worthy by who?" I asked.
Dumbledore's eyes sparkled, "Excellent question. Deemed worthy by the individual who had your powers before."
"But if these powers haven't been seen for centuries, how did the person before me know that I was 'worthy'? Are you saying I can see into the future?"
"No, Miss Finnigan. That is impossible. Each one of you that has this ability has...how shall I say it? An aura, a soul that comes with it. When one of you dies, the soul lives on, waiting for the next worthy person. Does that make sense?"
I frowned, "Why does Seamus not have this power? He's my twin!"
"He was not worthy, I suppose." Dumbledore said, "If you two had been identical twins, then it would be more likely that you have the same ability. However, because you are fraternal twins, it would be impossible."
"I think I understand." I said, sliding down into my chair. "Why didn't my abilities start showing earlier?"
Dumbledore pursed his lips, "I can think of no answer for that, except that it is likely that your powers did not to show until your magic began to evolve as well."
"Which would explain why it started happening after I'd been at Hogwarts for a few months."
"Precisely. And you're not even through yet. You still have much to learn about what you can do. Pretty soon, you will be able to build buildings and other strong structures."
"Oh!" I interrupted, "I already have. Last year, before summer holiday I froze the Black Lake and built an igloo." Then I blushed, "I mean, it was a small one but-"
"That is remarkable news, Miss Finnigan. Still, you will be improving even more so. But, I think you will be just fine on your own for a while. I also bear a warning for you."
"Go on..." I urged.
He sighed, "There are some who would not wish me to tell you this. But I feel like it is necessary for your safety. Lord Voldemort has returned. There is no doubt. I am aware of your view on this matter, but I'm telling you the truth. I would not lie."
I shifted uncomfortably in my chair, "Sir, I-"
"If Voldemort or anyone on his side finds out about your abilities, then they will do everything they can to get you on their side, to get you to fight for them. I plead you not to do so."
I shook my head, "I won't, sir, but-"
"In addition, I must urge you to be weary of anyone you are suspicious of being a Death Eater. I believe..." he paused, "they will do anything in their power to get it, whether you join them or not. I offer you protection from those in the Order of the Phoenix. They will patrol your house."
I shook my head, "No, I have Mum and Seamus. They'll be enough."
He nodded abruptly, "Right well, one more thing. I understand that you are dating one, George Weasley?" I sat there awkwardly, but nodded. "And have you two...how they say...done the deed?"
I blinked, not completely understanding, "Sir?"
He pursed his lips, "Uh, had it off?"
I shook my head, "Sorry I don't-"
He made a noise in his throat and cried out, "Have you and Mr. Weasley made love!"
I blushed scarlet and started coughing. "No-no, sir. No, we haven't."
"Good. Good, because in addition to everything that you can do...there is something more to it. Once you...have intercourse with a person, that person will gain some or all of your abilities. I believe that, before you commit to having intercourse with Mr. Weasley, he should be made aware of the abilities he will gain. However, you also have to ability to take away that power. But it requires alot of concentration and skill."
I buried my head into my hands. There was no way this was happening. Dumbledore was actually giving me sex advice.
"Th-thank you sir." I said, my voice muffled by my hands, "I'll be sure to let him know."
Dumbledore smiled, "Wonderful. You're free to go."
I left fairly quickly after he dismissed me. There was no way I was sticking around in case Dumbledore wanted to go into depth on his theory that having sex with me would give someone my powers.
A few days later, everyone was working in study hall. I was sitting across from George and next to Fred and Seamus. George hooked his ankle around mine, swinging our legs back and forth. Just as I finished some Potion's homework, a piece of parchment hit my nose. It was a note.
Darcy.
I ignored it. George wasn't going to get me in trouble.
Darcy
Darcy
DARCY!
Three more note hit my nose again and again. I looked up at George and glared at him. He grinned and swung our feet again. Hastily I wrote a note,
WHAT?!
Meet me in the broom cupboard by the Common Room after SH.
Why? I smirked as I wrote this. I totally knew why. George and I hadn't had a moment alone since...well since a while. I guess this was his solution.
Why do you think?
He wants to shag you! A new handwriting made it's way into our conversation.
Fred!
FRED! Jesus, what was it with people wanting to talk about George and I having sex?
What?!
That's not what I meant!
Mhmm, sure. I am certain that's what you meant.
You weren't even supposed to read this, Fred.
You underestimate me, Blackbird.
Anyway, I knew that's not what Georgie meant. He only wants to snog you.
Thank you, Fred, I picked up on that.
That concluded our notes since McGonagall gave all three of us a steely glare. I kicked Fred and George hard in their shins while they laughed about getting caught.
Professor McGonagall stepped up to the front of the room and announced, "Those of you in the Future Leaders of the Ministry club, you are now dismissed."
A lot of Slytherins stood and left, many Ravenclaws left as well, barely any Hufflepuffs, and no Gryffindors besides me stood. Talk about awkward.
Fred slapped my back, "Do you promise to have a horrible time?"
"Oh, I do." I joked. But I was fairly certain that I was going to have a horrible time. I mean, who'd want to be part of a club that was led by Umbridge? Not me.
I followed the stream of students walking to an unknown place. However, eventually we found our way to the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom. Instead, of going in, I stood outside, not wanting to make chitchat with the other members. At last, the hallway was quiet and I was left alone. I found myself shaking with unexpected and unwanted nerves, so to let it out, I quickly froze the corridor's floor.
Quietly, I opened the door to the classroom. As soon as I did, I realized how stupid my idea was, because everyone in the room was staring at me.
"Ah, Miss Finnigan, how nice of you to join us." Umbridge said. "Please, take a seat, we were just getting started."
I surveyed the room and found that the only empty chair was next to...Justin. Relenting, I quickly walked to the empty chair and slumped down.
"Hi." Justin whispered.
I gave him a tight smile, "Hey."
"Are you joining the club?" He asked.
I shrugged, "Maybe." Lie. There was no way in hell I was joining this club. I was only here to humor Umbridge.
"Well that's cool."
"Alright, everyone, let's begin shall we?"
After the club, Justin and I were walking out together. We had basically ignored Umbridge the entire time (Justin informed me that he hated Umbridge just as much as I did and was only there because Umbridge invited him, like me). Anyway, after talking to him, I realized there was a lot that I didn't know about him. I learned that his Muggle family was considerably wealthy and that he had several non-magical brothers and sisters.
Leaving the classroom, I was having a very hard time not laughing my arse off at his story of his adventures in the Bahamas.
"You can't expect me to believe that!" I said, clutching my sides.
Justin nodded and laughed too, "I'm not lying! It was hilarious."
"I never knew you could cause trouble." I admitted, "I always thought you were some tightly wound stick in the mud, but as it turns out..." I blushed and looked down. "I'm sorry. I was really mean to you after we...broke up."
He shook his head, "Don't be. I deserved it. And I wouldn't expect you to forgive me about last year with Dimitri."
I shrugged, "Everyone makes mistakes."
"Yeah, but not ones that make them look like demons. I really am sorry. I shouldn't have...I should have accepted you and your friends. Especially you and Weasley. You two are sort of meant tot be. I was an idiot for trying to come between you."
I smirked, "Sort of. But hey, if you ever want to just hang out...as friends, of course, I'm totally cool with it."
Justin grinned, "Brilliant. Well," he glanced behind him at a girl our age with curly brown hair, "I've gotta go, other wise my girlfriend might get jealous?"
"Girlfriend?! Whose the lucky girl?" I teased.
He blushed and said, "Juliette Rogue. She's a Ravenclaw."
I smiled at Juliette who smiled back, "She seems nice. Well, go on. I'll talk to you later."
"Bye, Darcy!" Justin left and greeted Juliette with a warm hug. I smiled and turned around, coming face to face with a scowling Fay.
"Hi!" I said cheerily.
She sneered, "What do you think you're doing hanging out with him?"
I rolled my eyes, "Relax, Fay. He's fine now. He's different."
She scoffed, "Don't let Seamus see you with him. Otherwise...you know what he'll do."
"Yeah, but he's too busy with a stick up his arse. Honestly, he needs to calm down. I'm fifteen. I can make choices without having to ask him first."
Fay giggled and linked her arm with mine, "I know. There's a letter for you, from Fleur I think. Come on, let's go!" She smiled brightly and tugged me along towards the Common Room.
I raised an eyebrow, "I thought you were angry with me..."
"Oh please, I can't be angry at you. I was only acting like that because I knew that's how Seamus would act."
I nodded, "True."
We got back to the Common Room and went straight up to the dorm. I was anxious to read what Fleur had in store for me now. I found the letter sitting on my bed and ripped it open, reading it to myself.
Dear Darcy,
The past few months out of school have been horribly boring and dull. Nothing of consequence has happened yet...
Which is why I've accepted William's invitation to go to Egypt and take an internship there for the year. He talked to his boss at the bank and was able to land me a place there. Even though I am happy for the job, I am also very happy that I will be working very closely with William. I hope to be able to get closer to him and eventually confess my feelings for him. I can only hope that this strong and passionate feeling will be mutual.
Thank you for introducing me, dear.
I have also been asked by my parents to invite you to France this summer to visit me and my home. It would be so much fun. You could come for out annual Summer Ball that we throw at the estate. Wouldn't that be lovely?
I hope to see you soon, dear.
Love,
Fleur
After reading it, I reread it and reread it again. Then I quickly penned out a response.
Dear Fleur,
I am so happy that you are going to Egypt. Not only to take that job but also to get close to a certain redhead that I know has the same feelings for you. He would be an idiot to not share the same feelings. The last time I saw him, he wouldn't stop asking about you. It was hilarious. There's only one thing I ask...to be a bridesmaid at your wedding. :)
I would love to visit France this summer. It sounds amazing and that ball sounds even better. As long as you promise to show me historical French wizarding sights, I will be completely happy. Thank you so much for inviting me. I should probably ask Mum first, but I know she'll say yes and even if she doesn't I'll sneak there anyway.
I miss you so much Fleur. I've almost forgotten what it's like to go to school without you here.
Love,
Darcy
Satisfied, I gave my letter to Fleur's owl and sent it into the evening sky. Fay was sitting on her bed watching me contently.
"You're so lucky to have so many friends, Darcy. I don't know how you do it. You're so kind and welcoming but you're also strong and defensive of your friends. It's amazing."
"Yeah, well when prats like Malfoy walking around, acting like they're all that, someone's got to do something."
That is it for now everybody. I hope this satisfies your hunger. Looking back, I realized that Justin and Darcy's break up was a little weird. I wasn't exactly happy with how it ended. I wanted to give Justin another chance. And I know. I said that I hated him and I know a lot of you hated him too. And I thought about that. Here's what I think. I think that Justin was childish and dumb...he was thirteen. I figured by now, as a fifteen year old boy, he would be (slightly) more mature and considerate. And yes, that's not really realistic of real fifteen year old boys. I should know, they're in my grade at school. But hey, this is fiction, folks.
Besides that, I have a big plan for the next chapter that is making me blush just thinking about it. And no, it's not the sex scene. It's...well, you'll just have to wait and see.
You should hear from me again either tomorrow (Saturday, April 26) or Sunday (April 27).
Love you all!
