A/N: I know I'm a little late tonight with this (and there's double updates for BandB and WiT for this week ^^;) but this weekend I went to Cedar Point (still awesome, I'm such an adrenaline junkie…) and then Sunday I unexpectedly went to ComicCon, it was pretty cool, but doesn't live up to Youmacon in any sense of the word BUT! I did buy three swords :3 One's a katana and I don't know the technical names of the other two but they're like smaller katanas, and I got a plushie Totoro! He's so fluffy! Anyway I'll shut up now and type.
Disclaimer: Still none of the owns.
Conviction
Credo blinked up at the stars that twinkled above him, who knew how long it'd been since he'd last been conscious as a human being? He didn't know, it hurt to move so he simply stayed where he was, staring up at the stars. The former captain wanted to soak up the feeling of being human for as long as he could, it seemed like his time as one was growing shorter and shorter with each passing change. He sighed, blinking sleepily, being human was always so tiring… then there was suddenly movement from the bushes nearby…
-Family of Happenstance-
Trish stepped into the small clearing to find a white feathered demon growling at her, it seemed tired and defensive. The she devil knew that this was the man-demon though, it had the same noble but broken aura that Mitch had told her about. She crouched down and pulled her knees up to her chest, trying to appear as small as possible. The demon perked up a little and tilted it's head before deciding that she wasn't a threat and flopping back onto the ground and turning back into a human man. He glanced at her from the corner of his eye before looking back up to the stars.
"You aren't afraid of me?" he asked without looking at her.
"There's nothing you could do that could possible scare me." She said, unfolding her arms and legs slowly.
"But I'm a demon."
"So am I." the huntress' statement caught the man off guard because he turned his head to look at her and she grinned lightly "but you are also a man."
"Doesn't really seem like it anymore, I spend more and more time as a devil whether I like it or not… I have half a mind just to let it go."
"Don't you dare ever do that." Trish said, her words suddenly cold and dead serious. The man raised an eyebrow
"What would you know? You're a full blooded devil already."
"I am, but a I have a human heart, and that's something that no one should ever give up without bartering their very life for. Your emotions are what keep you human, if you've given up all hope then you will slowly descend into the demon side of yourself, it's a balancing act, but one that my friend has learned how to walk very well, him and his son. They make it look as though it were as natural as breathing."
"Sparda's heirs…" the man whispered.
"Ah, so you are the hybrid that I thought, what's you name hybrid?" the man sat up and looked her up and down, unsure of what she wanted and feeling rather untrustworthy to begin with. Trish took this as a sign that she'd overstepped her manners and said.
"I'm Trish, it's nice to meet you." She held out her hand and the man looked at her with wide eyes.
"The devil that was meant to lead Dante to his death." The polite air evaporated immediately as Trish frowned.
"I've left my past long behind me." She said coldly and the man shook his head.
"I'm sorry, it's always hard to pull myself together afterward, I'm Credo, the former Captain of the Guard of Fortuna." He shook her hand with an almost grin and the she devil grinned back.
"It's nice to meet you Credo, now I was wondering if you might be able to help me." Credo hesitated and just looked at her. Trish sighed
"I need your help, your Order has taken both Nero and Dante as well as a very good friend of mine. If you help me, I could help you learn how to regain your humanity."
"I have no reason to want something so painful back." The man muttered, shaking his head.
"You're wrong."
"Am I?"
"Very. I went through hell and back to achieve my humanity and I'd gladly do it ten times over for it, your humanity is worth it, don't throw away something that you should treasure."
"It's painful."
"It should be, it just makes the good that much better, the ups and downs are better than the constant aggression of your demonic instincts isn't it? Don't you have something to fight for?"
"I did, but she's far out of my reach now, she's safe and that's good enough."
"Who is she?" Trish felt a pit growing in the bottom of her stomach
"My sister, Kyrie, she was adopted out of Fortuna when we were both pretty young and I told her that I'd see her again someday, I hate to break that promise but…" the brunette trailed off, looking at his hands as though they were not his own. Trish took his hands.
"She isn't as safe as you think, I have good reason to believe that The Order intends to use her as part of the sacrifice for the Savior."
A/N: Okay so really short chapter this week but I've still got a lot to do tonight… and I need some sleep, work and all…
Till next time,
