Chapter 43: Wall of the General

"Stand and draw." Tetsu took his turn. "I ride Werewolf Sieger. I call one more Werewolf and Dark Soul Conductor. I call Alluring Succubus. I activate Alluring Succubus' skill: Soulcharge. Go, Werewolf."

"Street Bouncer intercepts." Kamui countered.

"Attack." Tetsu had his second Werewolf attack.

"No guard." Kamui declared.

"Drive check." Tetsu continued.

"Damage check." Kamui drew a card.

"With a boost from Alluring Succubus, Dark Soul Conductor attacks." Tetsu continued his attack. "That's the end of my turn."

"I stand and draw." Kamui took his turn. I ride Top Gun. I call Jack. Jack's Counterblast, rev into high gear. Here I go. With a boost from Shout, Jack attacks Dark Soul Conductor. With a boost from Death Army Guy, Death Army Lady attacks."

"I guard with Dark Queen of Nightmareland." Tetsu fended.

"In that case, I attack with Top Gun." Kamui was not done. "Twin drive, first card. Critical trigger. I add +5000 to the power of Death Army Lady and give the extra critical to Top Gun. Second card."

"Lucky." Renji beamed.

"LK,yo." Eiji agreed.

"Even though he didn't get a trigger?" Emi blinked.

"It's because he drew a Grade 3 card." Morikawa declared.

"With Death Army Lady and Death Army Guy, if a Grade 3 card is drawn during a Vanguard drive check, they can stand." Miwa explained.

"That's why I was just about to say." Morikawa whined.

"So, that's why he gave 5000 power to Death Army Lady." Emi realized.

"If it all goes well, he might be able to do lots of damage all at once this turn." Izaki added.

"I wanna say that too!" Morikawa wept.

"Go, Top Gun!" Kamui cheered.

"Damage check." Tetsu drew a card. "First card. Second card. Draw trigger. I add +5000 to the power of Werewolf. And then, I draw."

"Death Army Guy boosts." Kamui continued his assault. "I use Lady to attack your rear-guard Werewolf."

"Kamui?" Renji was puzzled.

"WDT?" even Eiji was confused.

"'Why do that'?" Izaki translated.

"What's the point of wasting his good luck?" Morikawa wondered. "Unlike me, that kid is hopeless."

"Actually, he's pretty crafty." Miwa chuckled.

"I see." Tetsu recalled. "You were there last time. Not on the field, but together with Team Q4."

"At that time, I ran away from my team." Kamui admitted. "But let me tell you this; it wasn't because I was nervous about the national tournament or anything. I was oversinking about the team. No, I mean I was overthinking." he corrected himself. "But in the end, it only caused problems for them. I was sneaking around, hiding, so even when my teammates were in a pinch, I couldn't rush right over. So, of course, my place with the team and my teammates' trust, I tossed that all away. That's why, I'm here today, to earn my teammates' trust back. This time, no matter what happens, I ain't gonna run away. I'm gonna help my teammates, too. And then, my team, Q4, is definitely gonna win."

"Spoken like a real man." Izaki chuckled.

"Almost as manly as me." Morikawa bragged.

"This mouth has no right to speak those words." Renji tugged at Morikawa's mouth.

"NRTS!" Eiji agreed.

"Ah, youth..." Miwa teased.

"And how old are you?" Izaki looked at the older teen.

"You lose that straightforwardness pretty early on." Miwa joked. "See, the stronger the man, the more awkward he is."

"You two are more alike than I thought." Ami teased, giving her partner a side look.

"Shut up." Kai huffed, causing Ami to burst into giggles.

"Stand and draw." Tetsu took his turn. "I see, so you do have experience, in a way. Wicked wings, flap in the darkness. I ride, Stil Vampir! Vampir gains +2000 power from a Soulcharge. Boy, you guarded against Stil Vampir's skill, so I couldn't get a 5th point damage and I commend you for that. But... I call Gwynn the Ripper. I activate Gwynn the Ripper's skill. Counterblast. When this unit is called, if a Dark Irregulars the Vanguard, one of the opponent's Grade 2 lower rear-guards can be retired. I call Demon of Aspiration, Amon and Poet of Darkness, Amon. For both of these units, if there are six or more Dark Irregulars in the Soul, they have +3000 power this turn. I attack with Demon of Aspiration, Amon, boosted by Poet of Darkness, Amon."

"Damage check." Kamui drew a card.

"Even if you did manage to avoid one skill, you're going to have the same outcome as Sendou Aichi." Tetsu declared. "Attack." he stood Stil Vampir. "Twin drive."

"I am going to win." Kamui corrected, using Twin Blader to block the attack.

"Were you worried?" Miwa teased, hearing Emi's relieved sigh.

"Yeah." Emi nodded. "But he'll be okay, right? After all, look how hard he's working for the team. Besides, right before he left, he promised he'd win."

"Kamui-san, the goddess believes in you." Renji shouted.

"FK!" Eiji cheered. "Fight, Kamui."

"Pretty impressive, boy." Tetsu praised.

"I don't need your approval." Kamui retorted. "'Cause AL4 Foo Fighter ticks me off. Like 'Victory I everything' or 'I'll never forgive failure from one of our own'. What do you think teammates are? If you lose or make a mistake, you support each other and move forward together. That's what a teammate is."

"You're naive." Tetsu snorted. "With a boost from Alluring Succubus."

"I guard with Fighting Battleship, Prometheus." Kamui fended Gwynn the Ripper's attack.

"My turn is over." Tetsu declared.

"Stand and draw." Kamui took his turn. "I ride Asura Kaiser. I call Tough Boy and Ring Girl, Clara. Jack revs up to full speed. With a boost from Shout, he attacks."

"Damage check." Tetsu drew a card. "Stand trigger. Demon of Aspiration, Amon stands. I add +5000 to the power of Vampir."

"He powered it up." Izaki shivered.

"If he survives this turn, Kamui is in trouble." Morikawa predicted.

"Wait, he still has a chance." Miwa corrected.

"With a boost from Tough Boy, Death Army Lady attacks." Kamui continued his attack.

"Guard." Tetsu fended with Dark Soul Conductor. "Skill activated. Soulcharge."

"Next." Kamui continued. "With a boost from Clara, Asura Kaiser attacks."

"I guard with Blitzritter." Tetsu defended.

"Twin drive." Kamui drew a card. "First card. Death Army Lady stands." he drew a stand trigger. "Then, with Asura Kaiser's skill, I choose Tough Boy. Stand. Second card. With a boost from Tough Boy, Death Army Lady attacks Demon of Aspiration, Amon. That's the end of my turn."

"It's all over." Morikawa moaned.

"If he can protect himself through the next turn, he'll be alright, won't he?" Emi asked.

"Yeah, that's right..." Miwa agreed.

"But with this opponent..." Izaki muttered.

"Kamui, good luck." Emi prayed.

"Goddess' blessing, reach him!" Renji shouted.

"KTG, Kamui the Great!" Eiji yelled.

"Stand and draw." Tetsu took his turn. "Sinful king praying for dark prosperity, king who has embraced the despair of light in those wings, the time has come for you to awaken. I ride, King of Diptera, Beelzebub! If there are eight or more cards in the Soul, Beelzebub receives +1000 power. I call Dark Soul Conductor. With a boost from Alluring Succubus, Gwynn the Ripper attacks. Are you prepared, boy?"

"What's with that?" Kamui snapped. "I don't know what you mean."

"You don't know the word 'resignation'?" Tetsu asked.

"Don't know it and don't need it." Kamui fired back. "I've got teammates. And as long as I go them, I ain't never gonna give up. But you won't know that feeling, huh?"

"If you get hung up on that stuff, you'll never get to be the strongest." Tetsu declared. "I attack with Beelzebub. Counterblast. I choose two rear-guard units to give +3000 power. I select Dark Soul Conductor and Poet of Darkness, Amon. Twin drive, first card. Second card, critical trigger. Tremble in eternal darkness, Deepest Corruption!"

With the final attack, Tetsu took the win. "Farewell, Katsuragi Kamui." the older player turned to leave. "Teammates, huh?" so, you came, Kai. He stopped in his footsteps when he spotted Kai in the stands.

"It was close." Izaki sighed.

"Yeah, the little brat did well." Miwa agreed.
