[ The Devil You Know ]

AFTER WAITING IN THE IMPALA FOR what seemed like hours, the Winchesters finally returned, Bobby already on speakerphone. Glancing towards Kāzia, Eva already knew that they were thinking the same thing (more or less): not wanting to go through the interview with the doctors, the two girls had decided to stay in the car. It had been more silent than what Eva would have intended, but then again, what was she to say? Kāzia was definitely not in the mood to be speaking to anyone (she's been really pissed off lately—more cranky than usual, that is), and despite the fact it concerned Eva mildly, she knew that it was revolving around their run-in with Lucifer back at the pagan hotel:

"Kāzia and Eva—my, my, what a pleasant surprise," Lucifer drawled, turning his attention away from his archangel brother. The two girls stopped in their tracks, hesitating before they turned to face the Devil himself. Looking back at the Winchesters, Eva noticed Dean and Sam exchanging both confused and worried looks as they glanced back at the girls, their gazes harsh once it landed on Lucifer.

"What do you want this time?" Kāzia snapped, causing Eva to glance at her in attempts of a warning (forgiving Kāzia for not being quite religious, Eva knew that the only things she knew about Lucifer and God and anything biblical revolved around Supernatural and their sources—not like they weren't very valid, but Eva knew a TV show wasn't a reliable source for religion—or anything, really). But snapping at Lucifer was definitely a no-no, no matter what.

Lucifer merely smiled at Kāzia's bitter attitude as he stepped forward, causing Eva to step back in fear. She glanced back at the Winchesters as she nodded towards them, mouthing for them to leave. Sam and Dean exchanged glances before Sam looked back at her, mouthing 'no way'. When Eva's gaze landed on Kali, however, Sam hesitated, looking back at Eva before turning around. Dean was more hesitant to follow his brother, though, as he glanced back at Kāzia and Lucifer. Eva nudged him pointedly, her gaze narrowed as Dean's jaw clenched. He met her gaze evenly before he turned around, heading after Sam.

"It's not what I want, Kāzia," Lucifer said, gaining Eva's attention. She turned, watching as his deteriorating vessel neared her darker-haired friend. "It's more or less what I need."

Kāzia scoffed, "What, us as your playthings? Sorry, Lucy, but I don't remember signing a contract where I opted to be your slave."

Lucifer sighed, rolling his eyes. "All you humans are the same…Quite a shame, actually," he added, a smirk now gracing his face, "you're all so full of yourselves…it disgusts me…that my Father couldn't see what pathetic—"

"I don't want your 'pity the devil' crap," Kāzia interrupted. Eva's breathing hitched as she suddenly felt her hands shaking. She willed for Kāzia to shut the freak up, like goddammit woman! but her friend merely met Lucifer's gaze evenly. About to think how stupid Kāzia was (who would stand up to the Devil, religious or not?), Eva noticed a look of fear flash in in her friend's eyes, making her think twice about her decisions.

"What do you want then?" Lucifer asked, still smiling calmly.

"I…I want to know…" Kāzia hesitated, glancing away from Lucifer for a moment, meeting Eva's gaze. Noticing the SOS look in her friend's eyes, Eva merely looked away, not sure how to react. "I want to know why you brought Eva and I here…in this nightmare of a parallel universe."

"Want to know, or need to know?" Lucifer pressed, a smirk plastered across his face. Eva had to suppress everything within her not to glare in the direction of the powerful Devil. Looking back to Kāzia, Eva noticed her friend's temper rising—it was quite easy to tell when Kāzia was beyond pissed: her small hands would be clenched into fists and she would be shaking unnervingly.

"Were you always an annoying twat? Maybe that's why Daddy casted you away," Kāzia snapped. A gasp escaped Eva as she lifted a hand to her mouth, eyes wide. Her friend was definitely screwed.

Before Eva even had time to blink, Lucifer had advanced on Kāzia, his hand tightly grasping onto her jaw, forcing her to look him in the eye. "I'd watch your mouth if I were you," he warned, his voice dangerously dark, "I could snap your neck in a millisecond."

Eva had to suppress a shudder that threatened to shake throughout her body as she glanced back at Kāzia—despite being nearly assaulted by Satan, she had managed to keep her cool; even talking to the Winchesters as if nothing had happened. Eva wanted desperately to tell them what had happened but she knew better than that—after all, he hadn't done any real, physical harm to her (mental is more like it, Eva contemplated, and the Winchesters obviously couldn't help with mental conditions). But she knew she couldn't keep it hidden forever—although Lucifer threats may have seemed empty at the moment, Eva knew that he wasn't joking. Not in the least.

"Doesn't matter what the sick son of a bitch is doing," Bobby's voice snapped over the phone, gaining both Eva and Kāzia's attention. She hadn't even noticed the Impala had started driving again as Sam held the phone while Dean was driving. He glanced at the phone as Bobby continued, "What matters is this is the fourth town he's hit—that we know of—and we're still eating his dust." He paused for a moment before asking, "Did you get anything? We got even a snowball at the probable next target?"

Sam glanced at Dean before shaking his head, "Uh, no pattern we can see." He glanced back at Kāzia and Eva pointedly, but before he had the chance to ask them anything, Bobby let out a disgruntled sigh.

"Okay—hold on." The sound of him shuffling around with something on the other line echoed from the speakerphone before he cleared his throat, "Well, far as I can tell, he's still heading east. So…head east, I guess."

"East?" Sam and Dean echoed. Dean's jaw clenched as he glanced back at the road.

"Bobby, we're in West Nevada—east is practically all there is."

"Yeah, we'll you better get to drivin'," Bobby replied. Dean groaned once more, glancing around the road before he flipped on his left turning signal, about to do a U-turn. Eva glanced back at Kāzia, only to jump in shock at the new source of a body seated beside her.

"Say, I've got an idea."

At the sound of Crowley's voice, Dean immediately swerved the car, tires screeching against the pavement before he slammed on the breaks, causing the Impala to awkwardly park to the side. Turning around, Sam angrily pulled out Ruby's knife, reaching forward as he attempted to stab Crowley, only to hesitate when the demon disappeared.

"Did you get him?" Dean grunted.

"He's gone…" Sam's voice trailed off as he looked at Eva, confused. The girl merely shrugged, not knowing what to say.

"Fancy a fag and a chat?" Crowley asked from outside of the car. He tapped on the window, noticing the group's expressions as he added, "You're upset—we should discuss it. Not here, but—"

Before he had a chance to finish his sentence, Sam and Dean were alreadly slamming the doors shut to the Impala. Kāzia and Eva followed after them in a slower manner just in time to see Sam starting towards Crowley angrily, "You want to talk? After what you did to us?"

Crowley stepped back, eyes wide. "After what—what I did to you?" he exclaimed, baffled. "I gave you the Colt!"

"Yeah," Sam scoffed, eyes narrowed, "and you knew it wouldn't work against the devil!"

"I never!" Crowley sputtered, looking confused. He glanced towards Kāzia and Eva before Sam pushed him, causing him to back away, stumbling over his feet.

"You set us up," Sam snapped. "We lost people on that suicide run—good people!"

"Who you take on the ride is your own business!" Crowley retorted. His gaze landed on Kāzia and Eva as he added, a smirk now gracing his face, "Look, don't go blaming me when you had two, very good reliable sources telling you that the Colt wouldn't work." Sam hesitated, glancing back at Kāzia and Eva as Crowley continued, "Now, I'm sure you two goons didn't listen to a word they were saying, right?"

Sam turned around, facing Crowley again as he attempted to stab him once more. Before the knife had the chance to come into contact with Crowley's shoulder, however, the demon teleported, now standing next to Eva as he glanced towards Dean. "Call your dog off—please," he pleaded, nodding towards Sam as the taller Winchester turned around, confused before his gaze landed on Crowley.

"Give me one good reason," Dean said, gaze suspicious.

"I can give you Pestilence."

Dean hesitated, frowning. "What do you know about Pestilence?"

"I know how to get him." Crowley's signature smirk had returned at the sight of Sam and Dean's considerable expressions. "That's got your interest, doesn't it?"

"Are you actually listening to this?" Sam demanded, still gripping tightly onto Ruby's knife.

"Sam—" Kāzia started, only to be interrupted as Sam glared towards the three of them.

"Are you friggin' nuts?" he exclaimed, interrupting Kāzia before she had the chance to vouch for Crowley.

"Shut up for a second, Sam!" Dean snapped, glaring pointedly at his younger brother. Sam opened his mouth, about to snap a stinging retort back at him, only to be interrupted as Eva stepped forward.

"Shut up, both of you!" she exclaimed. She nodded back to Crowley, "Let him say this one thing."

Sam and Dean remained silent, their gazes hovering over Eva for a moment before they looked back at Crowley, eyes still narrowed in suspicion. Eva glanced towards the demon, nodding at him, gesturing that he should continue. Crowley, however, remained silent for a moment, examining Eva for a moment before he blinked, looking back at the Winchesters.

"I swear, I thought the Colt would work," he admitted. "It's an honest mistake." Sam scoffed at his words, causing Kāzia to jab him in the side pointedly. "But it's all part o the learning process—nothing's changed. I still want the devil dead. Well…one thing's changed," he shrugged, "Now the devil knows I want him dead. Which, by the way, makes me the most buggered son in all of creation."

Dean groaned, "Holy crap—we don't care."

"They burnt down my house!" Crowley snapped suddenly. He glared angrily at Dean before adding, "They ate my tailor! Two months under a rock, like a bloody salamander! Every demon on Hell and Earth's got his eyes out for me! And yet…here I am—last place I should be—on the road, talking to Sam and Dean Winchester and their two broads under a friggin' spotlight." He gestured to the spotlight hovering above them before it exploded, the static buzzing for a moment. "So come with me—please. Do you want the horsemen rings or not?" Sam and Dean exchanged confused looks as Crowley let out an exasperated sigh, "Yes, I know all about that." He gestured towards their car. "Shall we?"

Before the Winchesters had the chance to object, Kāzia had already started for the car, opening the passenger's seat. She gestured towards it before adding, "After you."

Dean and Sam exchanged baffled looks, glancing back at Kāzia but didn't get the chance to yell at her as Crowley started forward, pushing past the Winchesters.

"I would rather teleport us all there, but this will do." He glanced back at the Winchesters. "Come on now! We haven't got all day."

XxX

The ride to the abandoned house Crowley had been staying at was an awkward one, needless to say. Not only did Sam have to squeeze into the back with Kāzia and Eva (he was grumbling most of the ride, complaining that he didn't have enough leg room and that Crowley should be the one in the back), while Dean held the demon knife at Crowley, glancing at him every now and then as he continued to drive. Once they parked the Impala off in the shadows, Crowley was already standing at the door of the home, opening it as he gestured for the rest to follow. Sam and Dean glanced at Kāzia and Eva, the look of suspicion still plain on their faces as they reluctantly climbed out of the car, following into the abandoned house.

Crowley let out a long sigh, "Here we are—my life on the lam. How the mighty have fallen…" He walked towards a table, running a finger along the side before lifting it up, now coated in dust. "Single-pane glass…used contraception in the fireplace…" He glanced up at the ceiling, "The water damage alone—"

"My heart's bleeding for you," Dean interrupted, sarcasm dripping off his tongue. "Now, how do you know about the rings?"

"Well, now…I've been keeping a close eye on you lot," Crowley said, looking around the living room once more. He eyed the eroded mantle of the fireplace for a moment before glancing back at the Winchesters, meeting Sam's glare unfazed.

"We got hex bags—we're hidden from demons," he said, glancing back at Dean questioningly.

"All but one," Crowley replied. "That night you broke into my house, our first date, my valet hid a tracking device in your car—a magical coin that easily trumps your little bags o' bones." He shrugged simply as he added, "It allows me to hear things, too—and, my, the things I've heard." He chuckled, glancing at the shocked expressions of Sam and Dean before asking, "So you want to cram the devil back in the box? Cunning scheme—I want in."

"You said you could get us Pestilence," Dean repeated.

"Well, now," Crowley sighed, "I don't know where Pestilence is, per se. But I do know the demon who does," he added quickly, noticing the angered expression that crossed the two brothers faces, "He's what you might call the horsemen's stable boy—he handles their itineraries, their personal needs…He's who you want—believe me. And if you don't, well, believe Kāzia and Eva." He nodded towards the girls, smiling slightly.

Dean and Sam glanced back at them. Eva shuffled her feet awkwardly, not liking how Crowley had so rudely focused their anger onto them.

"Well, how do we get him to spill?" Dean questioned, breaking the intense silence. Crowley glanced at him as he added, "Rip out his toenails?"

"No. Nuts at his pay grade don't crack," Crowley replied. "We bring him here, then I sell him."

Sam frowned. "Sell him?"

Crowley rolled his eyes, sighing exasperatedly. "Please. I've sold sin to saints for centuries. Think I can't close one little demon?"

Eva remained silent, silently contemplating what he had said. She glanced towards Kāzia, attempting to make eye contact with her friend, only to see that Kāzia was looking towards the Winchesters, attempting to gain their attention without Crowley noticing. Eva frowned, wondering what Kāzia was so worried about, then widened her eyes in realization: the demon that Crowley was going to find would be Brady, Sam's friend from college. The very person who introduced Sam to Jess.

"Alright, so where's this demon of yours?" Dean asked. Crowley smirked, sauntering towards the front door.

"Niveus Pharmaceutical." He turned back towards the door, as if taunting or testing the Winchesters in a way. Sam glanced back at his brother, grabbing a hold of his arm, stopping him from following Crowley.

"Why are we even listening to him, Dean?" he asked. "This is totally insane."

"I don't disagree," Dean replied, glancing back at Crowley. The demon had turned around, meeting the Winchesters' gazes evenly.

"One big happy family, are we, then?" Crowley smirked. "Fantastic."

Dean nodded towards the door, shaking off Sam's grip. "You ready to go?"

"Yes," Crowley nodded. "Yes I am." As Sam started forward as well, Crowley held out a hand. "Sam, keep the home fires burning."

Dean frowned. "What are you talking about?"

"Sam's not coming," Crowley replied simply, glancing back at the taller Winchester. Sam's eyes narrowed.

"And why the hell not?"

"Because I don't like you," Crowley said, meeting his glowering gaze evenly. "I don't trust you…and—oh yes—you keep trying to kill me." He glared pointedly.

"There's no damn way!" Sam protested. He glanced back at Dean. "This isn't gonna happen!"

"I'm not asking you, am I?" Crowley interrupted. "Because you're not invited. I'm asking you," he pointed towards Dean, "What's it gonna be?" When Dean hesitated, Crowley scoffed, glancing at the two. "Gentlemen…and ladies," he nodded to Kāzia and Eva, who had started towards the Winchesters but stopped at Sam's outburst, "…enjoy your last few sunsets." He headed towards the door, about to leave, only to stop when Dean called out:

"Wait, I'll go." He glanced back at Sam (who was staring at him, completely baffled), "What can I say? I believe the guy." Before Dean could follow Crowley out of the house, however, Kāzia ran after them, grabbing onto Dean's arm. He glanced back at her as she leaned forward, rising on her toes (Dean had to lean down slightly), whispering something into his ear. He met her gaze, frowning slightly before he nodded quickly, following after Crowley before the two left in the Impala. Kāzia turned on her heel, quickly heading back into the house as she shut the door behind her. Sam had made his way towards the kitchen, opening the fridge (what kind of food could Crowley possibly have?) before he entered the living room once more, his cell in one hand and a bottle of whiskey in another.

Eva glanced towards Kāzia, about to question her only to be interrupted as she stood up suddenly. "I'm going to see if Crowley has anything other than alcohol," she said, heading towards the doorway into the kitchen. Before she could disappear, Eva started forward, grabbing a hold of her arm, stopping her. Kāzia glanced back at her, a look of knowing crossing her face.

"What did you tell Dean?" Eva murmured, voice low as she glanced back at Sam. He was dialing a number—most likely Bobby—and hadn't seemed to notice the two talking.

"What's waiting for him at the office—that he should look out for himself," Kāzia responded. She nodded towards Sam as he held the phone up to his ear, waiting for Bobby to answer, "You should tell him what Crowley and Dean are gonna bring back."

"But Kaz—" Eva cut off as Kāzia merely smiled, shaking off Eva's grip as she rounded the corner, disappearing into the kitchen. Eva stood where she was, her thoughts running through her head, feeling as if Hurricane Katrina had hit her mind. Glancing back at Sam, he had stood up from the couch, talking angrily into the phone:

"And then Dean just walks…" He cut off to scoff angrily, taking a drink out of the bottle. "…He walks right out the door with Crowley."

Despite the fact Eva couldn't hear Bobby's reply, she knew it was him agreeing with the fact that all demons are crazy—but in the situation they were stuck in, it was time to go crazy. Cautiously heading towards the couch, Eva stood by, watching as Sam scoffed once more.

"Yeah, maybe." He then hesitated for a moment, looking at his whiskey bottle before sighing, "Hey, Bobby?"

Eva moved towards the couch, sitting down as she took out her phone, fiddling around with it uncertainly. At a time like this, she wished that Kāzia had "accidentally" left behind her smartphone so Eva could play one of the games—unfortunately, Kāzia did no such thing and had brought it with her to hide out in the kitchen, leaving Eva faced to sit awkwardly on the very old couch, wishing she had thought through her life choices better.

"Remember the time you were possessed?" Sam asked, gaining Eva's attention. She glanced back the younger Winchester brother as he waited for Bobby's reply.

"Yeah, rings a bell," Eva heard from the other end of the line.

"When Meg told you to kill Dean, you didn't. You took your body back."

"Just long enough to shank myself," Bobby grunted, "yeah."

Sam hesitated for a moment, glancing back at Eva as he made his way towards the couch, sitting a little ways away from her. "Well…how'd you do it? I mean, how'd you take back the wheel?" He set his whiskey bottle down on the coffee table sitting in front of them.

"Why are you asking, Sam?"

"Say we can open the cage…Great," Sam said, "But then what? W-We just lead the devil to the edge and get him to jump in?"

Bobby's voice was gruff, "You got me."

"What if you guys lead the devil to the edge and I jump in?"

"Sam," Bobby's voice had sharpened to that of a warning. Eva glanced at him, watching Sam carefully. He had grabbed a hold of the whiskey bottle and was examining it closely, his jaw clenched.

"It'd be just like when you turned the knife around on yourself," Sam explained, "One action—just one leap."

"Are you idjits trying to kill me?" Bobby demanded his voice raised. Sam jumped slightly at his yell, sighing as he attempted to calm him down.

"Bobby—"

"We just got done talking your brother off the ledge, and now you're lining up to say 'yes'?"

Sam shook his head, setting the whiskey bottle back down on the table. Eva stared at it as he continued, "It's not like that. I'm not gonna do it. Not unless we all agree…but I think we got to look at our options."

"This isn't an option, Sam."

Sam's brow narrowed. "Why not?"

Bobby sighed loudly from the other end of the phone. "You can't do it. What I did was a million-to-one, and that was some puissant demon I was brain-wrestling. You're talking about taking back control from Satan himself."

"Yeah…" Sam shook his head slowly. "Yeah, I am."

"Kid, it's called 'possession' for a reason," Bobby exasperated. "You, of all people, ought to know."

Sam frowned. "I'm strong enough."

"You ain't," Bobby retorted. "He's gonna find every chink in your armor, Sam, and use it against you—your fear, your grief, your anger—and let's face it. You're not exactly Mr. Anger Management. How are you gonna control the devil when you can't control yourself?"

Sam remained silent, his jaw clenched as he stared ahead at something that didn't seem to exist. Eva hesitated, not sure what she should do. Bobby then sighed again, gaining both Eva and Sam's attention.

"Eva an' Kaz with you?" he asked.

Sam glanced at Eva hesitantly. "Yeah…why do you ask?"

"If I can't convince you about this suicide run, maybe they can." Bobby sighed once more before adding, "I'll talk to you later." Before Sam had the chance to protest, Bobby had already hung up on the other line. Sam closed his eyes, slowly lowering the phone as he pocketed it, glancing back at Eva. She met his gaze, smiling slightly. Sam didn't return it, however, as he looked away, staring ahead once more.

"If this is any consolation," Eva said slowly. Sam still didn't look her way as she added, "I think you're strong enough…Hell, you're stronger than you think."

Sam hesitated, glancing her way. He scoffed, shaking his head before stopping, meeting Eva's gaze once more. "Are you saying it'll work?"

Eva bit her lip, realizing the mess she had caused. She didn't want to lie to Sam, though, seeing the hopeful look in his hazel eyes before she nodded slowly, avoiding his gaze. "Yes…it will."

"Well, that's great…I mean, we have a chance to trap the devil." He frowned, noticing Eva's indifferent expression. "Eva, what's wrong?"

Eva bit her lip, shaking her head. "It's…it's nothing. Sorry." It's actually everything Sam Winchesteraside from the whole you lose your freaking soul the plan works great! She glanced back at Sam, seeing that he was still looking at her in a concerned way. Attempting to force a smile, Eva cleared her throat, "Um, anyway…Sam…Um, when Dean and Crowley come back…they're gonna bring someone you…you probably won't be expecting to see…or want to see, that is."

Sam frowned. "Who?"

"I—I can't tell you…you'll get mad?" Eva's sentence ended awkwardly as a question as she looked away quickly, feeling her palms sweat from the anxiety.

Sam laughed slightly, "I promise I won't get mad…I'll never get mad at you," he added, causing Eva to glance back at him. He met her gaze, smiling his goddamn adorable smile goddammit before his attention flickered down to her lips. Eva felt her heartbeat increase as she turned away once more, feeling her blood rush as her whole body felt tingly with heat.

"Um, wow…" she managed to say, glancing towards the kitchen, "What's taking Kaz so long? There must be a ton of food there…because…wow…that girl—" Eva cut off suddenly, her breathing hitching as Sam placed his hand over hers, gripping it in a tight, comforting way. She bit her lip, feeling her face redden extremely (since there were no lights and it was semi-dark, Eva hoped he couldn't see), as she turned to face him. He met her gaze again with the same look as before.

"Eva…you know you can tell me anything, right?"

Eva opened her mouth to respond, but found no words to say. Noticing this, Sam laughed lightly again, clearing his throat.

"I mean…I noticed that you and Kaz…you two are hiding a lot, aren't you?" he asked, his expression now turning to that of curiosity. Eva hesitated, glancing down at her hand that was still enveloped in Sam's larger one. Feeling subconscious that she was still sweating through her palms from anxiety, Eva quickly pulled away her hand, twiddling her thumbs awkwardly.

"I—well, I…we can't really…it would be…like spoilers…" Eva swallowed, her mouth and throat feeling suddenly dry. She willed herself not to get a panic attack right then and there—after all, Sam freaking Winchester had just held her hand and if that didn't make Eva feel extremely awkward (in a good way) then she didn't know what would.

"I wouldn't mind the ending getting spoiled," Sam said, gaining Eva's attention. She side-glanced his way as he added, "Hell…it'd be great to know what's gonna happen after this, you know?"

Eva merely nodded, biting her lip. She glanced back in the direction of the kitchen, attempting to calm herself down and will that Kāzia would walk back in and clear up any awkward tension that was left. (Or was it sexual? Eva didn't really know, she was terrible with these sorts of things). She took a breath, Sam's words seeming to echo in her head repeatedly, like they do in cheesy sit-coms. You sure as hell don't want to know what's gonna happen after this, Sammy, you sure as hell won't.
