Rosalie

"Really?" I said, my eyes tearing up for what I could tell would be the first of many times over the next nine months. My hormones were already kicking into overdrive, and Emmett, well, he surely didn't know how much naming the baby Lily would mean to me.

He nodded, glancing around the room a bit nervously. "I mean, yeah. Or-or not. We can name her something else that doesn't make you cry. Cause…that would be better."

"No!" I said loudly, and it made him jump. "Lily is perfect. I love it so much."

I sat up and threw my arms around his neck. He returned my embrace, but then pulled back. He looked down at the bed and then at my stomach.

"I'm gonna go ask Carlisle what we should be doing, cause I think I heard if you're pregnant, you have to stay in bed and rest. I mean, Bella couldn't really do anything when Nessie was born, remember?" He positioned me back into a lying position in what I assumed was supposed to be a gentle manner.

I sighed and sat up again. "I remember. But I'm not Bella. And I'm not going to lie in bed forever. I just can't go skydiving or anything crazy. Normal living is fine for pregnant women – they do it all the time."

I got out of bed without waiting for him to respond. I went over and pulled my laptop out of its case and switched it on. Emmett followed me and took the computer from me, moving it to the desk in our room. He smiled and pulled out the chair for me.

"At least sit down. It'd make me feel better," he said. "What are you looking for, anyway?"

"I'm not sure. I don't know how much of the internet is devoted to vampire lore, but I want to find out if Trackers can pinpoint humans the way they can vampires. If Demetri can't track us, we should just move to New York or something. There's so many people there, so many scents, that if he can't rely on his power to find us, we might stand a chance. I just want to make sure we keep Lily safe."

I placed a protective hand on my stomach and sat down in the chair. Emmett kneeled beside me and looked at the screen.

"Yeah, but Carlisle said—" he started.

"I don't care what Carlisle said!" I shrieked. "We're this baby's parents and what I say goes!"

Emmett nodded quickly and placed a hand on my leg. He looked back at the computer. I took a deep breath to calm myself. I knew we'd have to put up a fight to leave Carlisle and the family behind, and of course I'd miss them, but this baby was more important. If we left, we might have a chance, but if we stayed here, we'd just be sitting ducks. The Volturi would come sooner or later, and my guess was that it'd be sooner. They would have gone to that awful, cold town by now and found the army. They'd have figured out what happened; they weren't stupid. It didn't take much to put two and two together, and that crazy vampire was sure to give us away. Demetri was already so in tune with us, what with what had happened with Nessie, that he'd just been waiting for the right excuse to make a move. And now he had it.

I made a few calculated clicks of the mouse and typed in my search. Nothing came up immediately. There sure were a lot of books about vampires, though, and it was almost startling to see how much they got right. But humans just believed them to be works of fiction, which was largely due to the Volturi. I had to admit, they did a good job of keeping our world a secret – or, rather, their world, and that scared me even more. I shook my head and closed the computer.

"What?" Emmett said. "Did you find it? Cause I wasn't through reading that page. And you clicked so fast that I couldn't—"

"It doesn't matter," I said, standing up, my eyes filling with tears again.

"What doesn't? Yes, it does." Emmett pulled me into his arms. "Of course it matters." He paused for a moment. "What was it, again?"

"It doesn't matter if we move. They'll still find us. They're too good. They've been doing this for too long. Unless Aro wants to…" I sniffled and shook my head again. "I wish that… I just wish that all of this was over. We all know it's coming and just sitting here, waiting to die, that's not-that's not living."

"You don't know that. You don't know that they'll kill us, or even that they'll come," Emmett said, kissing the top of my head. "I won't let anything happen to you and Lily. I promise."

"What could you possibly do?" I asked, knowing there was no good answer.
