(The Future in the Past)
Thank you for reviewing my story. I appreciate it.
I don't own Bones.
Oooooooooooooooooo
The traffic unbearably bad, Booth fidgeted in his seat waiting for the cars in front of him to move. "God, let it rain just a little bit and this city is paralyzed. You'd think they'd never seen rain the way they react to it ever damn time."
Concerned for her partner, Brennan turned to look at him, "Are you alright? You appear to be exceptionally agitated this morning."
Gripping the steering wheel until his knuckles were white, Booth continued to glare at the traffic ahead, "No, I'm fine." Realizing that his hands were starting to hurt, he relaxed his grip and shook his head, "I'm worried about Parker. He really loves Rebecca's father and if the old man dies . . . well, this will be the first death in the family that he's had to deal with. Well, I mean, my Dad died, but Parker never knew him, so that doesn't count. My father was just a name to him and not much of one at that. Mr. Stinson is a real nice guy and he always treats Parker like a little prince. I just . . . I just know that Parker will be really upset if Mr. Stinson dies."
"I'm sorry, Booth." Her hand resting on his arm, Brennan frowned, "I know you worry about Parker, but his mother and grandmother will be there to support him if the worst happens and Mr. Stinson dies."
A feeling of helplessness coming over him, Booth exhaled deeply, "I just wish I could be there for him, but . . . well Rebecca and I don't have that kind of relationship. She wouldn't want me there and . . . I'll call Parker tonight and talk to him and make sure he knows that he can call me anytime. I want . . . I want to be there for him as much as I can."
Rubbing his arm, Brennan smiled, "You're a wonderful father. Parker knows that you love him and you're there for him if he needs you."
The traffic starting to move again, Booth inched his SUV forward, "Thanks Bones. Sometimes I think about what it must be like for Parker . . . me not around and it makes me sad for him. I wanted to be a better father, but well you know what's been going on. At least Rebecca lets me see him more than I used to. He knows I love him. He knows he can count on me and . . . I just hope that's enough."
Releasing his arm, Brennan looked at the back seat where their daughter was sitting. A feeling of love overwhelming her, Brennan smiled at her baby, "Christine is lucky to have a father like you. Someone she can count on. She's a happy child, Booth and that's because she knows she's loved."
Placing his hand on her thigh, Booth smiled, "She's got a great Mom, Bones. Between the two of us, she's going to have the childhood we didn't have. We'll make sure of that."
Oooooooooooooooo
Brennan was surprised to find Angela sitting in her office when she arrived at work. "Hi, Angela, do you need to seem me about something or is this a social visit? I have a class with my interns in Bones Storage in about an hour, so I really don't have a lot of time to spare this morning."
Pointing at Brennan's PC, Angela responded, "I wish this was a social visit. I sent you an email and attachment that you need to open. I'm letting you see it first and you can tell me if you think it's worth passing on to Booth."
Curious, Brennan sat down behind her desk, turned on her PC and waited for it to come up. Once she was logged in, she opened the file Angela had sent her and then the attachment.
Hello, Temperance. If you're seeing this then this probably means I'm dead. What a shame that is, but I knew that was a real possibility when I became a hacktivist. If I'm dead, I can only assume that the government finally sent some goons after me and took me out. Well, as you can see, in this day and age, I'm still around so this begs the question, is there really a final death for anyone? I've been actively involved with computers for a very long time and my fingerprints are everywhere. That means that even though my physical body is dead, because of the internet some part of me will live forever.
The reason why I am sending this to you is because first and foremost it has been my honor and duty to try to track down the hidden government that's been controlling our lives for such a long time. I know most people considered me to be delusional, but sadly they were wrong. There really is a shadow government working in this country and I have been tracking them for years. This organization is more powerful than you might think. They have people in the FBI, the Justice Department, Congress, the Senate well I could probably name every government agency that exists, but that would just be tedious.
Now that I'm dead, I really think that you need to be aware that this shadow government is real and that they are very dangerous. Their agenda is contrary to what our country stands for. Believe it or not, I'm a patriot and I love my country.
I know, I know you're probably saying to yourself this guy is a nut and he always has been. Well let me remind you that Deputy Director Kirby didn't work in a vacuum. He was part of the conspiracy and your father killing him didn't stop it. They're still out there and they're growing in power every year. I could give you some names, but right now you don't want to believe me. Some day you will. I've left you a present. I won't tell you where it is because you're not ready, but some day you will be and when you find my gift remember to be careful. If you hope to shatter this evil organization it will have to be done quietly and my magnanimous gift that I have bequeathed you will most definitely be of help. When you find it you will be directed towards a serial killer that you know nothing about. That person is linked to powerful families who are being controlled by the shadow government I spoke of. This serial killer will act like a domino and that domino, if you hit it just right, will knock down the next domino and then the next and will lead you to the top of the conspiracy.
I wanted to work with you, Temperance. I really did. I've been monitoring you for a few years and you're the only one that comes close to my level of genius. I have a plan to get you to work with me and if you're seeing this either I failed or the shadow government killed me before I could implement it. Now my plan is very risky and it will probably scare you, but I don't plan to hurt you or anyone in your family. I know you'd never work with me if I did. I just plan to get your attention and it might be very dramatic. Anyway, like I said, if you're seeing this then I obviously failed and I'm dead and now you're on your own. Be careful Temperance, these people are evil and they're everywhere. If you make a mistake you or that partner of yours could be killed. Don't say I didn't warn you.
Oh, if my calculations are correct, you'll probably find my gift in a few months. It will depend upon you of course. We would have been great together, Temperance. Between the two of us we could have destroyed these evil people and restored our government back to what it's supposed to be. I know you don't approve of some of things I did, but the end justifies the means when it comes to what I've been up against. You and Booth never understood that and that's a shame. Maybe if you hadn't been attached to Booth you would have realized that I was your ideal partner. He isn't good enough for you. I just don't see why you can't see that. The man isn't close to being your equal and he's managed to detract you from greatness. I was hoping some day to get you to see that and get you to leave that Neanderthal. At the very least, being with him will endanger you because I'm really the only one that can protect you from what's coming. His ties are too close to the government and really can you trust a man like that?
Closing the file, Brennan turned to stare at Angela, "He was a murderer Angela and a megalomaniac. We can't really trust anything he said." Pausing, Brennan closed her eyes momentarily and then opened them, "He tried to kidnap my daughter. I don't think that was his original plan, but in the end he endangered my child. How can I trust anything he's said?"
Her arms crossed, Angela felt a shiver run down her spine, "I really hope you're right, Honey. Pelant was a computer hacktivist and that's why he was under house arrest in the first place. He hacked his way into a Pentagon database and jeopardized a lot of soldiers lives. Maybe he really did find something when he was hacking into government databases."
Grimly, Brennan made a copy of the attachment and downloaded it onto a flash drive, "I'll show this to Booth tonight. He's more familiar with Pelant's case."
Rubbing her upper arms, Angela shook his head, "I hope this isn't true. If it is then this means that Hodgins has been right for years. I don't want him to be right."
"I agree." Placing the flash drive in her purse, Brennan turned to look at her friend, "I hope this isn't true either. If it is then we may all be in danger. I just wish I knew where to look for this gift that Pelant was talking about."
A feeling of unease washing through her, Angela spoke quietly, "Maybe it would be a good thing if you never find it."
Oooooooooooooooo
So is this interesting?
