Sorry for the wait, but I was having a few issues. One was figuring out this filler chapter. Two, I got a new job which has me workin the graveyard shift (3:30 pm to midnight) I am honeslty gonna try and update faster from this point on but if its not every few days, it may have to be every Saturday before I post a new chapter. Anyways I hope you enjoy this chapter, I really had trouble figuring it out. Like I said, its a filler chapter.

Chapter 43: Talks

Gwen's visual promise of talking with Cade held out. A couple of days after the incident with the Fomorrah, Cade was walking down to Arthur's chambers, when her arm was grabbed and she was pulled into a nearby room and came face to face with Gwen.

"Gwen!" Cade exclaimed. "What is it?"

"You went after Merlin didn't you?" she asked, though Cade was positive she knew the answer.

"I couldn't let Merlin go take care of that Fomorrah thing on his own." She said. "I'd never be able to forgive myself if he got killed. I came to Camelot to find my brother and that's what I've done."

Gwen sighed. "Cade, I'm sure Merlin is perfectly capable of taking care of himself. He's been working for Arthur for the past 3 years, so I don't think he needs his little sister looking after him."

"Gwen, you don't understand." Cade said. "Merlin's always looking out for me. Before we were separated and I was sent to live in Everwick, Merlin always looked out for me, especially when I got sick. This time, he was the one who needed help and I just had to."

Gwen looked at Cade, her brown eyes locking with Cade's green eyes. "I do understand how you feel, Cade." She said. "I've felt the same way towards my own older brother, especially after he became a knight. But, you have to understand, with men, if they have women, especially those related to them, watching out for them, it damages their pride, even if they won't admit it."

Cade looked down. "But, Gwen, I can't stand by and let Merlin get himself nearly killed. It's not in my nature."

Gwen put a hand on Cade's shoulder. "I understand, but just promise me you won't let yourself get killed in his place." Cade sighed, but looked up at Gwen and nodded. Gwen smiled. "Okay. Off you go. I'm sure Arthur is waiting for you, especially since Merlin is with George."

Cade smirked. "Yeah, you're probably right." Cad walked out of the room and resumed her walk to Arthur's chambers. When she arrived, she found that Arthur was still fast asleep. Grinning mischievously, she crept to the window, threw open the curtains than yanked the blankets off Arthur's body.

He jumped up, startled. "Merlin!"

"Nope, sire," Cade said. "He's still being 'taught'. It's just me."

"Caden!" Arthur exclaimed, his eyes finally landing on the grinning teenager at the end of his bed. "I thought I've told your idiot brother not to do that."

"Exactly, you told Merlin, not me, Arthur." Cade said, grinning wider. "Which means I'm free to wake you up in whatever manner I choose."

"When I say things like that to Merlin, it should be implied that I am also speaking to you as well."

"Not the way I hear things." Cade said, clasping her hands behind her back and then walking over to the King's desk. "Okay, now get your butt out of bed sire, because you've got a long day ahead of you."

"And you have a long list of chores, Caden, now that Merlin isn't here."

Cade's smile melted into a frown. "Oh. Yeah."

That evening, when Cade returned to Gaius's chambers, exhausted and covered in straw and muck, she found Merlin sitting at the dinner table, his face in his hands. Cade walked over to the table and sat across from him. She poked him lightly on the top of his head, which caused him to look up.

"Dull day with George?" she asked.

Merlin groaned. "You have no idea." Then he took in her appearance. "Arthur did a number on you with the chores didn't he?"

Cade looked at the straw and muck covering her tunic and jacket and sighed. "Oh yes. The prat's excuse was that since you weren't there, all the chores you normally do are my responsibility."

"Well, look on the bright side." Merlin said. "I'll finally be done with all this tomorrow and I can rejoin you and help you like I always do."

Cade grinned a little. "Only you cheat and use magic and even than you don't get it all done right."

Merlin reached across and playfully flicked Cade on the forehead, causing her to gasp. "If you ever get your magic under complete control, then maybe you would be able to do that too."

Cade shook her head. "Nah. I'd still do everything by hand so that I wouldn't risk getting caught."

Merlin rolled his eyes. The door opened again and in walked Gaius. He grinned at his niece and nephew. "Well, judging from your appearances, I'd say you two had long days." Said people glared at Gaius and he chuckled. "How about I make us dinner than, after you clean up, Cade, you two can head on to bed."

"Sounds nice." Merlin said, grinning widely.

"Agreed." Cade said with a vigorous shake of her head.

So, how was it? I thought it would be a good idea to put that little moment between Merlin and Cade since I don't really show you guys just how close they truly are. I also had fun writing the part where Cade basically takes Merlin's place at bothering the heck outta the king. I haven't ever shown that she can be just as snarky as her brother, maybe more so, she just chooses not to show it.

I know I probably don't deserve this, what with the long absence and all, but could you guys maybe leave a review?
