Chapter Fifty Four: Masquerade

"We can't let her get away with this, this has gone too far." Holly paced furiously around the Salvatore living room where Damon and Stefan were hearing her statements. "She killed me, she killed Caroline, and now she tried to kill my Aunt Jenna we need to stop her."

Damon and Stefan exchanged glances. "Katherine visited Caroline today."

"What did the bitch want?"

"The moonstone." Damon said. "Either we give it to her or she commits murder, but I don't want Katherine to achieve that so-"

"We're going to kill her tonight." Stefan said smugly. "At the masquerade ball."

"Good." Holly said as she grabbed her bag. She was picking up Aunt Jenna from the hospital. "I want to help."

"Hey come on in." Holly told Bonnie as she stood there holding the Grimore. Things between her and Bonnie hadn't really been great, but they were a lot less hostile which was an improvement.

"Hey," Bonnie said as she entered the Salvatore house. "I got Stefan's message. What's going on?" she trailed off when she saw Alaric, Caroline, and Damon pouring over weapons.

"We're going to kill Katherine." Jeremy said as he walked past her.

"I can explain." Stefan said noticing Bonnie's bewildered face. "We're going to kill Katherine."

"Does Elena know about this?"

Holly and Stefan looked at each other. "No, but when she does know she will be eternally grateful, besides Alaric is going to be on babysitting duty so that shouldn't be a problem. Katherine's life ends at the Masquerade ball."

"Dance with me." Stefan turned around later that night at the party and saw Katherine. She was wearing a short black dress and mask.

"No." Stefan said simply.

Katherine shrugged. "Then tell me who I should kill. My she looks delicious." Knowing that Katherine was far from a joking mood Stefan led her towards the dance floor. "It's a beautiful night."

"Why the charade?"

"How is Aunt Jenna, I didn't expect her to survive that, how does one stab herself?" Stefan didn't respond. "And how's Holly, she's surely adapting better that I thought possible but we both know that behind that tough girl act she really is a weakling. How long do you think until she finally breaks?"

Stefan tightened his grip around Katherine's waist. "She's not going to break."

Katherine cocked an eyebrow. "Isn't she? Stanger dreams, Damon, a targeted sister, a depressing brother, and little old me. Come on Stefan we both know she's going to break. Now where's the moonstone?"

"I don't have it with me, we need to go get it together."

"Change of plans." Katherine said. "Why don't you go get it and I stay here? Tick tock Stefan get the moonstone, or I will make you regret it."

An hour later Katherine pushed the doors open of an upstairs room where Caroline had supposedly told her where Bonnie was. She looked around the empty room. "Where is she?" she heard a giggle.

She turned around and saw Caroline laughing. "I really didn't think I would be able to fool you, but I did it."

Katherine rushed towards her, but was knocked back down. "What the-Stefan?"

Stefan appeared with a content smile on his face and holding a stake. "Hello, Katherine."

"Goodbye, Katherine." Caroline smirked as she walked away.

Katherine eyed the stake and almost laughed. "You don't really think you can kill me with that can you?"

"No." he looked up. "But they can."

Damon stood behind Katherine and shot a stake towards her back, Katherine bended down in pain. Holly who had been hiding in the opposite room vamp flashed towards her as she pinned Katherine against the wall, her fangs poking out. "Hello, Katherine."

"Holly." Holly jabbed a stake into her stomach.

"This was for Jenna." Katherine pushed Holly to the ground and Stefan used that moment to stake her in the arm. Holly used that opportunity to knock her on the ground, Stefan pinned her by her throat, and Damon was just about to drive a state through her heart when Jeremy suddenly came in gasping.

"Stop you're hurting Elena, everything you do to her is hurting Elena." Both Damon and Holly looked surprise as Stefan released Katherine and Katherine smirked turning to them.

"Jeremy go make sure that Elena is ok." Stefan ordered.

Katherine held up a stake over her stomach. "This is really going to hurt-"

"Wait!" Holly shouted.

"That's better. So how about the moonstone?"

"Well, this is an interesting change of events." Katherine looked around. "The brother who loved me too much, the one that didn't love me enough, and the ungrateful twin."

"I don't have to be grateful to you Katherine, just the opposite." Holly said coldly. It was still uncanny how much Katherine looked like her. It was weird. "You killed me."

"Please, I did you a favor we both know you hated being a human." Holly's jaw tightened. "Fine, be ungrateful. Now where's the moonstone."

"What do you want with it?" Stefan asked.

Katherine scoffed. "Does Elena enjoy having all three of you worship at her alter?"

"That was pathetic, Katherine." Damon scoffed.

"No, what's pathetic is that your slobbering all over Holly and you're not man enough to tell her." She said. "Don't you think I've noticed the lingering stares, the way she tells you everything. Don't be fools both of you."

Holly avoided Damon's eyes. Damon's jaw tightened. "Dammit, where's that witch?"

"What do you want with the moonstone, you must need it for something." Holly argued.

"Good for you, Holly two plus two." Katherine said sarcastically. "In 1864 I made a deal with George Lockwood, I gave him the stone and in return everyone thought I was in the tomb though they didn't thanks to you. Have I mention how inconvenient your obsession with me has been Damon?"

"You and me both, honey."

"A spell." Holly said clicking the stone to her dreams. "The stone has something to do with a spell."

Stefan turned to Katherine who looked annoyed. "Is that true?"

Katherine ignored the question as she turned towards Holly. "You know you're really starting to bug me." And then she snapped her neck.

"We're missing the party." Katherine groaned as she noticed that Damon was serving himself a glass of scotch. "I'll have one."

Damon said sarcastically. "Right away, Miss Katherine." He handed her the glass and Damon used that moment to pin her against the wall.

"Damon, no!" Stefan attempted to pull him back.

Katherine smirked. "Yes, Damon please."

"The second the spell is lifted I will drag a stake through your heart." Damon growled.

"God, you're hot when did you get so hot."

At that moment Holly revived as she sat up looking confused. That was the first time she had, had her neck broken.

Katherine looked at her. "About time, things were starting to get boring." She trailed off when she saw Lucy. She was holding the moonstone.

"Katherine, the spell in this room has been broken you are free to leave."

Katherine scoffed. "Thank God."

"The second I give this to you my debt is repaid, I owe you nothing."

"You can't give it to her." Holly blurted out.

"Shut up, Holly." Lucy placed the moonstone in Katherine's hand. Katherine's smile faded as she started twitching.

"You should have told me that another witch was involved Katherine." Lucy said her voice filled with hurt. "She's a Bennett witch Katherine, but I'm sure you knew that."

"Elena-"Stefan began.

"Elena is fine. I unlink her, she'll heal quickly." Katherine passed out on the floor. "I apologized for my inconvenience."

"Hello, Katherine."

Katherine opened her eyes slowly, she flinched when she realized that she was in the tomb. "Where am I?" she asked hoping to be wrong.

"Where you should have been all along." Damon said coldly. "I thought you would learn your lesson by now messing with a Bennett witch."

"You should have killed me." She snarled.

"Death would have been too kind." He walked towards the door.

"No, Damon don't. You need me Elena is in danger, your precious Holly's sister." She said desperately.

Damon paused. "From who?" she didn't answer. "You're lying, you're always lying."

"No! Why don't you think I haven't killed her, she's the doppelganger she needs to be protected."

"Then I'll protect her, while you rot in hell." He closed the door firmly ignoring Katherine's screams of protest.

"Yeah, Holly I got in my car." Elena said as she left a message for Holly, she was clutching her side. "Tell, Bonnie that I'm feeling better. I'm just going to go back home and go straight to bed." She hung up and Elena was just heading towards her car when she was grabbed by a man out of sight.
