Chapter 48: C'mon show me how much better you are
"Victor, Sarah, and Rufus. Best friends for eternity." I read.
"Is that it?" Alfie asked.
"The place to hide, ride with the tide, and stay until we die."
"Creepy!" Amber cried.
"So that means Victor knows about this place?" Joy questioned.
"It looks that way..." Jerome said.
"That would explain how Rufus found me... He knew where to look for me..."
"What did you say?" Joy asked, coming behind me, where I was standing alone.
"Joy! You scared me!"
"Why so jumpy?"
"Ok. Joy, please stop. You're creeping me out..."
"I know you're hiding something. You always are..." She started walking in circles.
"Joy. Stop. It's not funny."
"I'm aware. I know something's up. I heard 'Rufus'. What did Rufus? Do Nina and Jerome know about it? Do I have to get everybody else?"
"Joy. This really isn't the time for this."
"Oh, it's always the time for this."
"Joy, back off. Patricia doesn't have time for this." Amber came over."
Thank you, I mouthed.
"Alright, Barbie- I mean Amber." Joy walked away.
"You're going to let her get away with that?"
"Yeah. It doesn't matter. I mean, who cares what she thinks? She's starting to turn into as big of a bitch as Annie."
"Agreed."
"So, what did she want?"
"I'll tell you later."
"So, we've already hit a dead end." Nina said when we were in our room with Jerome and Fabian.
"It looks that way. No clues or anything, just the room and the writing." Fabian replied.
"This really sucks." I sighed.
"What are we going to do?" Jerome asked.
"Sleep." I replied simply.
"Sleep...?" Fabian questioned.
"Yeah. If we're lucky, something will come to us in our dreams."
"At... Eight o'clock?"
"Ok, Fabian. To put this politely... Shut up or leave."
Jerome laughed.
"That was politely?"
"Fabian."
"Ok. Ok. I'll be quiet."
"I didn't mean right now. I meant at ten, like always. We just need to stop worrying about it."
"I agree."
"Ok, but I can't promise I won't think about it." Jerome said, and Fabian nodded, since I forbid him from talking. "I love you."
"Love you, too."
He kissed me and left. Fabian did the same thing to Nina without talking.
"He does know he's allowed to talk now, right?" I looked over at Nina.
"No..." We both laughed.
"Didn't you read the clue?" Sarah asked me.
"Clue? There was no clue. Just something about you, Victor, and Rufus."
"Ride with the tide, Patricia! Don't you remember!?"
"That was the clue? How is that supposed to help us?"
"Think, girl! Think! You need to find it before he does! He will use it for all the wrong reasons! Evil will overtake good if you do not hurry!" She was more frantic now. Sarah was almost yelling.
"Sarah. I'm sorry. I wish I could, but I think you've got the wrong person..."
"No, Patricia! It is-"
Then I saw the most horrifying thing any human could every see.
