Highlight woke up, her teal eyelids thick and heavy with sleep. She looked at the next bed over, I forgot Silver Moon slept over last night, she thought silently, I don't even remember when that stargazer went to bed. Highlight yawned and stood up from the warm safe-haven of her bed, then went over and nudged her friend with her wing. Silver Moon, the ice blue sleepyhead, opened her eyes just barely, and then closed them and rolled over again, murmuring quietly. " C'mon stargazer," the teal filly nosed her friend's shoulder, "time for school." "I don't wanna go to school!"Silver Moon whispered sleepily. Highlight glanced over at her vanity mirror, there sat a medium-sized decorated box with a handle, she grabbed it and held it by her snoozing friend, "I have makeup and I know how to apply it." she said with the handle still in her mouth. Silver Moon immediately jumped out of bed, " Don't even think about it!" the skinny filly growled. "Well at least let me do you hair." Highlight chuckled, grabbing her hairbrush. "Fine," Silver Moon said unenthusiastically, while grabbing her stuffed lion , "but no glitter". Highlight rolled her eyes and started brushing Silver Moon's creamy white mane, and then her and then her own hot pink mane. Once she finished styling herself she placed her hairbrush and rat-tailed comb in her mint-green shoulder bag, then glancing at her blank flank, Maybe today is the day is earn my cutie mark, she thought to herself.

At school, Miss Cherrilee started talking about the importance of having a pet. Highlight sat up straight the entire lesson, she may be the missing her cutie mark, but she was the only one in class that had a pet. Highlight raised her hoof "What if you already have a pet?" she asked, pointing to the ruby-throated hummingbird on her shoulder. Miss Cherrilee opened her mouth to speak, but Score interrupted, "Highlight, you know you are the only one in this school who already has their pet." He said matter-of-factly. Highlight blushed, letting her mane fall in her face. At recess Highlight took out her hair styling tools and handed them to Ruby, her pet hummingbird. " Who wants me to do their hair?" she called on the playground. Tons of fillies rushed up to her, but Silver moon just stood next to her, "You sure about this Highlight?" the pegasus asked. Highlight nodded, doing hair was her passion how could she not be sure?

No luck, She thought, looking at her flank after school, well , if I focus on hairstyling then maybe I'll earn my cutie mark. Silver Moon interrupted her thoughts "Can i come over later?" she asked. "Silver, you're at my house more than I am, but if you're mom says yes, then you can." Highlight said. Silver Moon rolled her eyes " Fine," she said pulling out her phone.
