Updated: 03 Sept 2005 I mainly prefer to read stories, as anytime I think I might have a good idea I think about it and remember that if not exactly the same, most of them are already out there as wonderfully written stories. The following paragraph is merely rhetorical, I am just asking and stating my opinion. Whether anyone ever reads this I might not know. I really hate when an author feels that they must threaten to receive reviews before posting a chapter because I feel that the author wanted there work to be read. If they didn't have faith in the story as it was, why post it? Why ask for readers to determine who you are making a couple? You should have enough faith in your own talent and skills that you post for the sake of giving a small portion of your talent and insight to the reader to take and try to understand where you are writing from. If you have hit a road block then ask for some guidance, but don't let the reader determine where it goes, you were the one with the idea. It is your story and should remain unique to you, not become polluted by the need to have over so many reviews or many people's hands guiding it. Yours should be the ones on the 'reins' so to speak, guiding your story from creation to finish. I have thought this starting only recently, because I used to almost always go and vote when asked to decide a couple. Now, now I prefer to sit back and like to see what preference the author has. Since I started feeling this way I have seen many pairings and thought that at the beginning of the story I wouldn't like it, but the stories swept me along(like all good or wonderful stories will). It turned out that I loved the story because the piece was well written, there was a 'motive' for everything being the way it was. The author had their reason for one character to be with the other, and the story flowed at a nice pace because the love was written into the story from the beginning. It wasn't just all of a sudden brought to life in 2 or 3 chapters. There are few authors out there that can get away with doing it that way, but they do because the chapters where that happens normally turn out very long and excellently worded. I guess I should leave it there before I go to in depth and start babbling for no reason. I wish all new writers (and old) luck with all their works and hope they keep faith in their works and see them through to the end, no matter what their reviews say, because, though i hate to admit I am one, there are a majority of people that will read a story and wait some chapters to know whether they like it or not, and even if they do(I am one of the next types) forget to review it, or decide they will review when the last chapter is posted and praise the work then. Although there are some authors out there that can get away with a cliffhanger for over a year (cough Didi cough) before one of the background people decides they want the next chapter enough to 'blackmail' the person into posting. I said I was done and I wound up babbling, oh well. Can't blame me to much. I am stressed and about to start working a very weird schedule that I have no idea how it works yet. Any questions? None? OK:) |
