Darcy's horse casts a shoe while riding to Pemberley which causes him to miss encountering Elizabeth Bennet who is touring the estate. Thus he is unable to show her his change in behaviour, fails to learn of her improved opinion of him, fails to meet the Gardiners, and fails to learn what happens to Lydia. Sequel to Childhood Impressions. Misunderstandings sunder the childhood friendship of Darcy and Elizabeth. Now an independent young woman, Lizzy must work to regain her old friend – who has become the cold-hearted master of Pemberley. Meanwhile, Georgiana falls in love with her piano master and Jane falls in love with Bingley.

Darcy does not accompany Bingley to Netherfield. Therefore, he does not meet Elizabeth until his first trip to Rosings, resulting in some major changes to the way their relationship develops.

Transparency proves dangerous when Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy face life-changing consequences as a result of his defense of Lydia.

Shortly after the engagements at the end of Pride and Prejudice, Mr. Bingley takes a brief trip to London, where he drops certain remarks which lead to rumors about Darcy's engagement.

When an unexpected event disrupts the Netherfield ball, Mr. Darcy finds out that leaving Hertfordshire and Elizabeth Bennet behind is more easily said than done.

We read the year 1801. August the 1st, French troops came ashore in Brighton. Nobody could stop them and five days later the news are reaching Pemberley while Geoffroy d'Arcy, French commander in chief, meets Jane in Rosings. Not without consequences.

The final chapter! Lizzy and Darcy meet as children...cementing a deep friendship that will carry them through the years.
