Putting down my oldest, never-going-to-end stories. The ones going down are "My Shy Little Office Boy" (published 12-24-08, last update 12-30-08) and "A Little too Perfect" (published 6-7-09, last updated 6-15-09). The rest of the completed ones are being read through and somewhat improved - not rewritten, though. Then I'm completing any incompleted stories I have before posting new ones. Yup. You heard it. I'm getting serious. Or at least, I'm trying... I've missed out on a lot, and now ffn won't even send me updates on mail... how rude of it. :/ I'm trying to find the cause of that...

WAYS OF SPEACH:

In my stories you might encounter different Japanese ways of speech and how to address someone. Not everyone understands all of it, so here I have written down a list with what I managed to dig up.

-san: (Example: Haruno-san) A very common way of addressing which may be translated to Mr., Mrs., miss, and so on… Used everywhere where politeness is required.

-sama: (Example: Tsunade-Sama) More formal than –san and expresses respect.

-dono: (Example: Namikaze-Dono) Comes from the word ‘tono’ which means ‘Lord’. Even more formal and respectful than –sama.

-kun: (Example: Sasuke-kun) Used in the end of a boy’s name to express closeness. Sometimes the ending is used between male-friends, or when addressing a younger person or someone of lower status.

-chan: (Example: Sakura-chan) Expresses closeness, mainly of girls. Also used for small boys, pets or between lovers. The ending holds a form of childish cuteness.

Sempai: (Example: Neji-sempai, or just sempai) Title which expresses respect for a superior. Often used in schools, where younger students mention to the older students as sempai or in work-life directed at colleagues with longer experience.

Kohai: (Example: Ino-kohai, or just kohai) the opposite of sempai and used to address someone of lower status.

Sensei: (Example: Kakashi-sensei, or just sensei) Means ‘someone who has been walking in front’, and is used as title for teachers, doctors and other professional workers.

Teme: An extremely rude way of saying ‘you’.

Usuratonkachi: Usuratonkachi - (literally) Hammer-head (This dates back to an old Japanese term/saying, which, in any sense, means 'hard-headed' or 'thick-skulled'). ‘Usura’ means something along the lines of ‘dim-wit’, stupid, etc. ‘Tonkachi’ means ‘hammer’. Usuratonkachi may also me translated as other things like ‘moron of morons’.

Dobe: means something along the lines of "loser" or "dead last". Iruka uses it to point out Naruto having the worst grades (being the dead last) of the class when graduating, and Sasuke uses it as a simple insult. I'm not completely sure about this term yet, but I still dare to use it.

Bozu: The informal way of addressing a boy. It’s much like the English ‘kid’.

Baa-chan: Means ‘Old Lady’. It’s put together by ‘Baa’ which is an honorific used for old people and ‘chan’. It may also be translated as ‘Grandmother’, but a more polite way of saying it would be ‘Obaa-chan’.

- (nothing): This is called yobisute, and is perhaps the greatest difference between Japanese and English. When the addressing-form (like –san, -chan, etc.) is left out, it means that the one talking has the permission to be intimate. Usually this only occurs between family or close friends. Used in other contexts, yobisute will be seen as a bloody insult. (Naruto proves that... he's insulting Sasuke the whole freaking time...)
