When the team decides to take a job out in the desert, Gray is reluctant to commit. That is, until Natsu starts teasing him and his stubborn streak flares up. Now a challenge has been issued and Gray isn't going to back down...not even if it kills him.

The first sign that something wasn't quite right was when Gray refused a fight. Before Natsu has the chance to figure out what's going on, Gray rushes out on a mysterious errand, leaving the dragon slayer to chase after him.

When one of Gray and Natsu's fights takes a serious turn, both of them end up crossing the line. But Natsu really says something that threatens to destroy whatever bond they have, and it's up to him to convince Gray that their friendship was never a lie and is still worth saving.

Juvia is eighteen when she is told about her marriage to the Duke of Winter, a man she never met but must marry to save her lands and to finally see more of the world. Gray, the Duke, knows he must wed her since his grandfather promised he would when time came; he doesn't want her. Doesn't want anyone. Will this forced union be just for duty or something else can bloom? [AU]

Prompted by Lucy's questions and Erza's reminiscences, Natsu comes to the conclusion that he and Gray were, in fact, awfully close for a while as kids. But something happened to change their once-open friendship. Natsu isn't sure what caused the change, but he knows that it was Gray who initiated it and he's determined to finally get to the bottom of it.

Perhaps Ultear still had a few lingering regrets or a moment of doubt and sadness every once in a while, but for the most part, she's settled into her new life quite happily. And then one day someone from her old life drops by unexpectedly for a visit.

Gray was Natsu's rival, and he wouldn't make a good rival if he was weak. Everyone might think he was weak after his humiliating defeat in the first round of the Grand Magic Games, but Natsu knew better, and he would make sure that Gray did too. And Gray might just be able to return the favor the next day.

Side stories to "The Third Time". Because although Gray was still a little broken at the edges and there would always be more times for grieving, Natsu had promised that he would always be there so that they could figure things out together.

Gray hasn't been sleeping well after the Galuna Island debacle, and when he has another nightmare while on a job, Natsu wants to know what's wrong. It turns out that Gray is upset over more than just the memory of his dead family and old master.

Gray didn't recognize the little old lady on the side of the road at first, but when he did, he stopped the carriage. After all, Ultear shouldn't have to think that her life was only worth a single minute unless she knows how valuable that one minute really was.

After returning from Edolas, Natsu finds himself thinking about how the Natsu and Gray in that world seem to share a much closer friendship than the Natsu and Gray in Earthland. Gray unknowingly helps him realize that he's actually had everything he's wanted all along.

Maybe Roy Mustang and Riza Hawkeye were tied together from the very beginning. Maybe they were always destined to be in each other's lives, for good or bad. Maybe they never had a chance.
