I am Melon.

I like deep character development, A-plot emphasis, and moments of stark power, both tiny and tremendous. I have a Dickensian tendency to cram as many words into a single sentence as I possibly can. I am fascinated by generational stories, seeing how the past influences the present, and how the people who influenced us as children shape who we become, and how that in turn shapes the turn of the world. I am a complete sucker for a pure spirit and a noble heart, but find that throwing in a variety of contrasting (and occasionally extremely dark) characters surrounding this point of light makes for a much more fascinating story. Does it surprise you now that I love ATLA?

The November Challenge

I recently issued a challenge to the Kataang subfandom regarding the amount of quality epicfic written around the Kataang pairing. For the long story, feel free to read my original post about it. For the short story, here's the deal. The Kataang fandom is full of really talented writers. There's plenty of people out there with the chops to write some really good fanfiction, and they do. Unfortunately for people who occasionally get tired of fluffy oneshots and want to sink their teeth into something with a little more meat in it, there are a pretty limited number of epic-length fics with Katara and Aang as the central pairing. And a significant number of those are either abandoned and destined to be forever unfinished, or they were completed long ago and anybody who's been in the fandom longer than a year has read most of them (some of them several times).

So I've issued a challenge to my fellow Kataang writers. November, as most writers on the internet know, is NaNoWriMo. I'm challenging every Kataang writer out there who is willing and able to do so to take the month of November and pound out a Kataang epic of 50,000 words or more. It sounds like a lot, but when you stop to think about it, that only amounts to an average of 2,000 words per day throughout the month. Sounds doable, right? I'll be writing my Bloodbending AU for this challenge, and I estimate that that will take somewhere between 100,000 and 300,000 words (probably closer to the latter) if I do the story justice. I hope some of you will join me in contributing more epicfic to our fandom, if you're able to.

Furthermore, if you have the time and inclination to join me in this challenge, but don't have any plot ideas to work with, I have plenty and I'm willing to loan them out. If you're interested, look the list over and message me either here or on Tumblr if you'd like to borrow one of my plots.
