![]() Name: Dark Wolf Greigar. Age: 908. Sex: Yes Please! Likes: I have a few... Dislikes: Have some of those too... Hobbies: You're too young to know about those. Dreams: Haven't really thought about it. Rants: From Kythorian, There are many things I enjoy about Harry Potter. But the single largest thing I do NOT like about the Harry Potter series is that Harry is completely useless throughout. He isn't really much of a hero, just a martyr, willingly allowing himself to be sacrificed for others over and over again, but just happening to survive through sheer dumb luck. Really, Harry is an extremely average wizard who is expected to do exceptional things over and over again. The fact that he trips his way from accidental victory to accidental victory just makes him a protagonist with truly exceptional plot armor, not an actual heroic character. That's not to say I don't appreciate a character willing to go against great odds and defy more powerful and numerous enemies, but his success should be based on his own efforts. His own power, his own cunning, rising up to defeat his more powerful enemies. Instead, we have Harry just 'happened' to survive the unsurvivable killing curse because his mother did something thousands of parents and loved ones have done throughout history. His protection of love 'happened' to manifest to defeat Quirrell with no previous indication that such a thing existed. The Basilisk 'happened' to commit suicide by diving onto the mostly stationary and entirely unskilled Harry who just held up the sword and let the basilisk kill itself. This following the Phoenix doing all of the actual fighting while Harry stood there. In book 3, Hermione just 'happens' to have TIME TRAVEL at her fingertips to fix the screw-ups of the night. The entirely random and unprecedented 'priori incantatem' saves him in book 4. He does nothing except run around and get Sirius killed in book 5, so no need for plot armor to even save him then. In book 6, again...he does nothing except watch as Dumbledore commits suicide. And in book 7, his plot armor saves him twice and even goes ahead and murders Voldemort for him. First with the Horcrux taking the AK, than the elder wand refusing to act against its master...something that was once again determined based on Harry's luck. So we don't have a hero who does anything except be an average wizard, with the finger of god coming down to save him whenever he needs it. If anything, Hermione should be the hero of the series. She actually does stuff, even if its pretty small, by figuring out the various puzzles in each book. Or perhaps Dumbledore is the hero? He was a manipulative bastard, but he managed to arrange events to play out to voldemort's death a year after his death. That's impressive, if nothing else. But in reality, the hero of the story is simply Lady Luck, AKA J.K. Rowling. That's a little pathetic no matter how you look at it. Honestly, Harry might as well have waited for each of the Horcruxes to be randomly hit by lighting, then for Voldemort to trip and break his neck, rather than even bothering to try. There would have been about the same degree of luck involved, just in a slightly less complicated manner. I get that she wanted to make Harry seem ordinary in order to be identifiable with other school children. Just a regular kid plus magic, in extraordinary circumstances. But Harry is supposed to be Voldemort's equal...In what way is that the case? They had similar childhoods, but then Tom Riddle went on to excel at all he touched in school. Of course that's my SECOND big problem with the series. As much as I hate that Harry ends up being entirely ordinary, and depends entirely on luck, I equally hate how pathetic Voldemort turns out to be. He is built up to be this all powerful master of magic. What he turns out to be is a completely insane moron who's planning ability is on par with a six year old, and who isn't really all THAT powerful anyway. Really, he just relies on the fear everyone has for him. Given that Harry, an unexceptional 14 year old can at least hold him off until luck carries him to safety, at WORST, two average aurors working together could take him down. The only two spells he actually seems to know are avada kedavra and crucio. And the death eaters are even worse. Really it says a lot more about how pathetic the wizarding world is than how dangerous the death eaters are. So the series comes down to Lady Luck fighting against a group of incompetents in order to defend the even greater incompetents. I'm pretty sure that's not what you actually want a seven book series to boil down to when you look at it closely. I believe this is the primary reason there is so much Harry Potter fanfiction. Not because so many people absolutely adore the series (though I'm not saying they are not worth reading. They ARE good books, in spite of the above issues), but because people read Harry Potter and they see so many ways that Harry should have been a better hero. That Voldemort should have been a better villain, for that matter, and they just itch to fix it somehow. At least that is my experience. So in all of my series, Harry will be that better hero. More powerful, more intelligent, more cunning...truly exceptional in some way. On the flip side, Luck will not particularly favor him (this is where many fanfiction authors fail. They make Harry much more powerful, and even MORE lucky than in cannon), and Voldemort and his death eaters will actually be as dangerous as their reputation suggests(either more powerful, more cunning, or something...), or possibly there will be an entirely different primary enemy than Voldemort. From xNamikazeKyuubix, Reasons why I don't support NaruHina 1. Extremely overused pairing. Filter it into the criteria and you get 430 pages with 25 stories per page, that's 10,750 stories with that pairing (not even counting those in crossovers). Compare that to my favourite pairing of Naruto x Female Kyuubi, only has 60 pages with 25 stories per page that is only 1500 stories (which of that, not all are female Kyuubi and not all are pairing stories). And people have the nerve to review saying that Fem!Kyuubi is overdone... 2. Ridiculous settings. Hinata loves Naruto because she admired him throughout the academy as a source of inspiration and courage, correct? Then please tell me why the fuck that a Naruto who had been trained away from the village during his childhood, still has Hinata falling for him when he comes back to take the Genin Exams?! That's the same as saying she is a shallow fangirl attracted to looks and 'coolness'... 3. Ridiculous OOCness. Naruto influenced by Kyuubi to leave the village, develops a deep set hatred for Konoha, falls for Hinata?! Dafuq did I just read? Naruto banished by the village, joins another village, marries Hinata?! What the fuck? Naruto banished for failing the Sasuke retrieval mission, Hinata just ups and decides to abandon her family, friends and village to follow him?! The same Hinata who couldn't form a coherent sentence in his presence?! 4. Naruto himself. Many NaruHina fans fail to see Naruto as an actual living character, choosing to blindly look at Hinata only. Naruto has his own feelings and preferences, which has been shown in canon. It's quite obvious that Naruto's personality quirks are a mixture of his parents, his expressive, out-spoken and brash attitude from Kushina. His learning curve, battle instincts, ramen obsession and taste in women from Minato. Name a redhead in Konoha... none right? Name the closest person with reddish hair... Sakura right? Minato loves Kushina's red hair and Naruto has a crush/love on Sakura, whose hair is the closest thing to red in their village. 5. Naruto's feelings. Due to his lack of a proper upbringing in canon, Naruto is basically ill-informed and dense like a rock. Despite that, he clearly expresses his feelings for Sakura (not saying I support NaruSaku, just a logical explanation of canon). What NaruHina fans are doing is taking a one-sided relationship and declaring that it is mutual, which is not the case at all! When has Naruto ever shown any form of attraction to Hinata, better yet, HOW many times have they actually interacted with each other?! He obviously is not attracted to Hinata so please stop the 'a beautiful girl with midnight blue hair in a hime-styled cut and lavender eyes, he knew it was love at first sight'... Naruto has seen Hinata multiple times... none of which has EVER left him googly-eyed... 6. Hinata's confession. Naruto completely ignored it... not even bothering to confront her about it after the defeat of Nagato. Hell, he didn't even bother to check up on her condition... (I know Nagato had revived everyone but if he cared, he would have shown at least some form of concern). 7. Hinata's feelings. Her love stemmed from admiration, she admired him for his persistent attitude and courage. She claims that watching him improve makes her want to better herself, using him as a source of inspiration. Now does that sound like lovers love or sisterly love hmm? Very much like how a younger sister idolises her 'amazing' elder brother and trying to improve so as to impress him and gain his approval hmm? Her feelings are easy to write-off as sisterly...
