Author has written 1 story for Umi no Misaki/海の御先. Hello. My name is Matt. I am a United States Marine and I have created this account and will be posting my fanfiction here for two reasons. 1) My current reader pool consist of only my close friends and family. Due to this I fear that the feedback and comments I receive are either biased or 'padded' out of concern for my feelings. Speaking of my feelings the Chaplain is not convinced that I posses the capacity for 'feelings' and has determined your concern for them commendable but unwarranted. 2) My brother, Daniel, a Staff Sergeant in the Marines, was killed February 14 2009 while on patrol in Afghanistan. Together he and I had done several incomplete pieces of work that I now wish to begin sharing with everyone. These are open to comment as well, however there are a few that he worked on by himself that I will not be changing. Alright people, please understand. I do not feel that I have a talent for writing so your comments/flames, I hope, will only make me better. I write because it is entertaining to me and I like the idea of having made something with my free time. Also I HATE WIMPY MALE PROTAGONIST! Can you really be the hero of the story when only your female counterparts ever stand up and fight. Now, now, I didn't say that I don't like strong female characters, quite the contrary or that it's not okay to have a flaw. I mean everyone has a character flaw... I just haven't found mine yet, but I'm sure I have one. BUT COME ON! Maybe it's because of my indomitable confidence and overly aggressive personality but characters like Shinji (NGE) or any other characters that could only benefit the series by ending their pathetic lives should not have the role as main character. These are the ones I typically replace with an OC (Original Character). This is why I also LOVE reading stories with a Marine as a character, I HATE when someone makes a Marine character and screws up the lingo. For you few that have made or are thinking of making a Marine based character I will now list some very important 'faux paus' that you should not do when a Marine Character/Personality is involved. -Marines only call Sergeants 'Sergeant'! A Gunnery Sergeant is called a Gunnery Sergeant or 'Gunny' for short. Calling any of a higher pay-grade anything other than Sergeant a Sergeant would likely result in a broken nose. -NOONE in the Marine Corps would ever say 'Sarge' NEVER! Thats only the Army. -Speaking of Army that brings up another point. Marines are called many things. Marine, Devil, Devil-Dog, Killer, Grunt, Jarhead, Leatherneck, Teufelhunden, Groundpounder...ect. -Another misunderstood term. In the Marine Corps we use what are called Navy Corpsmen. They are Sailors by birth but in our eyes any Corpsmen that can send rounds downrange AND patch up the holes in our bodies is due his respect. That is why if we are ever injured we call out for a 'Corpsmen' or 'Doc' you will not hear a Marine call for a Medic. I hate that on video games too. -Misnaming or misusing a weapon. This kills me! Things like; belt fed M-16s, reloading an AT-4, destroying a tank with a rifle, firing the M-2 Heavy Machine Gun from the hip(Yes, even as a cyborg this is impossible because there is no pistol grip and the 'trigger' is located at the very back), and C4 that goes off when shot. When in doubt of the name just stick to the basics; Rifle, Light Machine Gun, Medium Machine Gun, Heavy Machine Gun, Rocket launcher, Pistol, knife. And for those of you who do this, and there is a lot. No member of the armed services is allowed to bring their own firearms on a mission. This includes but is not limedted to Rifles, Swords(to a gunfight?), Pistols, muskets (seriously, who does that), shotguns. Essentially if it wasn't issued to you, you wont be going to battle with it. The only exception would be a knife, but even then whats wrong with the K-Bar? I know you civilians don't know all that stuff but it's okay because I'm here now. So go ahead and ask folks. I will keep updating this as I feel that need so please let me know what else you would like to see on here. I also take suggestions. Semper, Me |
