Lovecraft About me: I'm a huge fan of Horror, Fantasy, and Syfy. I most enjoy characters who walk the line between evil and good without fully deviating into one path or another. My pastimes include D&D, Card Games, Chess, Anime, and Programming. I have a slightly off-putting dark sense of humor. Rape should only be used when the author intends to actually incorporate it into the story. It should also be handled with care to avoid alienating potential readers. Far too many authors use it for shock value. These rules also apply to mental illness. 2. Overpowered characters are not inherently bad. 3. Killing characters only for shock value, and for no other purpose, is a lazy way to produce emotions from your audience. 4. Deus-Ex-Machinas are incredibly lazy. 5. Never leave plot lines or a character's development unfinished. 6. Having characters do stupid things or act out of character for no other reasons than that the plot demands it is lazy writing. 7. Mysteries should always have hints, no matter how small, towards the true answer. 8. Obvious answers to mysteries are not inherently bad as long as they make sense. 9. Always have an outline for your story, never make it up as you go along. My favorite fictional characters (In no particular order): 1. Nyarlathotep (Lovecraft) 2. Shinji Ikari (Evangelion) 3. Guts (Berserk) 4. Griffith (Berserk) 5. Thanos (Marvel) 6. Spawn (Spawn) 7. Ainz Ooal Gown (Overlord) 8. Akira Fudo (Devilman Crybaby & Devilman) 9. Ryo (Devilman Crybaby & Devilman) 10. Stain (MHA) 11. Endeavor (M) 12. Light Yagami (Death Note) 13. Ryuk (Death Note) 14. L (Death Note) 15. Superman (DC) 16. Thor (Especially the Unworthy version) 17. Peter Parker (Marvel) 18. Dr. Doom (Marvel) 19. Dr. Strange (Marvel) 20. Hulk (Marvel) 21. Darth Revan (SWKOTOR 1) 22. Darth Maul (SWTCW) 23. Darth Kreia (SWKOTOR 2) 24. Ahsoka Tano (SWTCW) 25. Bojack Horseman (Bojack Horseman) 26. Hannibal Lector (Hannibal Franchise) 27. Batman (All properties) 28. Aang (ATLA) 29. Zuko (ATLA) 30. Korra (TLOK) 31. Midoriya Izuku (My Hero Academia) 32. Shigaraki Tomura (My Hero Academia) 33. Todoroki Shoto (My Hero Academia) 34. Giorno Giovanna (Jojo's Bizarre Adventure) 35. Johnny Joestar (Jojo's Bizarre Adventure) 36. Funny Valentine (Jojo's Bizarre Adventure) 37. Fugo (Jojo's Bizarre Adventure) 38. Bruno Bucciarati (Jojo's Bizarre Adventure) 39. Enrico Pucci (Jojo's Bizarre Adventure) 40. Thorfinn (Vinland Saga) My thoughts on Shipping in general: Shipping as a concept is fine. If you're so invested in 2 characters relationships that you want them to end up together, that's a sign that the writer did their job of getting you to care about the character. It becomes a problem when you attack other people for disliking your ship, and when you use a ship to live out unhealthy relationships. Shipping and romantic relationships should also never be the main focus if you're not writing in the love genre. It's fine to have it in a story, just don't let it detract from the story you're trying to tell. |
