Author has written 2 stories for Bionicle, Harry Potter, and Soul Eater. Wow. Okay. I said I would work on stuff, and then before I knew it University had started. That is pretty amazing. I mean, seriously, wow. I suck. Sorry guys and gals. Anyhow, over the course of my break I've thought a fair bit about my writing. For the most part, I've been sucked into the typical trap of laziness, underconfidence, and distractions. That useless navel-gazing aside, there have been a few major events (well, as major as they can be for a spoiled middle-class Canadian who doesn't need to pay for a living yet) that have contributed to my lack of writing; First, I've expanded my horizons onto the more caustic parts of the internet. TV Tropes and the like has corrupted me, and I've partaken in more than my fair share of caustic self-destruction. Seriously guys, if you want to write properly then you cannot under ANY CIRCUMSTANCES partake in more than your required amount of criticism. It's an invaluable tool to a writer, but soaking up too much of it can (and will) stifle your work. And secondly, I've just stopped liking some of the things I used to. I'm still a huge fan of Avatar and Bionicle, and I've become more appreciative of works like the Walking Dead and Persona (whether I'm a bigger fan of 3 or 4 is not a question I can answer, unfortunately.) On the other hand, I've lost that same appreciation for a lot of works I liked when I was younger, namely Naruto and Harry Potter. I don't hate either of them at all, but the former just makes me whine about series length and how much content is really necessary for a kid's show about ninjas, while the latter has been somewhat spoiled to me by Alan Moore's take on it and the many, many bizarre fanfics. (no offense to anyone in my audience who writers Harry Potter fanfiction of their own, I am referring solely to the more infamous and stomach-churning stories.) So yeah. That's happened. I'm still working on that. I apologize. I'm super glad and super flattered that people still look at my stuff! Thank you guys for everything! |
