![]() Author has written 6 stories for Lord of the Rings, Twilight, Spiderwick Chronicles, and Death Note. Occupation: Fangirl, somehow NOT into Anime Haunting Thoughts: Starting to realize there is no magical moment when you become an adult Hobbies: Writing, Reading, Vid Making, Doll Making, Independent Film, etc. More: I can't believe I've been here at Fanfiction.net for eight years! I should be working for them by now. I wasn't always faithful at least six of the eight years were spent at other sites with plans never to return after the change. Does anyone remember how it used to be here? Way back when there were sections like Bands and Actors? Yes, I understand that is terrible and politically incorrect. But it all kept my teenage years colorful before fandom became so big, before Harry Potter. Haha I used to hang out in Linkin Park a lot, reading the most twisted Mike/Chester Stories ever written. I also favored Blink182 where Mark/Tom was all the rage. I wrote then, for those fandoms, bad hookups and plot holes abound. Then before the change I wrote a long two part story for The Backstreet Boys section. I was never much of a fan, it was more of a random inspiration to lift me from the funk. Then it happened Bands, Actors and NC-17 fics were banned. Though the last didn't matter much NC-17 fics could still hide under M. All of my stories were deleted from the site. Save a two part LOTR romp, which lost its second part due to “poorly chose title”? The title was too suggestive yet they left the other part up. It's still here not terrible but something to look back at and see how I've grown. Within the last month (March 2008) I have written three Spiderwick fictions. It's strange out of nowhere the movie hit me and I needed to read Jared/Simon slash. When I found none my fingers took the lead. I dusted off the old word processor and let ideas flow. Short at first then more, until now my mind is screaming. The results were pleasant. Maybe I can get it back, start writing again. The fandom has been lovely to me, somehow for them in this particular set of books. Slash is an undiscovered possibility. I thought EVERY fandom had a slash OTP. It's easiest entering a small fandom (total stories less than 150). I don't feel the intimidation I would writing for something like Twilight, or Harry Potter. Strongly Supported Ships: Spiderwick Jared/Simon Artemis Fowl Arty/Butler (Yeah, I'm gonna marry Artemis... the books are preset day so by now he'd be 18-19ish) A Series of Unfortunate Events Violet/Klaus Thief Lord Scipio/Prosper Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Charlie/Wonka Tokio Hotel Bill/Tom (Naturally) Eragon Eragon/Murtaugh High School Musical Chad/Ryan (Chyan) Queer as Folk Brian/Mike Drake and Josh Twilight Lord of the Rings Harry Potter What I like to read in Fanfiction: My fiction tends to lean to the darker end of the spectrum if only slightly. Angst, Pain, Obsession, Hurt/Comfort and underneath that Love a few of my favorite themes. I like to be kept guessing and thrown for a loop at the end. Fanfiction Pet peeves: I don't particularly have a problem with one shots, I like to get down to the "good stuff" as much as the next person. But reading that over and over with no substance gets old. This happened to me literally once. I found a writer here (no names) who had actually written one story a four paragraph poorly detailed romp and posted it to about six fandoms, only changing the characters names. I like to think that if you can take a story, change the names and have it work for multiple fandoms it is obviously too generic. I've also read some breath taking one shots, not for the obvious reasons but because the author took the time to explain why it was happening, and detail things like background, and character thoughts. All more important than the act itself. Nasty words and Profanity. If you are writing a slash scene a certain level of vocabulary is necessary, understood. However be creative, excess profanity and use of derogatory terms to describe intercourse just shows a lack of knowledge and maturity. Time is your friend. I know the excitement of finally finishing that story you've been working so hard on. You NEED to post it now and get all the wonderful feedback that makes your terrible day at school or work bearable. You'll get more feedback if you sit on the story. And by this I mean a story is never really finished. It can always be improved. Leave your story alone on your computer, or in your notebook for a day. Come back re-read it and I'm sure you will find some mistake or a word that could be changed to accentuate a point in the story. It has been said before but Spell check is your lover. Unfortunately, love is not all you need, automated spell check does not replace a close eye. I strive daily to become a better writer. Often, I feel the sting of jealousy when I read stories that are "perfect" to me. It's true no one ever really sees their own work correctly, but we can all get better. Let's help each other!
