I take my favorite characters from my two favorite books (The Clique & Gossip Girl) and I re-imagine them.

THE STATE OF THE UNION

The State Of The Union is my updated version of the Clique. It is set after the last book - damn, I wished it could've went all the way to high school. I 'graduated' from reading a middle school book to the interests of high school content (Gossip Girl), and started thinking what these characters would be like if they were given the chance to grow up. The series ended with Massie Block moving away and everyone else entering High School. My story begins when Massie's family moves back from London to Westchester. I am huge fans of other clique fan writers but they always depict Massie as happy to be back after years and everyone rushing to accept her which never seemed likely to me. I mean it's Massie! Sis was living in London and had a clean slate. She could reinvent herself. And then there's the rest of the PC... I think this story stands out because I decided to bring out the worst in characters that were always seen as good, the best in characters that were looked down as well as exploiting characters we all (the OG clique fanbase) feel like we know so well.

THE FIVE

I am one of those people who re--watches Gossip Girl whenever the wind blows or the sun shines. For no particular reason. I am still pissed that Dan was Gossip Girl, Serena didn't end up with Nate and the last season had a total of 10 episodes instead of 20 something like the previous ones. I wanted to write about more of the society side of rich kids - since the Clique characters live a relatively normal life compared to Gossip Girl characters, but I didn't want the same pressure I felt when writing SOTU. I didn't want to continue writing about adult characters and I didn't want it to be a next generation story where I was inevitably just recreating the characters parents. Instead, I 'studied' the last season and decided to just modernize it. This story is set in reel time, 10 (or 5, since I do include that skip) years after the events of the last season. We already know Gossip Girl didn't end after Dan was revealed, instead someone new took over. Gossip Girls new reigning elites are based on the og's but amped up. You'll feel like you know them because you recognize their last name, and you'll learn to love them -- or hate them as the story progresses whilst getting nods at the og's and hints at where they have been all this time.
