Wowza. It's hard to believe that I've been a part of this community formally for nearly ten years. I'm hardly as active as I used to be. Life'll do that to you. I work for an environmental nonprofit as a grant writer and am a research assistant at an academic center. I just earned my Masters and have a research background in international development and security. I'm quite active in my local arts community as an avid painter. One of my leading passions is writing. I'm involved in a few local writing groups and really don't write much fanfiction anymore, but I always get drawn back here when I'm looking to tinker around with some my favorite fandoms. I love all varieties of literature, preferring mostly historical and speculative fiction. From my undergrad years, I developed a special interest in Modernism and Postcolonialism in literature, neither of which lend themselves well to fanfiction, but the aesthetics and themes of both movements are something that I like to explore in fanfiction. As of right now, I am reading Susanna Clarke's Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell. Some of my other favorite authors include Margaret Atwood, Nnedi Okorafor, Octavia Butler, and Neil Gaiman. Outside of fiction, I tend to read a lot of ecology and history books, travel writing, memoirs, and essays. One of my favorite memoirs of the moment is Martha Gellhorn's Travels With Myself and Another. As one of the first female war correspondents and an accomplished journalist all the way around, Gellhorn and her work are equally captivating.

Eleison: The best manipulator had been bested by the shy mouse that was his Ovelia. "Delita," she murmured, clinging to the dagger, "We're at an end of things."

Daggers in Men's Smiles: Denamunda prays in a small chapel on a snowy evening. (Originally, I'd intended for this to be a scene in Alis Volat Propiis as part of one of the major Denamunda chapters, but I felt I'd be taking away too much from the sense of the story being Ovelia's. Now, it's still up in the air, but I am considering after completing both Glimpses of Normalcy and Alis Volat Propiis, writing an expansive pre-FFT story based around Denamunda. It'll be fun for a change to write a story based around an anti-hero rather than your traditional starry eyed crusader for justice.)
