" I'm not sure why people compare books to fanfiction always in an unfavorable way. Fanfiction showed me that I could write exactly the sort of story that I want to read. With all of the thinking and feeling and talking and swooning.
I still find the pacing and focus of fanfiction to be more satisfying than most books. So when I say "This book reads is like fanfiction" I mean, "This book is giving me everything I want, with little regard for worn out conventions".
The thing I love most about fanfiction is the way things have time to breathe. So many traditionally published books are unpleasantly shackled to plot. Everything has to have a TICKING CLOCK. (If you try to sell a book, someone will use this phrase: WHERE IS THE TICKING CLOCK?)
Whereas, fanfiction is like, "You want to read 100, 000 words of two people stuck in a blizzard, working their shit out? PULL UP A CHAIR."
Where I'm going with this is -- "This original fiction is written like fanfiction" is what I'm looking for in a book. "
Et elle a entièrement raison.
