![]() Author has written 8 stories for Naruto, Star Wars, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Harry Potter, and My Hero Academia/僕のヒーローアカデミア. Hi. This is my profile, as you can see. I'm an eighteen year old male, and a senior in high school. My hobbies are playing tennis, acting, reading, writing, and playing video games. I tend to be somewhat lazy and I have a short attention span. You can blame those attributes on my ADHD; God/Gods/Force/Kami/Merlin knows I do. I rarely stick with one story for long, and I start new stories way too often. However, if I haven't officially abandoned a story, it means that I'm actively working on it. So have heart, and keep faith, even if I haven't updated on a certain story in months. I hope you enjoy my writing; constructive criticism and encouragement are both much appreciated. If you've enjoyed one of my fanfictions, please check out some of my others, even if they're based on an unfamiliar book, movie, or show. P.S. If you want to address me by account name, use either Oriks or OriksGaming; the gaming part is just an add on because Oriks is my gamer tag and I played a lot more MMOs back when I made this account. P.P.S. I don't think a lot of people have noticed, considering it's somewhat farther down on my profile, but I have created a community of my absolute favorites, to make it easier to find the best of the thousand plus fics that I've favorited over my years on this site. If you're interesting in looking it over, here's the link: OriksGaming’s Favorites. P.S.A. If you're not a native English speaker, or you know that your writing isn't perfect, and you want to write fanfiction, please, even if you don't want to put in the effort to find a beta, at least find a site that will correct your mistakes. To start with, I would suggest grammarly dot com or a similar site. I haven't used it much, because I'm generally very thorough when editing, but I know that many of you don't really seem to understand editing's importance. Consequently, this site or other sites like it should help out a lot. 3/16/17: I've had a few people asking when I'm going to update or if certain fics are discontinued. The respective answers are I don't know and no. At the moment, I'm balancing homework with spring tennis, which makes it difficult to find time for fanfiction writing. I'm also watching my dog slowly waste away and die, so I'm not very motivated/focused on fanfiction at the moment. Hopefully, I'll be able to get a new chapter out for Faded or Solve the Riddle sometime soon, but I'm offering absolutely no guarantees. 4/28/17: As of now, I will start deleting any (future) non productive guest reviews. So I'm not accused of cherry picking, this will be done for both positive and negative reviews with no constructive content. If you want to avoid this, either use an actual account or review with something at least mildly meaningful. No, that doesn't mean baseless insults, like some guests have taken to doing. And honestly, I don't understand why someone would just call me something like an irredeemable idiot in a guest review. No explanation, no nothing. Just . . . if you're trying to get me to write again or fix something in my story, your anonymous and pointless review really isn't helping with that. If you're trying to get me to quit writing fanfiction for some reason, what's your vendetta against me, and why should I care about an anonymous opinion? I'm not the kind of person who'll quit something because of peer pressure. Or, considering the content and lack of reasoning in these negative guest reviews, pressure from my inferiors. 8/19/17: The next update for Faded is planned to be released on August 23rd, the one year anniversary of its original posting. 8/23/17: Unfortunately, I'm only three thousand words into the chapter, so I don't think I'll have it finished by midnight today, which is a shame. I'll post it as soon as I'm done. Sorry. 5/1/18: It's been a while since I updated anything, really. I'm sorry about that, though I at least have a somewhat valid excuse this time — namely, my Senior Thesis. It was horrible, it took forever, and I now HATE philosophy class. It used to be my favorite class . . . Anyways, I should be able to get at least something out in the near future . . . maybe . . . My favorite -food is salmon -dessert is mint chocolate chip ice cream or chocolate lava cake -book is Ender's Game -movie is Guardians of the Galaxy -video game is Super Smash Brothers Melee -sport is tennis -extracurricular school activity is acting in school plays -form of exercise is rollerblading -time to go to sleep is 6 am -time to wake up is 4 pm -music changes every day, and is therefore pointless to write down -character in any book is Percy Jackson -class is English -fanfiction is A Protector's Pride -fanfiction author is Kenchi618 -color is blue -animal is the peregrine falcon -superhero is The Flash -pairing is currently up in the air OriksGaming’s Favorites: A community I created to organize all of my absolute favorite fics. You can check that out or look below on my profile to find the ones I've spent the time advertising more prominently. While not necessarily significantly 'better' than many of the fics in my larger favorites list, they're all definitely amazing fics, vetted by yours truly. Inactive fics that I'd love to see updated: - Nerve Damage(an absolutely amazing fsn fic with top notch writing, plot, characterization, suspense, action, humor, and a little bit of romance to top it off. One of the best written fics I've ever seen, and if it ever gets continued, I'll probably change that to the best. It's just all around amazing, and I do so hope that the author comes back to it at some point. This fic is so good and so well liked that absolutely crappy, poorly thought out pale shadows of this fic receive hundreds if not thousands of favorites just because the author says they were inspired by ND. On another note, the author always said in his ANs that he would starve without reviews, so maybe there just weren't enough to feed him from chapter 12 and he starved to death. It's a possibility.) - Written in Reverse(which used to be my favorite of all time until I realized that the author has pretty much no plans to continue it) - Sword of Origin: Protector of Zero(a well written fic with an interesting and mysterious plot, and though the romance is weird at times, I'd love to see it continued) - Champion of a Distant Dream(I'm really not a fan of the pairing, but the writing and plot is good enough that I enjoy it anyways) - The Will To Power(A fun SIOC fic in the Dxd universe. The last couple chapters weren't as great, but I'd still really like to read more) - A Demon Among Devils: A great fic, with an overpowered Minato Arisato, whose OPness actually tends to make the fic more interesting rather than less so, funnily enough. It's also another fic with amazing characterization, and one of the very, very few harem fics that I actually like. The only problem is that there's pretty much 0% chance of the author ever coming back to it. He has a habit of writing 150k word fics before moving on randomly one day and never looking back. - Dauntless: A true epic of a fic. Lelouch ends up being found by Clovis and gets thrust back into the royal family. It's such a captivating fic, with every bit drawing me in further and making me want to read more. It's not necessarily 'inactive,' but that's really the closest category I have for it at the moment. Same goes for 'Itachi, Is That A Baby?' right below this. - Itachi, Is That A Baby?: A hilarious crackfic where Petunia performs her first and last bit of accidental magic in wishing baby Harry, just dropped on her doorstep, to the Elemental Nations right in front of a young-ish Itachi Uchiha and Kisame Hoshigaki, upon which Itachi becomes a very, very young father and the aforementioned hilarity ensues and never stops. - More when I'm willing to scroll through my stupidly huge alerts list and post them here Fics I am actively following- as in, checking, at minimum, every three days for updates: - One Perfect Sunrise: A very underrated Rosario Vampire fanfiction- likely because the fandom's effectively dead. Despite its low number of favorites and follows, it's well written and I very much enjoyed the nine chapters and forty one thousand words written so far. It follows Tsukune and co's life years after the epilogue of the series, and the world building is very interesting. Definitely something I would suggest checking out if you've ever been interested in Rosario Vampire- or even if you haven't. Completed Fics that I love and reread every so often: - Okay, Full Disclosure?: A great crack fic which really just highlights everything wrong with Merlin BBC. It's hilarious and so, so true. Give it a read if you've ever watched Merlin BBC and been dissatisfied with almost everything in it(basically, if you've ever watched the show). A family show? Pull the other one. - A Protector’s Pride(Amazing Bleach fic and there's plenty of content if you've been running low on reading material lately) - Sage(Another incredibly long, fairly well written fic which I go back to from time to time. Contains a well done Rinnegan Naruto, one of only two or three in the entire fandom. The fic is great, but the author's taste in fanfiction is terrible.) - Now Die: a short fic, but very fun to read. It's by SpoonandJohn, the co-authors of 'Itachi, Is That A Baby?' which is a well known Naruto and Harry Potter crossover crack fic. Now Die is amazing in its well done take of a completely overpowered and sociopathic Hinata, something I never thought I'd see. It also pulls off an interesting overpowered Naruto in the background, though it has little relevance on the plot, outside of the significantly shorter second chapter, which is an Omake. - The Problem With Zuko: An amazing fanfiction, easily one of my top five favorites ever. As a whole(if you ignore the trillions of ZukoxKatara fics) TLA fics are so interesting, have so much potential, and this one realizes it all. Lu Ten survives, Iroh becomes Firelord and Zuko grows up with a mother. But Zuko's life is far from perfect and when his cousin returns with the captured Avatar and his friends, he has to make a choice: his family or the Avatar, his friends, and a nation full of innocent people. - Peace: A heartrending Naruto one shot. It just feels so possible, so real, that you can't help but feel devastated at the end, especially when you read Naruto's last thought. It's, just . . . words don't do it justice. Read it, please. - A Common Criminal Or Something: Another tearjerker. Jaune Arc doesn't manage to get into Beacon with his forged documents and is forced to take a job as muscle for Roman Torchwick. Everything spirals out of control from there. - He Who Fights Monsters: This fic is awe inspiring. Here's my personal synopsis- Tsukune gets accosted by Moka riding a bicycle. Sound familiar? Turns out, the same event happened in canon and it led to their friendship and every single other event in the entire anime and manga. Only . . . this time, he narrowly avoids the collision and she doesn't apologize, stop, or even remember Tsukune later that day in class. Rather than going through the school with the support and romantic attention of a vampire, he finds that he's all on his own, the lone human in a school full of monsters. He immediately begins doing everything in his limited power to survive, and due to various unfortunate situations, finds that he's rather good at it, to the extreme detriment of his enemies- and himself. As he learns to fend for himself and changes out of necessity, he finds that you don't have to be a monster to be monstrous. The pairing was a bit of a shock, but it grew on me- a lot. Everything in this fic is amazing; I love Tsukune's character, everyone else seems to act as expected- which is often not the case in fanfiction, where at least one character is usually a bit out of whack- and the author gives zero fucks about his readers' OTPs. I picked up this fic at 2:00 in the morning and spent about three hours reading it. I foresee myself reading it again and again in the near future. This is just like Campione, where I didn't think I'd find anything outside of the crossovers and ended up finding a real gem. This fic is more than worth the read. Dragonfly: Outside of Kenchi618's fics, this is the only SIOC fic I've ever liked enough to favorite. Unlike all others, the main character isn't striving for power, they're not looking to avert a future tragedy or even be best friends with the main character(s). She knows she's going to die by Itachi Uchiha's hand when she's fifteen, and she accepts it, deciding to simply make the most of her life before then and to let important events go their own way. It's a fun fic right up until the ending, which is incredibly tragic, if only because you knew it was coming the whole time and hoped against all hope that it wouldn't. At only about 61k words, it should be a fairly quick read. So do it. Read the fic. You've got nothing to lose. Original fics that I'm waiting for updates on with bated breath: - Mother of Learning: If this was an actual book, it would be my second favorite ever, just behind Ender's Game. It's an amazing time loop fiction with- get this- a plot! It's over on fiction press, updated about once a month(the author always plans for three weeks but consistently moves each update back an extra week, which is kinda annoying, but the fic itself is well worth it). My favorite fics on Archive of Our Own: - Swinging Pendulum by Cywscross: The best Bleach time travel fic out there, better than Hogyoku ex Machina, in my opinion, even as incomplete as it is. The characterizations are so well done and the author manages to cook up a great plot out of practically nothing. While I'm not really a fan of Cywscross as a person, I can't deny that they're an amazing writer- they've also got a ton of other great fics, though they rarely ever complete any(or get close). - Unsealed by esama: The slow reveal, the mystery, the derived satisfaction, the irony. Amazingly written and incredibly engaging, it's absolutely a must read for anyone who has gotten through at least Chamber of Secrets. The author has a ton of other awesome stuff, as well. This is just my favorite of theirs. - these little powerless bones by dirgewithoutmusic: Oh god, I'd never imagined a fic like this before I read it. Ever wondered how a squib might make it through Hogwarts without being discovered? Or, well, discovered by anyone who might send them home, at least. It's an absolutely intriguing concept, backed up by flawless writing. My absolute favorite author at the moment: Kenchi618 - This guy is an amazing author, and the word count of all his fics added together numbers in the millions. It's insane. My three favorite fics of his, and the ones that make him my absolute favorite author are Naruto: Great Clan Days, Extraordinary Times, and Less Than Zero in the order of amazing, awe inspiring, and out of this world. Seriously, check out his fics. They're insanely good and there's more than enough content to last even the fastest readers weeks. My favorite author(and the only one I know, really) on Spacebattles: Ryuugi - Another amazing author, and like Cywscross, he also has a propensity to leave most of his fics incomplete. As of now, he's completed three, I believe, out of a hundred plus that he's posted. The most notable one is The Games We Play, one of the best RWBY fics I've ever read. Just, the character development is amazing; the power levels get insane later on and the plot gets kinda weird, but the fic is engaging throughout the entirety of its million plus words. It's now complete and there should be a sequel . . . anywhere from one to fifteen years from now. The other fic of his that I really love is Prytaneum. As of now, it's incomplete, but it is, hands down, the best Danmachi fic I've ever read, crossover or otherwise. It's a cross with Percy Jackson, where he- Percy- gets sent into [Spoiler] the far, far future when Hestia sacrifices herself to protect him from Kronos, who's just ascended to full power and is curb stomping all of the gods at once. He ends up meeting the Danmachi goddess Hestia, and, out of a sense of gratitude and genuine affection- not the romantic kind- towards Hestia, joins her familia as the first member. Bell is nonexistent, which, in my opinion, just makes the story better and smoother, despite how much I actually like canon Bell. The plot is amazing, loosely following Danmachi's, though a lot of the minutiae and minor events are significantly different. It's a great fic and superior to TGWP, in my opinion, though it doesn't seem like it'll ever be updated again. Still, at at least a couple hundred thousand words, it's still a great fic and a worthwhile read. Warning: Fanfic authors should not read this if they're not prepared to be greatly offended. Some things I hate in fanfiction for obvious or not so obvious reasons and in no particular order. - When an author writes something like, "Sorry, Im bad at writting summary. I promise its better inside," in the summary. - When an author changes the main protagonist's gender with no reason as to why. I've read maybe one or two good stories, at most, that are like that. All others are total crap. Someone called me a hypocrite for this, I think, although they were a guest and it seemed purposely very vague . . . so I'd just like to point to the fact that I said main protagonist. I don't really care about the genders of non absolute main characters. This is one of those not so obvious reasons- I'm not even sure why I think this way. - When the story basically consists of a protagonist gathering a harem for no other reason than the author wanting to write a harem story. It always ends up being terribly written, having no plot . . . and the romance sucks ass. So basically, the entire story's shit. Other than fictions written about anime that include a harem(Sekirei, Campione, and High School DxD, for example), I'll never condone a harem story. Seriously, never read anything from megamatt09- he's been on the site for about eight years now and his writing hasn't improved at all in that time- if anything, it's gotten worse. But he's actually pretty popular, because almost every other story he writes involves Harry Potter, Kara Zor-El, and a harem. - On that note, I also hate authors who forgo improving their writing entirely. Standards, people. - When a story is porn without plot and over five thousand words. I can accept porn without plot in a lemon one shot. - When an author doesn't know how to take constructive criticism. See the above section. - When an author frequently changes tenses throughout the fiction for no reason. - When an author deliberately rewrites canon of a book/show/movie/etc. in a major or defining way simply because they have a problem with a very minor mechanic in said book/show/movie/etc. - Soul bond stories in general(with very few small exceptions, generally in cases where the soul bond is a plot point and has very little or nothing at all to do, directly, with the soul bonded characters' relationship) - Stories in which an author initiates a soul bond but refuses to admit to the fact that they used a soul bond for the basis of their story, instead calling it anything else they can think of. - Rewrites of canon. As in, scenes that basically just recap canon with no changes- unless it's a defining moment for your character, at the very start of the fiction; even then, it's just stupid and pointless to write the scene without adding in your character's thoughts. - The 'Draco in Leather Pants' trope(look it up on TV Tropes). - When a story toes the line between good and bad and I feel the need to read it just in case it improves(99% of the time, it doesn't). - When the protagonist is portrayed as omniscient or omnipotent. Unless that's the endgame- the character becoming a god or something at the end, I mean. Which can be a perfectly fine ending to a story that's focused on a character trying to gather power for some reason or another. But the character being omniscient during the actual fiction is boring to read and a major turn-off. - When characters act majorly out of character with no explanation why- or potentially worse, a weak justification. - When authors go into detail about a character(usually female)'s body for absolutely no reason. - When an author goes into excessive detail about characters' thoughts in a third person story(And I mostly mean stupid or pointless thoughts, generally along the line of the one I just described above). It's fine if the narrator goes off in tangents, assuming that the narrator is talking in first person and it's in character for them. - Self insert stories that are only intended to be an extended (Name your sexy/bishie character here)xReader. - When a character is majorly overpowered, and the author's reasoning is that they're not a perfect character because their flaw is loyalty. I ask you, how is loyalty a flaw when you can curb stomp anyone after your loved ones with ease- when you don't even have to leave bed to do so because you're effectively omnipotent? Well? How exactly does that balance out the enormous, plot killing power that your character, probably the protagonist, possesses? - Taiga Fujimura in almost any scene or situation. She generally heralds a complete pause in the plot and a huge amount of filler. I'm also not big on literally any facet of her personality. She's probably my least favorite character in, well, anything. - When an author repeatedly misspells a particular word. Many authors seem to really love barley(barely) and have decided that it has become an adverb("His friend barley reached the end of the track, huffing and puffing." Gotta love that Barley, though it would be nice if authors could capitalize his name). I hate to tell you, everyone, but charka(chakra) is not a thing. Preform(perform) is also not a word. The closest I could think of is if you were trying to say pre-form, as in before something or someone's current state; however, that would be grammatically incorrect and/or needlessly convoluted in pretty much every situation. - When an author has evidently not passed second grade and still believes that to, too, and two or your and you're are the same exact words, with the same spelling, yet different meanings. - When an author tries to look cool by writing magic as magicke, magik, or magick over and over and over again. The first and second aren't words and the last has an entirely different meaning. And, hint hint, it doesn't make you look cool. It makes you look stupid. - When an author nerfs a character simply to make them fit in with whatever crossover universe they're in. Most commonly seen in Naruto crossovers. Choose your crossovers wisely; don't cherrypick powers and power levels. - When idiots criticize me in a very vague fashion. I've been called a hypocrite and inconsistent recently, both by guest reviewers. Honestly, if you're not willing to be specific or at least use your actual account so I can figure out what the hell you're talking about, I don't give a flying fuck what you think. In case you aren't getting it, I'm pissed right now. - When people say or write 'chappie,' instead of chapter. It sounds weird, does the exact opposite of rolling off the tongue for me, and reminds me of Rukia's bunny obsession, which, while not intrinsically a bad thing, generally takes my mind off the story in general and it usually takes me a couple minutes to re-immerse myself. - When an author is writing because they enjoy the accolades, rather than the writing itself. I've come across a couple fanfics with decent writing- I would like them except for the fact that the authors' grasp of various canons were total crap. A number of them even wrote in their ANs that they didn't even know the original work, hadn't done any research on the source material, and were basically just stealing ideas from really crappy fanfiction- and that they would continue with, in one author's words, a more accurate chapter if the first one got good reviews. I just . . . some people . . . - When a non-adult tries to write a harem. If you don't have even a smidgen of experience with real romance, or even sex, don't write a stinkin' harem. It makes what otherwise might be an enjoyable read total crap. - When an author says their main character is just average looking- because writing a Mary Sue is a huge taboo- but has some kind of aura that makes the opposite sex love him(usually)/her. - When a protagonist engages in rape and/or mind control. I can't stand plot based fics based on them, nor can I stand romance fics or lemons based on them, or even involving one or the other. They're just moralistically incompatible with me, no matter how humorous or justified it's meant to be. - When people criticize an author for writing Daphne Greengrass out of character. Seriously, morons? She's a bafflingly popular OC. You're an idiot if you think the possibilities for her portrayal are confined to a set archetype. - When an author believes that six year olds can't pronounce people's full names. The fanfic 'Team Tensai' has decent writing and a bearable plot, but the characterization is all out of whack and I just cringe when I see 'To, 'Ke, 'Ra, or, even worse, 'Ra-chan. I mean, seriously? Just use her name. It's only one more syllable than . . . Ra-chan(shudder) and doesn't sound awkward as hell. - When the author chooses a blatantly incorrect genre. This is notable in Team Tensai, where 95% of the fic is hurt/comfort but the fic is labeled as friendship/drama. I mean, maybe the friendship deserves to be there, but the drama is an entirely inadequate summation. Though, I can sort of understand the drama label, because a lot of the fic is focused on Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura's totally over the top and often downright bad acting. Hence, 'drama.' It's still pretty much just a hurt/comfort fic. - Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy slash. I don't care about slash in general. People can write it, I won't read it, and we're all happy. Unfortunately, I've become aware over the years of how shitty practically all HPDM fanfiction is, as well as how ludicrously overhyped it tends to be. It ends up clogging up AO3, and to a lesser extent, ff.net with utterly worthless pieces of crap. Also, the pairing is just plain stupid, untenable if you want to stay true to canon characterization in any way, shape or form, and often the logic behind it makes less sense than a simple goldfish becoming the next green lantern. I posted a fic about this, which was probably a really dumb idea(because I'll get mauled by all the HPDM shippers) but idgaf at this point. - Really really weird/obscure pairings that don't involve the main character. For instance, I've come across like four MadaraxSakura fics in the past week(by the same author; thank God this isn't actually becoming a thing). I just don't understand why anyone would ever pair up Madara and Sakura. How exactly are they connected besides [megalomaniac attempting to take over the world with one of the stupidest plans ever] and [one of the two members of team 7 too weak to fight him]. It makes about as much sense as pairing, say, Karin Kurosaki and Itachi Uchiha, or maybe Shion and Ikkaku Madarame. I can understand why someone would pair Madara with Naruto and I can even understand why someone might pair Sasuke up with Madara, even if the latter idea creeps me out. But . . . Madara and Sakura . . . Seriously? I also don't really see how they could be amiable with each other, much less fall in love, unless you completely twist around their situation and respective characters so as to be completely unrecognizable. It's just a stupid pairing, really . . . Okay, I'm done ranting. For now. - When kids fourteen and under have sex. I don't care if it's anime, manga, a movie, a reality tv show, a book, or anything. 15 is the age I would consider the absolute cutoff, even in worlds that really don't seem to have concrete laws against minors having sex, such as the world of Naruto. It's one of the many reasons why harem fics are so completely idiotic: teenage and adult women falling for an eleven/twelve year old. It just doesn't make sense and it's creepy as fuck. - When a character has two last names separated by a hyphen. It's just painful to read 'Potter-Black' or 'Kurosaki-Shiba.' Ichigo's last name is Kurosaki. Finding out his Dad is/was a Shiba doesn't mean his name has legally changed. Harry inheriting a vault and/or various properties from Sirius doesn't obligate him to change his name; Sirius hates his family. Why would he make that the clause of some inheritance contract? Why would Harry take the name? Political power? Don't make me laugh. The Blacks were well known for being a dark family, so he couldn't really use the name to push any moral agendas. Besides that, no one else in the wizarding world has multiple last names. Sure, Dumbledore has a f*ton of middle names, but no one has a last name reading in the format of name1-name2. People who hyphenate their last names in real life generally encounter problems when they want to marry, and while this is 'solved' in crappy harem fanfics where one wife takes one name and the other takes another, so on and so forth, it always(ALWAYS) seems incredibly stupid. I generally abandon fics the moment I see the aforementioned hyphenated names. Don't do it. - When authors make up middle names. For example, Percy Jackson doesn't have a middle name. Yet tons of people write him with the full name 'Perseus Achilles Jackson.' They seem to think it looks/sounds cool. It really doesn't. It's a major turn off because it's a pretty accurate indicator that the author doesn't care one whit about canon and will write anything they think is 'cool,' even if it's for absolutely no reason and makes the story worse. It just looks really unpolished. - When an author writes their summary with the first letter of each word in caps. It Doesn't Make Me Want To Read The Fic. It Makes Me Assume That Their Grasp Of CaPiTaLiZaTiOn In The Actual Fic Will Be Just As Crappy As It Was In Their Stupid Summary. - When an author talks about themselves in the summary of their fic. Ex: "I just had a great idea for a story I just had to write. So here it is . . . Our protagonist is thrust into a life he was never expecting. Watch him navigate the twists and turns of his mysterious new school. Please read my idea; I hope you like it! ;)" - On that note, I hate it when an author tells someone to 'watch' their writing. My rather sardonic reaction generally plays out something like this: 'Okay, I'm watching . . . Nothing's moving . . . The words are just sorta there . . . This is the most boring movie I've ever seen; I think I'll go find something good to read instead.' You don't 'watch' a book. Anyone who asks someone to watch their fic instantly loses a ton of respect in my eyes, and I generally don't bother to read their undoubtedly shoddy fic. - When people write like they're texting. Ex: "He shrugged his hoodie off, cuz it was getting 2 warm in the classroom. All the girls sighed, cuz he was 2 cute. He didn't notice, since he was 2 busy thinking about how he was thru with the heat & he wanted 2 find a way to end it. A thought popped 2 his head, a rlly good 1." Sorry about the inaccurate representation . . . I know authors who employ this style of writing generally have exponentially more errors, but I was trying to highlight a particular issue. I didn't mean to make the style seem better than it always is. - When an author lashes out due to valid criticism. Or, when they demand more fleshed out criticism based on a review someone wrote, and then proceed to get pissed and call the reviewer's opinion worthless after the reviewer politely elaborates. - When an author doesn't use contractions and the fic reads more like a middle school essay than a book. - When someone reposts another author's work, even when the author has long since removed their fic from the site. It was most likely removed for a reason, and you're being extremely rude and not respecting the original author's wishes by reposting it on this site. If you want to do so, do it on reddit, dlp, or some other site. - When a reader decides that an author owes them something, that having the author post the story and keep it up is a right, not a privilege. Authors who write on this site choose to post what they write; they're not obligated to in any way. Assuming that they are completely beholden to you, the reader, is simply being an ass, not "fighting for your rights," which are completely nonexistent in this situation. - When someone has Sirius call Harry "Pronglet." In canon, it's "Prongslet," because, you know, James Potter's animagus form was named Prongs. With an S. I have never seen an author get this right, despite how strange Pronglet sounds in my head even after years of reading it over and over. What a sad, sad world we live in. - Loads of other things that I can't think of right now, but will add in the future. MY CURRENTLY ACTIVE STORIES- aka, those ones that will most likely be updated in the near future. Faded- Percy Jackson goes back in time, desperate to prevent the Greek Apocalypse, also known as Gaea's awakening. He has no compunctions with crushing as many butterflies as necessary to save everyone, whether they be mortals, demigods, or even gods. A truly extraordinary sequence of events may just lead him to forge an extremely unlikely connection in the process. Evidently, time travel. The pairing is Percy and Artemis, though that won't happen for quite a while and isn't the focus of the fiction. Romance is not one of its categories. |
