Author has written 1 story for Harry Potter. Greetings! Thanks for stopping by to read my profile! Here's a bit of info about me: Firstly, if you've read my stories, I appreciate you making the time to do so. And if you've left a review, that's even better. Feedback is one step closer to being a better writer :) My idea about Fan Fiction is that in order to write a good story it needs to have 3 key elements:
Also, I believe a short story can still have the ability to be a great one. Quality over quantity. Of course, you can still have an excellent story that is extremely long and over the word limit (Harry Potter, right?) Lastly, a clean story is also a good story :) I know there are a lot of stories of a very adult nature on Fan Fiction and personally I find it really uncomfortable when I'm reading books and movies that were originally written for a young audience and suddenly they have been upgraded to a R rated book. (From what I've read so far the M rating seems to be quite tame in some stories and extremely adult in others) Some will disagree and say, isn't that the whole point of Fan Fiction? So I can custom build my story and world because all these things didn't happen that should have? Yes, but I still maintain the opinion that it's inappropriate and on some level, probably disrespectful to the author. One article about Fan Fiction said something along the lines of "it's like playing with someone else's toys." I wouldn't want someone else coming along, taking my Lego house apart and demolishing it, even if they think it's ten times better than what I originally made. I don't know if anyone else shares that opinion but I respect that as individuals we have the freedom to agree or not. A little bit about me in relation to Fan Fiction... I stumbled across FanFiction late 2014. Despite all my Internet travels, I had never read any Fan Fiction until last year. I don't exactly remember when or how I ended up here, but Dramione was the first thing I read, which was very well written. From there, I've read various stories, mostly Harry Potter stories, although I have read other stories in relation to the Hunger Games, Maze Runner and a few movies. In relation to Harry Potter, I read the series as a child and teenager and I loved it, however I was certainly not a diehard fan. Strangely though, my interest in Harry Potter only really increased during the last few years after all the books and movies had been finished. I think this was because I was now older and able to properly process the storylines and have greater appreciation for the characters and their own journeys throughout the series. Also since the very first HP book was published, I have been the only one out of all my friends that seem to actually have a strong interest in Harry Potter. So I kind of keep it to myself because some of them have read it but don't really share the same enthusiasm for it as I do. But then I discovered Fan Fiction and found an outlet so hooray! I used to write stories when I was younger but they were all my own plots and characters. Now with less time on my hands, I admit that Fan Fiction makes it easier to write since the entire universe has been established and characters have their lovable (and not so loveable) traits. One website described Fan Fiction like playing in a doll house or sand box with all the toys there. I agree! On the other hand, Fan Fiction is a challenge when you want to write a good story that does the original characters or universe justice but still be fun or interesting. That's what I would like to do. And I'm still learning the Fan Fiction lingo. Things like EWE and AU have had to be Googled more than once. |
