At house in several languages, he retains a PhD in Medical Sciences/Molecular Toxicology from the Karolinska Institute in Sweden, wherever he wrote his thesis on "Mechanisms of bronchoactive effects of oxidants and thiol-containing compounds a study in the isolated perfused and ventilated guinea pig lung".
