Having been a member for quite a while now, I figured it might be time to offer at least some basic info.

A few years ago, a classmate took it upon herself to introduce me to fanfiction. Not a writer herself, she was still very passionate about the art form. I was extremely skeptical, but she sent me a story (in the Supernatural fandom) and insisted I give it a try. So I did. And I didn't like it. At all. Instead, this singular experience reinforced my already existing conviction that "fanfiction" was simply stories created by amateur writers who did nothing but butcher perfectly good characters, shows, and concepts. What can I say, I was young(er), narrow-minded, and judgmental.

Then BBC's The Musketeers came along, with their "10 episodes and a 10 month hiatus" deal, and I was hooked, "slightly" obsessed, and desperate. So I put aside all my previous dislike for fanfiction, dove in... and I drowned. Now, almost two years later, the notion that there was ever a time when fanfiction didn't equal love, safety, and community, is ludicrous. I can honestly confess that it has become one of very few sources of genuine happiness in my life. Needless to say, I have never been so glad to be wrong about something.

So thank you, to every fellow writer, reader, and fan, for your kindness and your support, and for sharing your amazing creations. They are the brightest lights in a sometimes very dim existence.
