Operating the equipment that performs the dialysis is what you will be responsible for when you are a dialysis tech. Since the kidneys in a patient with CRF (chronic renal failure) don't adequately filter waste products like they used to, the blood is pulled from the body during dialysis and filtered in the machine. After it is cleansed it is routed back into the patients blood circulation. Each dialysis session normally requires about three to four hours, and must be done on an every other day schedule.
