AU - Lucien receives a letter from his mother asking him to come home because his father is dying. He returns to Ballarat to find a housekeeper being friendly with Genevieve Blake. Lucien must cope with losing his father, adjusting to the new life he's fallen into, and endeavor to make his mother proud. And what of this Jean Beazely, who is so unimpressed by his charms?

Combining the ends of s1 and s2. Jack has just left Ballarat, leaving Jean alone. Lucien has just gotten word that his daughter is alive in China. He knows he needs to say goodbye, and she realizes she doesn't want to let him go.
