It was always something small. A hand finding his when they were out together at first under tables to lacing hers together with his when they walked side by side. That reassuring contact that told him she was comfortable. He noticed every subtle shift like the circling of her fingers tracing words and patterns on his forearms and legs, silently beaming. He noticed everything.

He avoided looking at her and when he did if she so much as looked back his head snapped round so fast like he was Regan from the bloody exorcist. She even asked Chloe as she got more and more fed up. 'He doesn't even like me,' she confessed after her second pint. 'He's like that with everybody.' 'Right,' sure he was.

'Who's Rae? She tilted her head to the side to read the handwriting on one of the tapes she'd taken out of the box before. 'She's, er' Finn reached across to take it from her, took it in his hands and gave it a rueful glance before getting up to put it back on the pile beside his records. He couldn't bring himself to say that they'd gone out. It was more than that.

'He slid the twenty pence piece towards her over the top of the machine when they reached it but then reconsidered, taking it back and slotting it into the machine himself. 'I'd put The Roses on but I hear you're more into Backstreet whatever these days,' Finns finger danced over one of their tracks and he turned to face her with a teasing smirk.' 'Don't even start.'

'That's my decision,' her voice was brittle and he could see her eyes reddening, 'I'm sorry.' Before he could even let out the breath he'd been holding she had already turned to go. He lifted his arms out in confusion, waiting for her to explain what was going on, that it wasn't actually happening. Rae. Rae don't. Please don't.

This is a ficlet about Rae and Finn. A friend on Tumblr sent me a prompt with the words "hold my hand" and here it is. After Rae's baby sister ends up in the hospital, Finn comes to support her.

With her thoughts running wild, and constantly running to her diary, will her thoughts get the better of her and Finn's relationship? Will she make it to the other side?

Rae and Finn get their truths out, but how will they handle what they have to say to another? (This is my first attempt at writing fan-fiction.) I just love this show so much and need to satisfy my craving somehow so I thought I'd take a chance a writing a bit.
