Author has written 4 stories for Harry Potter, and Gundam Seed.
Hoy!

Can't be giving out my whole life story away here, eh? All I can say is that writing isn't my strongest point... because English is my third language (no joke!)

I like, amongst other things, Harry Potter (but think the last book was horrible)... and what else... oh yeah, Final Fantasy games are always good. What I value above all is a good romance mixed with an original action adventure.

And here is the disclaimer in case I forget to put it in my fics:

Disclaimer:
Harry Potter and all characters from the Harry Potter books are the intellectual property of J. K. Rowling. These stories are for pure non-profit personal enjoyment. Only the story plots and original characters are mine.

Harry Potter Fanfics:

Now here begins my great rant about HP fics. I've been reading HP fics for quite a while now, and have read a lot of them. I noticed a few things.

1. The old fics seem far better written than newer ones

This is not due to the 'new fic similar to old fic, so you must like the old one better' effect. In fact, I stumbled upon many older fics much later than the newer ones (thus reading the newer ones first), and I still feel that old fics are better written.

2. angsty/suicidal/abused Harry + on/off angst switch + super duper time dilation training = super randomly angsty Harry defeat squib-ish Voldemort

A lot of the new fics I read seem to revolve and the theme of Harry being either depressed, suicidal, abused, or self-abusing, and then, suddenly, after a few paragraphs of 'pep-talk' from his friends/lover/total stranger he never met, Harry would instantly feel all normal. He'd then go on training himself in the space of one week to become 1000000x more powerful than Dumbledore, due to some plot device that the author vaguely explains in a few lines. Harry would then become a smart-ass super confident womanizer, only to have his angsty feelings return and go away like the flip of a switch, when the plot is almost dead with Harry having no challenges to overcome whatsoever. His angsty episodes are, usually and coincidently, contained within a single chapter, and Harry returns to his super Out-of-Character but confident womanizing self the next. In the end, Harry defeats Voldemort, who by this point is as powerless as a squib against Harry, and acts like an idiotic maniac instead of a cunning dark lord that everyone fears.

As you can probably tell, I don't like those kind of stories too much. I grew tired of the whole angsty-Harry theme that is usually horribly written into the story, as if the author felt like he/she had to write it in but is totally pointless to the plot. So you get Harry angsting for 3 whole chapters, and then, suddenly, he's fine. And no mention of his internal turmoil surfaces at all after that, except at random and in isolated chunks. In my humble opinion, if you want to write angst in your story, then make sure there is a good reason for it, and keep it consistent!

Also, the whole super Harry idea just appalls me. I mean, Voldemort and Dumbledore are supposed to be the most powerful wizards in the world. So suddenly, this wandering warrior/hermit/cool ninja/member of a secret but super duper powerful society/friend of Dumbledore who is more powerful than god (or a combination of all of that) shows up at Harry's doorstep, offers to train him in one week. Ok, so basically, the guy can kill Voldemort by doing a bit more than breathing. Now instead of doing that, the guy decide to train Harry and let people die in the meantime. And this is usually a guy with a deep sense of honor, and chivalry, and all around genuine good guy feel... You have to wonder why he doesn't make an effort to kill the dark lord himself.

Alternatively, Harry trains himself in one week or so to become a guy who, through great and detailed descriptions by the author, is obviously far far more powerful than Dumbledore and Voldemort combined. The sudden sponge like learning power of Harry not withstanding, why will Harry not go kill Voldemort straight away then? Since he does next to no training after the initial 3 chapters, where the author had him become ultra powerful, and thus already have to power to blast Voldemort's butt to Mars?

And that's just the tip of the iceberg! Don't even get me started on the OOC behavior of Harry or his sudden grow spurt/handsom transformation.

Well... anyway I will rant more later :)

Now more rant about Harry Potter and its romantic relationships. I personally think that Rowling is going with R/Hr, since there were so many clues in the fifth book, and it is even more obvious in the latest movie. However, I am not a R/Hr fan at all, just because I don't see any reason for them to love each other (yeah yeah, love is blind, blablabla).

Personally, I like Harry/Cho relationship way more. But Rowling had to destroy it in her fifth book. Now she's made out Cho to be some kind of crybaby with the brain the size of a peanut. Can't say I like that at all. And the worst part is that she did it in the most clumsy way possible: no justification, no depth, no plot development, etc. I can go on and on about how I hate what she did with Cho, but since it's her stuff, she must have a reason... All her other books seemed to have had good reasons to mention irrelevant things, in retrospect.

Anyway, HPCC is what I like best. But H/Hr isn't all that bad... and way more logical than R/Hr. Although I think Rowling will probably kill Harry off in the last book and thus paired Hermione with Ron... ah well... just hope it will end in a worthwhile way.

Any constructive criticism are very welcome, even flames, so long as you have something useful to say.
